Finding the best donut shop in San Antonio is harder than it sounds when every neighborhood seems to have its own favorite box of glazed rings.
Some mornings call for a no-fuss classic, while others need something extra with wild toppings, strong coffee, or even breakfast tacos on the side.
I pulled together shops that cover both ends of that craving, from old-school local staples to creative spots that lean more gourmet.
If you’re trying to narrow down where to stop first, these are the places that stood out most for freshness, variety, value, and overall experience.

1. Original Donut Shop

Website: http://originaldonut.shop/
Address: 3307 Fredericksburg Rd
Contact: (210) 734-5661
Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Satisfying a craving for both savory Tex-Mex and sweet pastries in one stop is a huge win. That’s exactly why Original Donut Shop stays so busy with early risers.
You can grab handmade flour tortillas filled with breakfast staples right alongside classic donuts, which makes it a practical pick when not everyone in the car wants the same thing.
I swung by on a busy Saturday morning, and the warm tacos absolutely lived up to the hype. The donuts tasted fresh, too, and the pricing felt especially friendly for families trying to keep breakfast affordable.
The downside is the wait. This place is popular enough that long lines feel almost expected, especially on weekends. Though the drive-through helps a bit when you are rushing through a weekday morning.

Melt In Your Mouth
This is a little gem. I was originally looking for donuts and found they have tacos as well!!! Two of my favorites in one place. The donut are hot and fresh and really melt in your mouth. The chocolate glaze is really chocolate and not artificial flavors. The tortillas are made my hand. With the drive and parking.

Donuts and Pastries
This is still one of my favorite places. They’re making the tortillas right there in front of you, they can’t get any fresher than that. And they’re good! Great tacos. Great donuts and pastries. Usually great service.

2. Voodoo Doughnut

Website: https://www.voodoodoughnut.com/
Address: 400 E Houston St.
Contact: (210) 964-7666
Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 6:00 AM – 12:00 AM; Friday-Saturday, 6:00 AM – 3:00 AM
Hunting for late-night desserts downtown usually means settling for limited choices. But Voodoo Doughnut changes that with a huge menu full of colorful, unconventional flavors.
It’s the kind of place that works well for tourists, night owls, and anyone who wants a donut that looks as fun as it tastes. The vegan selection is another plus if your group has different dietary needs.
I like it as a stop after dinner, especially when I’m already downtown near some of the top Japanese restaurants in San Antonio. The wild toppings and late hours make it feel more like part of the outing than just a quick sugar run.
The catch is parking. Street spots can be frustrating to find in this part of town, so you may need to walk a bit before you get your hands on anything.

Excellent Customer Service
Fun atmosphere with unique donut options. We kept it simple with the Homer, raised glazed, and Portland cream. All three were delicious. We received excellent customer service from the woman behind the counter who took her time showing us all of the fun sticker options. I wish I could remember her name, sorry!

3. The Art Of Donut

Website: https://www.artofdonut.com/
Address: 3428 N. St. Mary’s St.
Contact: (210) 265-5423
Hours: Monday, Closed; Tuesday-Friday, 7:00 AM – Sold Out; Saturday-Sunday, 8:00 AM – Sold Out
Turning a simple donut run into something that feels a little more upscale takes real care. The Art Of Donut clearly leans into that handcrafted approach.
The shop focuses on artisanal flavors made with gourmet ingredients, including real fruit-based icings. They even give you a choice between soft yeast donuts and denser cake varieties.
I picked up a box for a friend’s gathering, and the premium toppings were a hit before the lid was even back on the table. The rotating seasonal flavors also keep the menu from feeling predictable if you like trying something new.
The only issue is availability. Because the batches are small and the shop closes when it sells out, you really do need to arrive early if there’s a specific flavor you want.

Regular Treat
YES!!! We found our donut spot!!!!!! Ever since I left Colorado Springs and Amy’s donuts (I’m 2019!!!), I’ve been on the search for delicious, gourmet/craft donuts. My search has ended!!! I’ve only had 2 donuts so far: the vanilla with strawberry icing and The Unicorn, and both were fantastic!! Light, airy, and just perfectly sweet (not overbearing and feeling like I’m going to become hyperglycemic haha). Also, the staff were SO pleasant!!! That’s always appreciated when you feel welcomed. It’s going to be our regular treat! Can’t wait to come back with the whole family.

Soft and a Little Cool
Visited on a Monday around noon. The place was clean. Ladies were friendly and very helpful being it was my first time there. They have a great variety of donuts. The taste as far as donut itself was ok. They were soft and a little cool. I thought they would be a little warm. The flavors were good. A bit expensive but worth a try.

4. Parlor Doughnuts

Website: https://www.parlordoughnuts.com/
Address: 23535 I-10, Suite 2102
Contact: (210) 233-1872
Hours: Monday-Sunday, 6:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Parlor Doughnuts is the place I would send anyone who wants something different from the usual soft yeast ring. The layered dough here gives each pastry a crisp, flaky bite.
It eats more like a sweet croissant than a standard donut, which makes the whole menu feel a little more gourmet. The craft coffee lineup helps, too, especially if you want to slow down and stay awhile instead of grabbing a box and leaving.
I also appreciate the keto-friendly and gluten-free options.
The clean, modern space makes it an easy stop after a nice meal out at an omakase in San Antonio. That extra flexibility gives the shop a broader appeal than its signature texture alone.
The trade-off is that the texture isn’t for everyone. If you’re specifically craving a classic fluffy donut, the layered style may feel more like a pastry detour than the real thing.

Incredibly Smooth
We absolutely love this spot! It’s adorable and super cozy. Not only are the donuts delicious, but the coffee is delicious. My husband always goes for the iced latte, while I stick with the cold brew, it’s incredibly smooth. It’s rare to find a donut shop that nails both donuts and coffee, but this place does it perfectly.

Got bBetter and Better
I’m diabetic, my son has an egg allergy and the wife has a gluten allergy. And when i tell you they have options for all 3 of us, and THEYRE DELICIOUS. Great coffee, amazing donuts. The keto cherry chocolate donut was by far our favorite. I was thrown off for a bit cuz it didn’t look like cherry or chocolate. But wowwwww the first bite blew me away, and it just got better and better each bite. My only regret? Should’ve gotten more

5. Duck Donuts

Website: https://www.duckdonuts.com/
Address: 11703 Huebner Rd
Contact: (210) 476-5500
Hours: Monday-Wednesday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Duck Donuts makes an ordinary donut stop feel more interactive. Every order is made to order, fried fresh, and finished right in front of you.
You get a vanilla cake donut base and then build from there with different icings, drizzles, and toppings, which makes the whole experience especially fun for families with kids.
I like that every donut comes out hot, because that fresh-from-the-fryer texture is the main reason to come here. Watching the toppings go on is part of the appeal, too, and it gives the shop more personality than a standard display case setup.
The downside is speed. Since each order is built individually, the line can move more slowly than it would at a bakery where everything is already sitting behind the glass.

Must Go To
The MOST AMazing cake donuts !! Made to order with so many choices or build your own from their various toppings. This location is small but mighty tucked at the end of the shopping area. A must go to to delight your taste buds. Some egg breakfast items on the menu. On my next visit i will be ordering the donut topped with ice cream. Be sure to eat the donuts while they are warm.

Unique Donut Experience
This is an amazing unique donut experience!! Their donuts are made to order cake donuts packed with flavor. The establishment is very clean. The staff is welcoming and deligent. I’d recommend several visits due to the fact you can have just a donut, make it a breakfast or brunch sandwich, or close out an early day with a sweet treat by adding ice cream to your donut! There’s a table for sitting in, however several benches for waiting for your order to go.
