We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Waffle Quality and Texture: We checked for that ideal balance of a crispy exterior and a fluffy center. The batter's freshness and its ability to hold heavy syrups played a massive role in our scoring.

Menu Variety and Options: A great breakfast spot needs both sweet creations and hearty savory combinations. We looked for menus offering everything from plain classics to robust chicken pairings.

Ambiance and Dining Experience: The atmosphere of a cafe drastically changes how you enjoy your morning coffee. We evaluated the overall vibe and service speed during busy brunch hours.

Overall Value and Accessibility: Paying premium prices requires generous portion sizes and consistent food quality. We also considered the convenience of operating hours and the accessibility of locations for families.

Waking up to the smell of toasted batter and melting butter is one of my favorite morning rituals. If you’re like me, finding the right crunch-to-fluff ratio can completely turn your weekend around!

If you’re craving a sweet dessert plate piled high with whipped cream, or maybe a savory chicken pairing, our city has some incredible morning spots!

I went on a mission to track down the best waffles in San Antonio, so you know exactly where to satisfy that craving. Get your forks ready because these local joints serve up golden, crispy perfection that will make you rethink your usual breakfast run!

Sometimes you just want to build your own breakfast plate exactly how you picture it in your head. Well, you can create made-to-order masterpieces in Maple Waffles’ highly customizable setup right inside Plaza Treviño.

I recently stopped by to grab a quick bite and was blown away by their savory Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato (BLT) waffle sandwich. They also whip up sweet caramel frappes to wash down those hearty bites.

If you prefer something other than traditional batter, they also serve up fantastic savory crepes.

I also love that the base pricing here is incredibly accessible, making it a regular stop for my weekday mornings.

You do have to plan your visits carefully, though, as they close quite early in the evening. Their Monday schedule is also surprisingly short, wrapping up service right after the lunch rush.

Pros

  • Highly customizable orders
  • Accessible base pricing
  • Savory breakfast options
  • Alternative French crepes

Cons

  • Very short Monday hours
  • Closes early in the evening

Waffles are on point

Waffles are on point. Create your own is nice to be able to customize your order.  Location is small perfect for what they are doing here. Wasn’t busy. I would come back.  Added the side of eggs bacon and ham. Left full filled.  Good job.

So happy

These waffles are fluffy, huge and taking a bite of our fresh strawberries and cream & custom waffle (peanut butter, cream cheese and banana) made my husband and I not want to eat any other waffle again. The amount of love this food was made with brought us back to our childhood.

Very affordable and we enjoyed seeing the board and card games available to play, so happy we decided to visit!

Tracking down a fantastic food truck always feels like a tiny victory, and that’s what I felt when I found The Hungry Waffle.

This proudly family-operated mobile kitchen brings authentic Liège-style treats straight to your neighborhood, using a rich dough packed with pearl sugar. The kitchen makes everything from scratch!

Their decadent, deep-fried Belgian variation is something I’m absolutely dying to try next time. If you’re craving a punchy flavor profile, you’ll love their crispy chicken topped with sweet honey hot sauce.

Customizing your plate is encouraged here, but expect extra fees if you swap standard sides for onion rings. Also, you might need a backup beverage plan, since specialty drinks often show as out of stock online.

Pros

  • Authentic Liege dough
  • Unique deep-fried options
  • Spicy chicken pairings
  • Total scratch kitchen

Cons

  • Extra fees for premium sides
  • Frequent beverage stock issues

Address: 10333 Huebner Rd

Hours: Daily, 7:00 AM–2:00 PM

Walking into a breakfast joint that has been serving the community for over two decades sets a high expectation. The Magnolia Pancake Haus is a family-owned staple that delivers on that promise.

I absolutely love their incredibly thick, traditional batter that creates deep pockets for pooling syrup and melting butter.

Those with a serious sweet tooth should dive into their lemon poppyseed creation covered in cream cheese icing, or grab a massive combination platter to stay full until dinner.

For those dealing with allergies, review the menu carefully. Several popular dishes contain nuts. Additionally, swapping your standard breakfast potatoes for a house salad will add a noticeable upcharge to your final bill.

If you’re currently hunting for a dependable wedding caterer to host your next big morning celebration, you’ll be glad to know that they also manage a dedicated private venue.

Pros

  • Thick traditional batter
  • Decadent fruit pairings
  • Savory bacon integration
  • Substantial meal combos

Cons

  • Extra charges for side swaps
  • High risk of nut allergens

So flavorful

Magnolia is a great option for breakfast or brunch, every single time. All their items are so flavorful. The pancakes, the waffles, hashbrowns, breakfast meats, literally everything! The Texas waffle is such a great sweet treat with pecans made in the crispy waffle and peach compote with fresh cream. The corned beef hash is an amazing savory option. You can’t go wrong with ordering anything here.

A definite must-go

This haus offers a good hearty American breakfast of omelettes, French toast, pancakes, waffles, and much more.

The meals were were very good. The pancakes were tasted delicious as well with the waffles and a side of hash browns. The syrup was warm, not so sweet, but just right! Expect the atmosphere to be chattyand at times rambuctious, but you well mostly get that from most family restaurants. 😉

A definite must go, if you just apply for the time!

4. The Guenther House

Address: 205 East Guenther Street

Contact: (210) 227-1061 | [email protected]

Hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM

Eating your morning meal inside a historic museum property adds a touch of elegance to any weekend routine. The Guenther House allows guests to tour the beautiful grounds while sipping their custom-roasted morning coffee blend.

I recently visited the property and fell in love with their feather-light batter, which provides the absolute perfect crunch.

You can even visit their in-house retail shop to grab professional-grade dry goods and recreate that texture in your own kitchen. Just remember that the waffle blend can’t be swapped with their cake mix under any circumstances if you want the right consistency.

You also need to arrive fairly early to dine in, as the entire establishment completely shuts down right after lunchtime.

Pros

  • Light and airy texture
  • On-site retail shop
  • Custom roasted coffee
  • Fresh daily pastries

Cons

  • Very early closing times

This place never disappoints

The Guenther House is a true San Antonio staple and an absolute must-visit for brunch. Rich in history and known for its incredible food, the entire experience feels genuinely unique and special. It’s perfect for a relaxed weekend brunch with the family or a cozy outing with your significant other—especially if you’re craving their delicious biscuits, waffles, or pancakes. This place never disappoints, and I absolutely love it.

The kitchen never disappoints

The Guenther House is absolutely worth the wait, no reservations, but the food more than makes up for it. Their breakfast and brunch are consistently fantastic, with baked goods that truly shine. The cinnamon rolls, waffles, sausage, bacon, everything is delicious. While the service can be hit or miss, the kitchen never disappoints. A must-visit spot for a classic and comforting San Antonio breakfast experience.

5. Sugar Factory

Website: sanantonio.sugarfactory.com

Address: 849 E Commerce St., unit 109

Contact: (726) 204-2020

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 12:00 PM–11:00 PM | Friday, 11:00 AM–12:00 AM | Saturday, 10:00 AM–12:00 AM | Sunday, 10:00 AM–11:00 PM

A standard morning plate simply won’t cut it when you need a fully immersive dining spectacle. Thankfully, Sugar Factory is a vibrant brasserie that focuses on extravagant menu concepts.

If you normally browse local candy stores to cure a sugar craving, their double-stack creations loaded with ice cream and gummy cherries will blow your mind.

Diners wanting a hearty lunch can tackle their massive breakfast burger piled high with melted cheddar, or snag the buttermilk fried chicken tossed in hot honey sauce.

Modifying these heavy entrees gets expensive quickly, though, as adding a simple fried egg costs quite a bit extra. Swapping out your standard fries for onion rings will also trigger a noticeable premium charge on your final ticket.

Overall, it’s no wonder that this place is a wildly popular destination for social media lovers.

Pros

  • Immersive dining atmosphere
  • Massive dessert creations
  • Hot honey chicken pairings

Cons

  • Expensive egg add-ons
  • High premium side charges
