We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Amenities and Recreation: We evaluated the variety and quality of on-site facilities, prioritizing locations with exceptional pools, spas, or activities. Properties offering a self-contained vacation experience scored the highest in our assessment.

Comfort and Accommodations: Our analysis focused on the spaciousness and layout of the guest rooms. We looked for comfortable retreats that provide distinct relaxation areas to elevate a simple overnight stay into a proper getaway.

Location and Accessibility: We considered the property's proximity to scenic environments or vibrant downtown areas. Finding the right balance between a secluded atmosphere and convenient access to local attractions was a major priority.

Value and Guest Satisfaction: We scrutinized the overall cost relative to the services provided. Consistent cleanliness and attentive hospitality were essential factors in determining which establishments truly deliver on their promises.

Sometimes the most refreshing escape is sitting right in your own backyard. You don’t need to book a cross-country flight to experience a memorable retreat, especially when local gems are waiting to be explored!

Hours: Check-in time: 4:00 PM | Check-out time: 10:00 AM

Families looking for an immersive escape will find this location, surrounded by 39 acres of scenic Texas Hill Country, to be an excellent choice.

Hyatt Vacation Club at Wild Oak Ranch leans heavily into a nature-focused, ranch-style experience that instantly transports you out of the urban rush.

When you’re here, it’s easy to spend the entire afternoon floating down their 800-foot lazy river or lounging by the expansive indoor and outdoor pools.

The spacious villa-style accommodations make packing and settling in a breeze for larger groups. Having a full kitchen and a separate living area provides a wonderful home-away-from-home comfort that standard hotel layouts simply cannot match.

However, note that certain facilities are occasionally closed for maintenance without prior notice. Some guests also mention delayed responses from the front desk when requesting room assistance.

Pros

  • Massive 800-foot lazy river
  • Spacious villa-style rooms
  • Full kitchens available
  • Engaging kids’ activities
  • Authentic ranch architecture

Cons

  • Occasional facility closures
  • Slow front desk responses
  • Potential for minor pest issues

Staff was courteous, friendly, and helpful

Hubby and I had a terrific stay at Wild Oak Ranch in January of 2026. We had a one bedroom suite with a king bed, washer/dryer, huge bathroom, full kitchen, and living room. Oh, and a nice balcony too! Staff was courteous, friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed the heated pool and even went through the lazy river on the warmest day – still chilly – but earned bragging rights by taking a couple loops around. We will be back again!

Food was easily ordered

We had a great vacation over Christmas break. The weather was great so we were able to use both the lazy river and pool. It was very relaxing and low key after the busy holiday rush, which was just what we were looking for coming from Chicago. Food was easily ordered poolside and delivered. We loved the city of San Antonio, exploring and sight seeing. We also did a day at  Sea World which was very convenient staying here. I would recommend this family resort.

Anyone chasing a massive water park adventure will be thrilled by the sheer scale of JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa.

The sprawling nine-acre aquatic area is a major highlight, featuring multiple slides and an adults-only infinity pool that caters to every mood.

During my last visit, I spent an entire morning alternating between the lazy river and the luxurious Lantana Spa, completely forgetting I was still in the city.

Beyond the water attractions, the property serves as a self-contained oasis for active travelers. Golfers can enjoy two championship courses, while multiple on-site dining venues eliminate the need to leave the grounds for dinner.

Overall, this place has a fantastic setup for those who want a packed itinerary within walking distance of their bed.

On the downside, the high price tag doesn’t always guarantee flawless hospitality. For instance, some visitors report inconsistent service quality, particularly at the busy pool bars and during checkout.

Pros

  • Nine-acre water park
  • Two championship golf courses
  • Multiple on-site restaurants
  • Full-service luxury spa
  • Sprawling 600-acre landscape

Cons

  • High premium pricing
  • Inconsistent staff service
  • Occasional room upkeep issues

made my stay extra special

The JW Marriott San Antonio is really beautiful.  They worked really hard on the grounds. The amenities and the staff were lovely. They are very helpful, friendly and attentive.  The on prem restaurants are wonderful.  I have nothing bad to say about the jw marriott in San Antonio.  Great for company and conference meetings.  Special thank you to Stacy who made my stay extra special by resolving quickly a small check in issue I had.

our trip feel special and memorable

I’ve stayed at my fair share of resorts but this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to leave a review. The customer service here stands out. Kimberly and Daisy at the front desk went above and beyond for my wife and I. They simply made our trip feel special and memorable. We also had the pleasure of being waited on by Daniel at Cibolo moon, he was also outstanding. So personable. The golf and spa were obvious great, but the service was stellar and made the trip extra special.

Address: 16641 La Cantera Parkway

Hours: Check-in: 4:00 PM | Check-out: 11:00 AM

Sweeping panoramic views of the rolling hills make this elevated retreat a visually stunning choice for a relaxing weekend.

Signia beautifully highlights modern luxury within a peaceful natural environment, establishing an atmosphere that feels incredibly secluded. High-end amenities are scattered throughout the grounds, encouraging guests to unwind completely.

You can easily tailor you stay here by choosing between lively family pools and the quieter, adults-only infinity pool.

The luxury spa offers extensive hydrotherapy treatments, while the championship golf course provides a challenging yet scenic afternoon activity.

Keep in mind that the quality of your stay might depend heavily on the room type you select. Standard rooms sometimes fall short of the luxury expectations set by the stunning grounds, and general service can occasionally fluctuate.

For an extra layer of exclusivity, consider upgrading to a private villa, as it’s complete with dedicated check-in and elevated room features.

Pros

  • Five outdoor pool areas
  • Dedicated adults-only spaces
  • Exclusive private villas
  • Premium wellness spa
  • Proximity to major shops

Cons

  • Standard rooms lack luxury feel
  • Service consistency fluctuates

extremely pleasant experience

We arranged a block of rooms for the weekend of my son’s wedding. I must say, the hotel was excellent in every way. The staff was accommodating and extremely helpful, they made this an extremely pleasant experience. Although every staff member with whom we interacted was excellent, Zarelda Marrero of the meeting and events staff and Vera Rodriguez, group room coordinator, were excellent and particularly helpful. The rooms were clean and recently remodeled, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Great experience!

The food is wonderful and the service is excellent.

Wonderful resort in the Hill Country outside San Antonio.  If you’re going to stay here, stay on the child-free Seventh Floor.  You’ll meet the charming and bright Marcela at the lounge there and enjoy a few drinks and a snack or two.

I recommend dinner at Signature.  The food is wonderful and the service is excellent.

4. Omni La Mansión del Rio

Address: 112 College Street

Contact: (210) 518-1000

Hours: Check-in: 4:00 PM | Check-out: 12:00 PM

Historic Spanish Colonial architecture gives Omni La Mansión del Rio a deeply romantic and distinctive ambiance.

Guests benefit from a prime location directly on the river, making it incredibly easy to explore local shops and cafes on foot. I distinctly remember enjoying a fantastic al fresco dinner by the water before retreating to their serene, heated courtyard pool.

The urban resort feel continues with access to premium wellness services, though it’s a short stroll away.

Guests are also granted entry to the highly rated Mokara Spa at a neighboring sister property, offering a lavish menu of treatments.

Because of its historic nature, the guest rooms are notably more compact than newer builds. The bustling central location also means that riverfront rooms can sometimes pick up some street and pedestrian noise.

Nonetheless, a staycation at Omni La Mansión del Rio is a wonderful way to mix vibrant city energy with dedicated relaxation time.

Pros

  • Prime riverfront walkability
  • Historic architectural charm
  • Heated courtyard pool
  • Access to a four-star spa
  • Great al fresco dining

Cons

  • Compact room sizes
  • Spa located off-site
  • Potential for street noise

we’ll definitely be back

Great location and such a welcoming atmosphere! The staff truly go above and beyond to make your stay special. There’s a cute bar and restaurant on the property, and the brunch was fantastic!

Molly and Sait were professional, polite, and incredibly thoughtful — they really helped make my wife’s birthday celebration memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend this hotel and we’ll definitely be back

the building has a wonderful history

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Mansion! The staff was very attentive, helpful, and pleasant. Ideal location if you want to enjoy the Riverwalk. The courtyards/pool area are lovely and relaxing. The bar was decorated very festively for Christmas. Located right next to St. Mary’s, we also enjoyed the Sunday morning bells. The building has a wonderful history and beautiful ambiance. We look forward to another stay!

As an all-suite hotel, Hotel Contessa offers rooms with a distinct living area separate from the bedroom, providing wonderful breathing room.

This generous layout is particularly appealing for couples or families who want to settle in for a multi-day urban escape.

The amenities elevate the experience far beyond a standard overnight stay in the city center. A heated rooftop pool offers sweeping downtown views, while the on-site spa delivers specialized, soothing treatments.

Dining on locally inspired cuisine at the ground-floor restaurant caps off a perfectly relaxed evening right on the water.

While the suites are generally well-appointed, a few visitors have pointed out minor wear and tear in certain units. Additionally, the speed of room service and front desk assistance can be a bit unpredictable during busy weekends.

Pros

  • Spacious all-suite layouts
  • Heated rooftop pool
  • Direct riverfront access
  • On-site wellness spa
  • Excellent local dining

Cons

  • Variable room conditions
  • Slower weekend service

easy access to the River walk.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Contessa. Everyone was very welcome and the hotel was very clean. Our room was amazing! We enjoyed hanging out in the  living room and watching TV. There was so much space. We also loved the view from our room and it had easy access to the River walk. We felt very safe and will return again.

one of the best hotels I’ve ever

As a first-time visitor to San Antonio, I wanted a place that was both comfortable and top quality—and Hotel Contessa exceeded my expectations. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I especially loved the Christmas decorations (I’m a huge holiday lover); it truly felt like home. The room was very spacious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The location is perfect—close to all the tourist spots, near downtown, with a beautiful river view. Overall, an amazing stay!
