Beat the Texas Heat with the 5 Best Shutters in San Antonio

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Product Quality: I checked the shutter materials each company offered, including real wood, composite, and vinyl options. I gave more weight to products that can handle heat, daily use, and long-term light exposure.

Customization Options: I looked at how well each provider could fit unique windows, finishes, and control preferences. Custom sizing mattered because shutters should feel built into the room, not added as an afterthought.

Installation Support: I focused on companies that handle measurements and mounting through trained installers. That matters because even a good shutter can look off if the fit is rushed.

Value and Warranty: I compared the service experience with warranty coverage and material quality. I also watched for terms that may vary by product, since that can affect long-term value.

Local Experience: I considered how easy it is to visit a showroom, book a consultation, or get help at home. Local support can make the buying process less stressful for homeowners.

If you are looking for the best shutters in San Antonio, the right installer can make a noticeable difference in both the look and comfort of your home. Custom shutters help control sunlight, improve privacy, and give each room a more polished finish.

Choosing the right shutters also means finding a provider that offers quality materials, precise measurements, and reliable installation.

From low-maintenance composite to classic hardwood options, the best companies can help you find a style that suits your home and budget.

To make the search easier, I looked into trusted local providers and talked to homeowners. Here are the ones known for their craftsmanship, product selection, and customer service.

How much does shutter installation cost in San Antonio?

In San Antonio, shutter installation usually costs $300 to $900+ per standard window, depending on the material, size, and custom fitting needs.

Motorized window treatments are useful when the afternoon sun hits the same room every day.

That’s where San Antonio Shades and Shutters works well. They’re especially ideal for homeowners who want automated shades or shutters planned before a larger remodel starts.

I like that the process begins with free measurements and design checks, so you can see what fits before committing.

Their certified installers also help when the project includes smart controls or exterior patio screens. If you’re already speaking with renovation contractors in San Antonio, adding these window solutions early can prevent layout issues later.

The downside is the width limit on exterior shades. Larger patio openings may need more than one section, which can affect the final look and budget.

Still, the modern control options make them a strong fit for comfort-focused upgrades.

Pros

  • Motorized interior and exterior systems
  • Family-operated local business
  • Free measurements and design checks
  • Certified installation technicians

Cons

  • Exterior shades limited to 25-foot width

Excellent Personal Service

Absolutely Incredible Transformation!  Josh and his team are top professionals.  From initial discussion and estimate to the install, we were absolutely impressed with the excellent personal service and delivery of a top product.  The shutters transformed our home and spaces. It is hard to know who to entrust your home to when doing remodeling or changes.  However, you won’t go wrong by choosing San Antonio Shades and Shutters.

Custom shutters are easier to choose when you can touch the samples instead of guessing from a screen. That’s why Window Fashions of Texas works well for homeowners who want locally made wood treatments and a real showroom experience.

Seeing the finishes up close also helps you compare colors, textures, and automation options before committing to a final look.

Because they manufacture their own wood designs, the team can keep a close eye on quality before installation.

I also like that the showroom lets you compare finishes, check Hunter Douglas models, and test automation features in person. That hands-on step helps when you’re deciding between classic shutters and smarter window treatments.

The trade-off is scheduling. Their showrooms are closed on Sundays, so busy homeowners need to visit during the workweek or on Saturday.

Even so, the local factory setup gives the service a more tailored feel.

Pros

  • Products made in a local factory
  • Interactive physical displays
  • Full line of Hunter Douglas items
  • Smart home integration options

Cons

  • Showrooms closed on Sundays

We Couldn’t Be Happier

New move and just had all new shutters installed. We color matched to different rooms and it came out great. From start to finish this company is extremely customer service focused. Joanna is very good at helping you pick the right window fashion for your home and Carl installed all the shutters very quickly and efficiently. We couldn’t be happier and highly recommend this company for affordable and fashionable window treatments.

Made in the Shade San Antonio makes choosing shutters at home feel easier than standing under showroom lighting.

Since they bring samples to your space, you can compare colors against your walls, floors, and natural light before making a decision.

That mobile approach is helpful if you’re replacing several window treatments at once.

The consultant can measure on-site, explain material choices, and guide you through cordless or motorized options without making you haul photos around town. I’d find that especially useful for rooms where the sun changes throughout the day.

The limitation is warranty coverage. While many products come with strong manufacturer protection, not every item has the same lifetime terms.

Specific lift systems may also have different rules, so it’s worth confirming coverage before you order.

Pros

  • Mobile showroom brought to your home
  • Strong manufacturer protections
  • Trained installation professionals
  • Cordless and motorized control options

Cons

  • Warranty terms vary by product

Professional, Knowledgeable, Personable, and Efficient

From the initial sales/measurement process with Jen Dobbins through installation with Juan and Gustruo all were professional, knowledgeable, personable, and efficient. After all shutters were installed the lead installer asked if I would please take a couple of moments to walk with him for a final check of each window.

Hours: Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM; Saturday: 10:00 AM-2:00 PM

Budget Blinds of North San Antonio is useful when a home has unusual window shapes that off-the-shelf options rarely fit well. Since the team can measure, design, and install custom shutters through one process, the project is organized from the start.

I recently recommended them to a friend who needed help with oddly shaped windows. The range of samples made it easier to compare shutters with blinds in San Antonio, especially for rooms that needed better heat control.

Their in-home and virtual consultations also make the process feel less rigid if you’re planning around work.

The catch is the warranty. Their No-Questions-Asked coverage is helpful, but it doesn’t apply to every product. You’ll need to check the terms for your chosen collection before ordering.

Pros

  • Virtual and in-home consultations
  • Complete design and mounting service
  • Handles unusual window shapes
  • Extensive national network inventory

Cons

  • NQA warranty excludes some products

Great Service

We purchased our home in 2019 and had Budget Blinds dress

every single window of our new home.  From blockout blinds in the bedroom, to plantation shutters, to motorized blinds in the main living area.  Service has always been great and continues to be great after six years.  The motorized blinds have needed some maintenance and tweaking over the years and they have always been very attentive and helpful with our needs.  The technician/repairman Matt is very knowledgeable and professional, and always resolves whatever issue we might have.

Highly Recommend

We recently had new Plantation Shutters installed, and we couldn’t be happier! They look beautiful, fit perfectly, and really elevate the look of our home. The installation was quick and professional.  Matt and his team were friendly, respectful and they did an excellent job. Thanks to Serene for coming out to our house to go over all of our options and preparing our estimate.  We highly recommend Budget Blinds!

Older homes often need shutters that fit tricky window sizes instead of standard openings. South Texas Draperies & Shutters has the long local experience to handle that kind of custom hardwood work.

Their operation dates back to 1978, and that history shows in the focus on exact fits and polished wood finishes.

I like that they can work with non-standard dimensions while still offering modern motorized controls. That mix is helpful if you want a classic look without giving up day-to-day convenience.

The trade-off is access. You have to call ahead for an appointment, so this isn’t the place for casual walk-in browsing.

Still, the appointment model can be a plus if you want focused advice on sizing and wood choices.

Pros

  • Operating locally since 1978
  • Premium hardwood materials
  • Fits non-standard window dimensions
  • Modern motorized control options

Cons

  • Advance phone appointments required

Real Eye for Detail

I don’t usually write reviews but I had such a great experience I have to share it. After pricing several San Antonio companies, I placed an order for real wood shutters from South Texas Draperies. Their sales representative, John, recommended large frames that looked like crown moldings at no extra charge. Their installer had a real eye for detail and did a wonderful job. I love how my home looks now, John was key in helping me find the perfect look by guiding me through the different choices and helping me stay within budget.

Real Professionals

I built a new home and always wanted plantation shutters. A family member used South Texas Drape and Shutter Co. and raved about them. Just got them installed and they look great. The workers were real professionals, when they left , it was like they were never here. I recommend them very highly.
