We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Flavor and Texture Balance: A satisfying crunch is non-negotiable for this specific culinary style. We evaluated the breading technique to ensure the meat remained juicy while the exterior stayed flawlessly crisp.

Sauce Complexity: Standard hot sauces simply do not cut it when exploring authentic Asian flavors. We prioritized menus that offer a deep, varied selection of glazes, such as soy garlic or sweet cinnamon.

Menu Versatility: The supporting dishes are just as important as the main protein. We looked for establishments providing traditional sides like spicy rice cakes or house-made kimchi.

Value for Money: Dining out should feel rewarding rather than financially straining. We compared portion sizes to price tags to ensure you get a fair deal for your investment.

Address: 1015 Rittiman Rd, Suite 104

Contact: 210-290-8425

Hours:

  • Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Friday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Stepping into a chain restaurant usually comes with tempered expectations, but Bb.q Chicken shatters the standard mold entirely with an exceptionally crisp shell that feels shockingly light.

I experienced that crunch firsthand when I decided to test the waters myself. When I dropped by last weekend for a late lunch, I was completely hooked on their soy-garlic wings.

Notably, their recipes originate from a dedicated culinary research facility in South Korea, ensuring precise sauce ratios and consistent textures.

Getting that perfect, science-backed crunch does require a little bit of patience, though. The service pace is slower here because they cook each batch fresh to order rather than keeping portions warm under a heat lamp.

Pros

  • Extra-crispy olive oil frying
  • Massive flavor diversity
  • Authentic street food sides
  • Cooked-to-order freshness

Cons

  • Longer preparation times
  • Premium pricing for ingredients

You can tell this is gonna become a popular Korean bbq chicken spot! The boneless chicken was spot on! All flavors were immaculate especially the special sauce. I got rose tteboki with cheese and it was amazing! The chicken was perfectly crisp with juicy chicken! GINORMOUS Pieces too!

Finding a spot that balances comfort-food cravings with an energetic social atmosphere can be tricky, but Kogi Korean Grill solves the puzzle with a clever fusion concept.

That buzzing atmosphere hits you as soon as you walk through the doors. Since this is a fully equipped sports bar, you’ll be greeted by multiple screens and a robust drink selection.

Beyond those classic bar staples is a menu that completely flips the script. A major highlight is their inventive bulgogi burger, featuring a hefty marinated beef patty that provides a savory detour from standard fried fare.

Since all food items are made to order, don’t come starving. Their policy mandates a minimum 25-minute wait for all freshly prepared kitchen items.

Good Price And Good Food
Not bad. I had Korean Kim Chi fried rice & egg on top. I really liked it. Could have been more spicy, I guess I could have asked for more spice. My wife had the spicy Korean soup and my son had kids menu—chicken.  Good price and good food.

Food Was Delicious
First time visiting here, August 2020. Sydney was an awesome waitress, very attentive. The food was delicious, I’d recommend the fried rice with kimchi and chicken. Will definitely visit again whenever in the area (I live in Houston).

3. The Golden Goose

Website: http://www.ggsatx.com/

Address: 100 N Santa Rosa St #140

Contact: 726-206-1627

Hours:

  • Sunday – Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Friday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Downtown dining often forces a compromise between quality and speed. The Golden Goose actually shines because it refuses to cut corners.

I tried their chicken rice bowl on a quick lunch break recently, and the vibrant crunch combined with pickled chiles completely woke up my palate. That massive punch of flavor starts with the best ingredients.

They also use premium ingredients throughout, leaning heavily on organic poultry and house-baked milk bread for their sandwich variations.

You should note, however, that while the culinary foundation is stellar, the presentation format for certain items is unconventional.

They prefer a semi-deconstructed serving style for bowls here, which requires you to mix the components yourself rather than receive a fully composed dish. They also don’t have delivery options, so you’ll have to drop by every time you crave their food.

Pros

  • High-quality Wagyu and organic poultry
  • Fast counter service model
  • Unique Yuringi sauce flavor profile
  • House-baked artisanal bread

Cons

  • No delivery options available
  • Semi-deconstructed bowl presentations

Customer Reviews:

Incredible Experience
Bulgogi, curry, salad with homemade dressing, and Nashville hot Korean style were all magnificent. I had to go back 2 days in a row because of that bulgogi. Excellent service and beer and liqueur pairings were on point. Thank you for an incredible experience! Well done. Oh and the decor rocks

Very Delicious
Definitely don’t pass up the opportunity to eat here. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We were greeted walking through the door. The food was brought out in a timely manner and was very delicious. My girlfriend ordered the Korean hot chicken and I ordered the spicy pork bulgogi. If I lived here in San Antonio, I would be ordering here at least one a week. We will be coming back here next time we are in town.

4. Pelicana Chicken

pelicana-chicken

Website: https://pelicanasanantonio.menu11.com/

Address: 5999 De Zavala Rd #123

Contact: 210-257-0726

Hours:

  • Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM
  • Friday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM

Heritage matters deeply in the culinary world, and Pelicana Chicken holds the title of the original franchise for this specific cooking style. This extensive industry experience translates directly into a highly refined and robust culinary offering.

I was impressed to find a wide assortment of customizable sauces here, along with unique side dishes like seaweed spring rolls.

If those sides sound a little out of place for this specific cooking style, you aren’t imagining things. Those are the types of appetizers you might normally expect at Japanese restaurants, making this menu surprisingly diverse.

Naturally, this level of culinary variety and brand prestige translate to their high pricing. In particular, the whole orders here demand a premium investment compared to casual neighborhood alternatives.

Pros

  • Decades of culinary expertise
  • Versatile chicken formats
  • Authentic imported Korean drinks
  • Customizable sauce add-ons

Cons

  • Premium price point
  • Large minimum wing orders

Customer Reviews:

Highly Recommend This Place
I was surprised to hear that it served South Korean chicken instead of Mexican food. So glad my daughter suggested this place for lunch. The cashier was so friendly and explained to us their menu and popular items after I told her that it’s our first time there. We decided to order regular and crispy chicken wings with honey soy and signature sauces to go. They were good and came with packages of pickled radishes. We highly recommend this place and will go back to try their other menu items.

Portions Were Generous
The best korean fried chicken in town, hands down for dukbokki with cheese on top. Oh my god I’m telling you the flavor was so good and portions were generous. Annie was doing a great job on recommending dishes and serving, overall all the employees were kind and friendly, the restaurant itself was cute and welcoming, food was delicious

5. Kim’s Galbi

kim-s-galbi

Website: https://kimsgalbi.com/

Address: 4527 Goldfield Dr

Contact: 210-662-6699

Hours:

  • Monday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Sunday, 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Kim’s Galbi is fundamentally a destination for authentic Korean BBQ, but their kitchen also happens to turn out a surprisingly satisfying chicken katsu that boasts a massive, golden-brown crunch.

But if a crispy fried cutlet feels a little too safe for your tastes, don’t worry. The menu caters to adventurous eaters as well, with a sprawling selection of proteins, including thinly sliced beef tongue and large combination platters.

Somehow, hearing the sizzle of raw meat hitting a hot tabletop grill, even if it’s from another table, feels similar to the interactive approach you might encounter when looking for sushi spots in other parts of town.

It’s the kind of meal that demands to be enjoyed fresh off the fire, so getting it sent from the restaurant to your home just isn’t an option.

And that’s why they entirely skip delivery services, so you’re left with just their curbside pickup option or, ideally, secure a table inside to get the full experience.

Pros

  • Crispy chicken alternatives
  • Spicy Korean chicken dishes
  • Quick appetizer wings
  • Generous daily hours

Cons

  • No delivery available
  • Minimum order requirements

Customer Reviews:

Outstanding Korean Food
Outstanding Korean food! We’ve been to South Korea several times and this food comes very close to the original. Fun experience to grill at your table and so many authentic options! Galbi, Bulgogi, Korean Fried Chicken, Mandu-guk, Seafood Pancake, Tteok-bokki, kimchi ….all delicious!!

Very Affordable
I had the spicy chicken and it comes with all the Korean sides, rice and lettuce wrap. This easily fed two people. Egg roles and steamed dumplings were delicious. Probably the better of the Korean restaurants here in San Antonio. I put 4 stars on the restaurant atmosphere because it’s no fancy place but it’s clean and good. The price was very affordable for all the food we got. Definitely a must try and will come back!
