1. Dominion MMA

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7 AM–10 PM; Saturday, 7 AM–1 PM
Finding a facility with a world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) pedigree is uncommon, but this spot delivers exactly that through its affiliation with Head Affiliate Professor Tom DeBlass.
They also offer highly specialized striking systems like Peek-a-Boo Boxing and 52 Blocks, which are incredibly hard to find locally.
I actually tagged along with a friend for one of their grappling sessions, and the technical breakdown from the coaching staff was sharp and insightful.
They give you a generous three-day free trial to test out everything from striking to grappling before you commit. They don’t lock you in on long-term contracts, making this an excellent choice for aspiring fighters who want serious training without hidden fees.
However, absolute beginners should know that the intensity here runs pretty high, and their fitness-heavy classes can feel overwhelming at first.

2. RONIN MMA TEXAS

Website: http://www.roninmmatx.com/
Address: 5630 W LOOP 1604 N STE #104
Contact: (210) 775-4133 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 5:30–8:30 PM; Friday, 6:30–8:30 PM
Honoring military roots is a huge part of the local culture. That’s why this female veteran-owned academy brings that distinct grit and discipline straight to the mats.
Founded by United States Marine Corps (USMC) veteran Felicia Bannister, RONIN MMA TEXAS creates a highly inclusive environment by offering adaptive training specifically designed for people with physical limitations.
They’re also heavily involved in the community, providing free training for active police officers and partnering with groups like the We Defy Foundation.
You’ll quickly notice how tight-knit and welcoming the community feels, despite the fact that they managed to fit a custom-built cage into the facility.
If you’re a veteran or just someone wanting to avoid the vibe of a solo personal trainer, this warm environment is tough to beat.
The main downside is their compact footprint, which means the mats can get quite crowded during peak evening hours.
Customer Reviews
My experience with Ronin MMA was amazing. The professor was friendly and welcomed me and my buddy with open arms. She took the time to teach us some new submissions and escapes. The members were also very polite and helped us with our stand-up. If you are ever in the area and looking for a positive and helpful BJJ gym I highly recommend Ronin MMA. They also specialize in Muaythai and MMA. I am looking forward to visiting soon.

Found this gym just searching Maps and I’m very happy we found it. My 10 yr old didn’t have any experience in MMA but now after only 4 weeks he’s very knowledgeable and excited to get home to show me and his mother what he’s learned. There are also many other kids in this gym and loves to train after school.

3. Pinnacle Martial Arts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA San Antonio

Website: https://bjj-sanantonio.com/
Address: 4926 Golden Quail #204
Contact: (210) 348-6004 | [email protected]
Hours: Mon & Wed, 9 AM–8:30 PM; Tue & Thu, 6–7:30 AM, 12–9 PM; Fri, 9 AM–6 PM; Sat, 10 AM–2 PM
Pinnacle Martial Arts utilizes a dedicated fundamentals curriculum that ensures new students actually learn the mechanics rather than just serving as punching bags for advanced veterans.
When I chatted with a few members who train here, they practically raved about how patient the instructors are with newcomers.
Every coach on the schedule has over ten years of experience, ensuring you get high-quality instruction across their sixty weekly classes.
This gym understands that jumping into combat sports can be intimidating, so they offer a full thirty days of training completely free to help ease you past the awkward beginner phase.
The primary drawback is that they lean very heavily into foundational basics, which might feel a bit slow if you’re an experienced fighter wanting a hardcore camp atmosphere.
Even so, the sheer volume of classes and zero financial risk make it ideal for anyone juggling a busy lifestyle.

4. House of Jiu-Jitsu

Website: http://www.hojsatx.com/
Address: 823 S Laredo St
Contact: (210) 386-0780 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6 AM–9:30 PM; Saturday, 10 AM–2 PM; Sunday, 10 AM–1 PM
Dedicated infrastructure is crucial for serious practice. Luckily, House of Jiu-Jitsu features a separate training area with a regulation cage specifically built for mixed martial arts classes.
They operate under an individual-first philosophy, led by Professor Jacob Landin, where the focus remains heavily on personal growth rather than just chasing competition medals.
Because they integrate striking and grappling under one roof, you get a well-rounded combat education that rivals many dedicated Muay Thai gyms.
And I love that they run a structured five-week onboarding program that lets new students walk away penalty-free if they end up deciding the sport is not for them.
You do need to prepare for some serious parking struggles, though, as their trendy Southtown location gets highly congested during peak evening hours.
Additionally, their schedule leans heavily toward grappling, leaving fewer time slots if you strictly want to focus on striking.

This gym is great the mma and jiujitsu is amazing, the vibes are amazing, there are successful fighters out of this gym, the girls bathroom is great has a really cute changing table hair ties pads and all that. And the speak easy Muay Thai donation base program they have going on is very affordable and really really good Muay Thai. I would highly recommend this gym.

Dropping in from out of town–this gym is newish and in an awesome space–plenty of room to run separate classes on two different mats, plus MMA offerings. The people were very friendly and welcoming and the two classes (wrestling and gi) I tried were awesome. Great to have later night classes. Would definitely recommend this place to new folks and experienced folks alike!! Thanks Prof. Jacob!

5. Ohana Academy South

Website: https://ohanajiujitsu.com/
Address: 2619 S.E. Military Drive Suite 117
Contact: (210) 764-9883 | [email protected]
Hours: Mon, 11:30 AM–1 PM, 4–8 PM; Tue-Thu, 11:30 AM–12:30 PM, 4–8 PM; Fri, 4–7 PM; Sat, 10 AM–12 PM
Training under coaches who have actual professional cage experience elevates your skill level tremendously.
Ohana Academy South provides practical instruction by employing active fighters, giving members access to high-level techniques across striking and grappling.
True to its name, the academy fosters a warm, family-oriented culture that makes both young children and adult beginners feel immediately welcome on the mats.
Plus, membership here also grants you access to their network of four different locations across the city, providing excellent geographic flexibility for busy schedules.
However, you’ll likely have to commit to a long-term contract of twelve to thirty-six months, which is a major hurdle if you prefer month-to-month payments.
The South branch is also a smaller satellite facility, meaning that space can feel cramped during the crossover between youth and adult sessions.
Customer Reviews
Ohana is a great academy to train in! You are entering into a community that not only pushes you on the mats, but off the mats as well.
They have created a space that is great for those who train jiu jitsu as a hobby and for those seeking to do MMA fights. Even in a big class size, you can not hide from the professor or coaches. Someone is always there to help you improve and learn.
I am delighted to be part of such a great team!
