Urological issues can feel hard to talk about, especially when pain, prostate concerns, or pelvic symptoms are involved. That’s why finding the best urologist in San Antonio matters.
The right specialist should explain options clearly, respect your privacy, and make the next step feel less intimidating.
To help you find appropriate and reliable care, I looked at local clinics with strong medical focus, practical access, and patient comfort in mind.
This list is meant to help you compare care settings before booking an appointment.

1. Urology San Antonio

Address: 7909 Fredericksburg Rd, Ste 110
Contact: (210) 731-2050
Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Urology San Antonio is helpful when you want a clinic with many resources in one system.
I like that they have more than 30 providers, which gives patients access to focused areas like robotic surgery and urologic oncology.
That bigger network can also help if your case changes from a simple visit to something more involved.
A sensitive issue already brings enough stress. It helps when routine exams, cancer care, clinical research, and medication support are easier to coordinate.
For prescriptions, coordinating with separate pharmacies can feel like one more task, so in-house support is a practical perk.
The downside is that a large group can feel busier at intake. You may face longer lead times before everything is set up.
They’re also closed on weekends, which can be tough if weekday appointments are hard.
Heather is Awesome!
Heather is Awesome! She takes her time, is very professional and very understanding. I booked my appointment with her because she had such great reviews. She was the one who finally figured out what proper treatment and medication I needed to resolve issue after seeing to other doctors.

He gives me my options
Dr Hofer is an excellent doctor. I lucked into his care when I went to the ER with kidney stones on both sides. He and his cohorts gave me very good care. Since then I have seen him for follow up check ups. He gives me my options but doesn’t try to force anything on me before I am ready.
He is also very personable and understanding.
Give him a try. You won’t be disappointed 😌

2. Ahmad Azzawe, MD

Address: 8715 Village Dr, Suite 310
Contact: (210) 590-1018
Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Serious concerns like stubborn urinary issues or cancer screening can feel scary, so clear communication matters from the first visit. That’s why Ahmad Azzawe is a strong fit for patients who want surgical skill without feeling rushed.
A family member who consulted him appreciated that he explained the diagnosis in plain terms before walking through the next steps.
That made the care plan feel easier to understand, especially with a sensitive health issue involved. His focus on robotic and laparoscopic procedures also helps when recovery time is a major concern.
It also helps that he works through the Baptist Health System, since hospital support may be needed if surgery becomes part of the plan.
The limitation is access. Consultations are offered only in English, and his hospital network may not fit every patient’s insurance or preferred facility.
Appointment was great
Appointment was great. I arrived about 10 minutes early. Was called back shortly after I arrived. I filled out the paperwork online before I arrived. I waited to see the Doctor maybe 5 minutes. Was a great doctor visit. Dr. Azzawe was very attentive. He remembered things we had discussed while in the hospital where we met. Would recommend to others.

3. Mission City Urology

Website: missioncityurology.com
Address: 11212 TX-151, Suite 340
Contact: (726) 245-2824
Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Mission City Urology feels right for patients who dislike rushed medical visits. Instead of pushing high daily volume, the practice keeps the experience more personal, which can make sensitive topics easier to discuss.
Dr Arpan Satsangi’s biomedical engineering background adds a technical layer to the care, especially for prostate and surgical concerns.
I also like that treatment planning feels collaborative, so patients can ask questions before agreeing to a path. That slower, one-on-one style is the main reason the clinic feels less intimidating.
The trade-off is availability. Since this is a boutique single-doctor practice, quick appointments may be harder to secure.
Also, there isn’t another in-house doctor for a second opinion.
Excellent urology office
Excellent urology office with a very knowledgeable doctor. The staff is kind and helpful. I would recommend Mission City Urology to anyone who needs to see a urologist, located on the west side of San Antonio right off 151.

4. The Urology Place

Robotic prostate surgery can feel less overwhelming when the clinic has a clear focus on that kind of care. That’s where The Urology Place makes sense, especially for patients who want a surgeon with a strong track record.
Big procedures are easier to face when you know the doctor has handled similar cases many times before.
In this case, Dr. Naveen Kella brings extensive prostatectomy experience to the practice, which can give patients more confidence before moving forward.
I recommended this clinic to a close friend because they wanted a smaller setting instead of a large, crowded system. Their boutique setup can make conversations feel more personal, especially when you need time to understand surgical options.
The clinic also covers standard urology procedures, so it isn’t only for cancer-related care.
One limitation is that the practice has fewer internal providers. Their strong surgical focus may also feel less ideal if you want a more holistic or non-surgical path first.
Exceptional care
I recently had a procedure and am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Kella. His compassion, professionalism, and thorough answers to all my questions were truly reassuring. I especially appreciate the practical, daily advice he offered. George also deserves high praise for his excellent, calming demeanor and for taking all the time needed to address my concerns.

5. Joan T. Meaney, MD

Website: joanmeaneymd.com
Address: 7434 Louis Pasteur Dr #215
Contact: (210) 463-9642
Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:30 AM-4:00 PM
Joan T. Meaney, MD is a thoughtful option for women who want pelvic and urology care in a calmer setting. Many patients feel anxious discussing pelvic pain or bladder symptoms, so a respectful solo practice can make the visit feel less exposed.
Her background in female urology, pelvic floor surgery, and preventative care gives the office a clear focus. For women already working with gynecologists on related symptoms, that focus can make follow-up feel more connected.
I also like that her central medical district location is straightforward for many patients.
The downside is scheduling. The office closes at 4:00 PM and doesn’t offer weekend hours, which may be hard for people with standard workdays.
One of the best doctors
Dr. Meaney is truly one of the best doctors you can find. She cares about her patients in every way. She’s gotten me through a very difficult pregnancy and she saw me without question when an unexpected medical emergency required immediate action. I cannot stress how wonderful she is as a person and as a doctor.
