1. Chika – Omakase

Website: https://www.chikasatx.com/
Address: 875 E Ashby Pl San Antonio, TX 78212
Contact: (210) 800-5993 / [email protected]
Hours: Thursday – Friday: 6 pm & 8 pm seatings; Saturday: 5 pm, 7 pm & 9 pm seatings
Diving into an underground culinary journey is exactly what you get with Chika’s unique SATX-style tasting menu. It brilliantly merges San Antonio flair with Tokyo traditions to create a flavor profile you will not find anywhere else.
Led by 2025 James Beard Award semifinalists Chef Jonathan Reyes and Chef John Ramos, the chef’s counter turns every course into an intimate, mouth-watering show.
I recently brought a date here, and we were completely captivated by the theatrical preparation happening right before our eyes. The chefs also explained the origin of each slice.
Not to mention, the sultry speakeasy vibe is undeniably cool.
Unfortunately, getting a seat is incredibly tough since they only operate three days a week. Additionally, their strict no-vegetarian policy and lack of dietary flexibility can be a major hurdle for diners with specific eating habits. The upscale, fashionable dress code also means you cannot just drop in casually after a long day of work.
Customer Reviews
Chika omakase is a real treat and an incredibly entertaining omakase experience. The chefs are clearly passionate about the products they source and serve. It was wonderful to hear about their preparations of each dish and I greatly appreciated their ability to accommodate allergies throughout the multiple rounds of courses. The room is large enough to fit parties at tables behind the bar seating which made the setting seem even more like dinner and a show. There is sake, wine and beer service throughout the meal. Highly recommend for sushi lovers celebrating birthday or special date night.

Food was delicious and had a unique twist. Chefs put on a good show and are personable. If you have dietary restrictions and let them know on the front end, they do their best to accommodate. We had a great time. Perfect way to spend our anniversary!

2. Jimoto Omakase

Website: https://www.jimotosatx.com/
Address: 1017 North Flores Street San Antonio, TX 78212
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Friday – Saturday: 6 – 11 pm
If you want an educational deep dive into Japanese culinary heritage, the Kyoto-inspired Jimoto delivers an incredibly authentic atmosphere. Validated by a Japanese Food Supporter certification from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the chefs act as goodwill ambassadors by teaching guests about the rich history behind each meticulous course.
I loved biting into their buttery, Tokyo-imported fish, which made me appreciate why traditional preparation matters.
Moreover, this six-seat lounge is wonderfully intimate and exclusive.
However, you have to bring your own beverages from the restaurant downstairs since they lack a dedicated liquor license. Navigating that logistical step can slightly disrupt the upscale flow of the evening.
Furthermore, securing one of those six seats requires hawkish attention to their strict weekly ticket releases, making impromptu visits impossible for anyone craving a spontaneous night out.
Customer Reviews
“Absolutely outstanding! Jimoto has quickly become one of my favorite spots in San Antonio. Every dish is crafted with so much care and flavor — you can truly taste the freshness and authenticity in every bite. The presentation is beautiful, the portions are generous, and the balance of flavors is just perfect. On top of that, the staff is so welcoming and attentive, which makes the whole dining experience even better. If you’re looking for a place that serves food made with passion and heart, Jimoto is the place to go. Highly recommended — a true 5-star experience!”

Tops our list of one of the best omakase experiences we’ve had ever and is by far the best in San Antonio! The setting is intimate and casual. 9 courses of unique, delicate yet generous servings of umami. Amazing flavor from beginning to end! Chef was great to chat with! What a wonderful, memorable evening. Can’t wait for the next one!

3. SUKO Japanese Cuisine

Website: http://sukosatx.com/
Address: 17134 Bulverde Rd #106 San Antonio TX 78247
Contact: (210) 257-6535 / [email protected]
Hours: Monday – Friday: 11:30 am – 10 pm; Saturday: 12 – 10 pm; Sunday: 12 – 9 pm
Taking a bold approach to traditional sushi, SUKO specializes in a fascinating dry-aging process that removes excess moisture to intensely concentrate the umami flavor. The result is a delightfully tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture that completely elevates standard cuts of raw seafood.
Their massive 17-course tasting menu uses premium ingredients sourced directly from Tokyo’s world-renowned Toyosu Market, beautifully pairing classic techniques with modern culinary artistry.
I recently tried their signature seared A5 Wagyu course during a long Friday lunch, and the intense, savory richness completely blew my mind.
That said, the strict booking policies can feel somewhat rigid. These rules include a non-refundable deposit for late cancellations and an automatic 20% gratuity added to the final bill.
Moreover, the far North Side location means a rather long drive for anyone living near the central or southern neighborhoods.

Food was presented beautifully and the flavor was nothing short of immaculate ! The staff was over all cordial but our server Johnathan went above and beyond. Kudos to the excellent sushi chefs. Would reccommend these Lukas the Spider roll and Texas wagyu. Fries rice is a must try! They even treated us to special dessert for my parent’s wedding anniversary

Had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Suko’s. The seafood was so fresh, apps were delicious, staff were friendly, drinks were good, and the owner was super nice as well. I recommend the ocean platter if you’re into sashimi. We also got oysters, edamame, wagyu pockets, and stir fried ramen. I can’t wait to be back!

Contact: (210) 340-7808 / [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 11 am – 2 pm, 5 pm – 9 pm
Craving a vibrant mix of classic techniques and modern Asian fusion? Sushihana is a local staple that has been satisfying sushi enthusiasts since 2002 with highly customized flavor profiles and exotic nigiri selections.
Their veteran team of highly trained chefs tailors every single dish to order, ensuring each piece pops with creative spices and unexpected sauces. I particularly enjoyed their incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned yellowtail.
The kitchen clearly knows how to balance delicate raw fish with bold, contemporary ingredients to create a memorable dish. Plus, the extensive premium sake list pairs beautifully with the meal.
On the downside, the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, significantly limiting your weekend dining options. Finally, hungry diners must navigate a very cramped, shared parking lot that quickly becomes a headache during the peak evening rush.
Customer Reviews
Extremely well-prepared dishes, both delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The fish is fresh and not too fishy. A good place for a date night. Expect a mix of people dressed upscale and families in pajamas. Good cocktail and mocktail menu. This was our second visit and both were good. Reservations recommended.

5. Godai Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant

.Website: http://godaisushi.com/
Address: 11203 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78213
Contact: (408) 334-5477 / [email protected]
Fusing the delicate artistry of traditional Japanese sushi with the bold, savory punch of Korean cuisine, Godai offers an award-winning tasting experience unlike any other in the city.
Helmed by a master chef with decades of trusted culinary expertise, the daily selection of up to 18 different kinds of fish ensures a wonderfully diverse progression of flavors. The spicy, marinated Korean elements perfectly complement the fresh raw cuts, creating an exciting sensory explosion with every single bite.
However, you might encounter some reported inconsistencies with the sushi rice texture. You must also call well in advance to reserve the highly customized chef’s tasting course. Furthermore, the dining room service can occasionally feel a bit rushed when the restaurant hits its maximum seating capacity.

Had a great time at Godai Sushi with my wife and some close friends who are custom home builders. As local licensed realtors, my wife and I are always looking for new places to try, and this one did not disappoint. We went to talk real estate, enjoy good food, and unwind, and Godai delivered on all of it. The sushi was excellent, the atmosphere was chill and comfortable, and the service was friendly and attentive. A perfect spot for great conversation and a quality meal. We’ll definitely be back.

This is the BEST restaurant in all of Texas if not beyond. I had the most amazing dinner experience with my wife on our anniversary the other day and I had to share. We had the 9 course Omakase where the chef makes each course right in front of you. All of the food was absolutely sublime and the chef was absolutely hilarious and super chill. The food was out of this world amazing!! The best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had A LOT of sushi before.
