The 5 Best Assisted Living Communities in San Antonio for Your Loved One

assisted-living-communities-in-san-antonio
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Care and Staffing Ratios: We examined the hands-on care provided to residents, prioritizing homes with low staff-to-resident ratios. This helps seniors get more immediate, individualized attention instead of waiting too long for assistance.

Dining and Nutritional Programs: A major factor in our evaluation was the flexibility and quality of the daily dining experience. We looked for communities that offer chef-prepared meals and can accommodate specialized dietary needs.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness: We looked closely at the security measures in place, including 24/7 supervision and in-room emergency response systems. Facilities with strong protocols for both standard care and memory support ranked highest.

Overall Value and Flexibility: We compared base pricing and contract flexibility to get a clearer sense of the long-term financial impact on families. Communities with month-to-month leases or more adjustable service tiers stood out for their adaptability.

Looking for the best assisted living in San Antonio can feel heavy, especially when you’re trying to protect a parent’s independence without ignoring safety.

I know how quickly the choices start to blur once memory care, dining, contracts, and day-to-day support all enter the picture.

That’s why I narrowed this guide to communities that stood out for compassionate care, practical amenities, and a living setup that still feels warm and human. The goal here is simple: help you compare strong local options with a little more confidence.

And if you need extra support, here are the best elder care services in the area.

How Much Does Assisted Living Cost in San Antonio?

Assisted living in San Antonio typically costs $2,500 to over $6,000 per month, depending on the level of care and the amenities a community provides.

Care Level / TypeMonthly Cost Range
Standard Assisted Living$2,500 – $5,100+
Memory Care (Specialized)$3,000 – $6,000+

1. Villa de San Antonio Senior & Assisted Living

Website: https://stellarliving.com/

Address: 8103 North Hollow

Contact: (210) 558-7600

Hours: Available 24/7

What immediately stood out to me at Villa de San Antonio was the tiered “Stellar Support” system and the all-day, restaurant-style dining. That setup gives families more flexibility because residents can pay for the care they need without losing the freedom to eat on their own schedule.

During my visit, I was impressed by the beautifully designed chapel hosting daily Mass and the “Wellness Edge” water aerobics class in the heated pool.

The place felt more like a neighborhood than a facility, especially with the fenced dog park for residents with pets.

That said, the biggest drawback is that Villa is strictly private-pay, so it doesn’t accept Medicare or Medicaid.

Even so, the month-to-month setup, strong veteran presence, and quiet location near the medical center make it a great fit for seniors who want a social, maintenance-free lifestyle.

Pros

  • Maintenance-free living with same-day repairs
  • LifeLoop family connection portal
  • Quiet location near medical center
  • Flexible month-to-month contracts
  • Strong military and veteran presence

Cons

  • Strictly private-pay only
  • Shuttle service limited to six days

Very pleased with Villa

We are very pleased with Villa. The assisted living director and staff truly care about the residents. There are many activities and the food menu options are very good. The facility is clean and inviting. Villa is a true community.

A must see!!!

I can’t say enough how wonderful and amazing this senior living community is and the staff have longevity established which is rare. The Chapel is incredible and my favorite! The Health & Wellness Director (Roger) truly loves his residents/families along with all the staff. This is by far the BEST community in the city and HIGHLY recommend.

2. Adante Assisted Living & Memory Care

Website: https://www.adanteassistedliving.com/

Address: 2702 Cembalo Blvd

Contact: (210) 899-7495

Hours: Available 24/7

When I looked at Adante Assisted Living & Memory Care, the biggest strength was how clearly the community is built around changing care needs. Their signature dining program and the adaptive Sagora Pathways system help the experience feel thoughtful instead of one-size-fits-all.

Another thing I appreciate is the mix of spacious assisted living layouts and the rare outdoor pool, which gives the property a more relaxed feel. The Castle Hills location also makes outings and family visits more convenient.

The main downside is the size of the memory care studios. At 235 square feet, they may feel tight for seniors who are used to more personal space.

Still, the 24/7 oversight and individualized care plans make this a reassuring choice for families dealing with memory-related changes.

Pros

  • 24/7 supervision and emergency response
  • Comprehensive hands-off living and housekeeping
  • High-end community amenities like a salon
  • Evolving individualized care plans
  • Prime location in Castle Hills

Cons

  • Fixed transportation scheduling
  • Small memory care quarters

So kind to my mother

Everyone here at Adante Assisted Living has been so kind to my mother! She is 101 and has memory issues, but we didn’t feel she needed memory care at this time. Because they will tailor the level of care she needs, this has been right for her and for us. It’s safe and comfortable, which has resulted in her becoming much more mobile and physically active. The staff know her and her habits well and have been very accommodating. I highly recommend Adante Assisted Living!

Very nice and clean assisted living home

Our family moved our parents into Adante Assisted Living approximately 4 years ago. Adante is a very nice and clean assisted living home. We are very pleased with the respect and care the staff shows to their residents. The staff is very professional and friendly.

3. Premier Assisted Living Residential Care Home

Website: https://premieralfs.com/

Address: 1802 Poppy Peak St

Contact: (210) 932-0000

Hours: Available 24/7

Premier Assisted Living feels very different from a large senior campus. The nurse-led ownership and one-to-three caregiver ratio give it a much more personal, closely monitored feel from the start.

I spoke with a family who moved their father here, and they kept praising the health advocacy and the peaceful wooded setting where deer sometimes wander through.

Because it runs more like a six-bed residence than a commercial facility, the care feels highly individualized, and infection control is easier to manage.

The tradeoff is availability. With such a small setup, families may run into a waitlist, and tours are by appointment only. Still, if you can get in, the home-style support and smoother downsizing transition make this place stand out.

Pros

  • Elite individualized attention and care
  • Enhanced infection control measures
  • Nurse-led health advocacy
  • Comprehensive home-style services
  • Easier transition to a smaller home

Cons

  • High likelihood of a waitlist
  • Strict appointment-only tour policy

An assisted living like no other

This was an assisted living like no other! The care was amazing. Moved my grandma from a large community where she was not getting the care she needed and the caregivers and staff at premier treated her like family. I am forever grateful!

A great place, good loving caregivers

I have visited Premier assisted living in the last 12 months, and as recently as of last week. It is a great place, good loving caregivers, good care. I would highly recommend this small assisted living residential care home to anyone looking for placement. It is lovely- Christina

4. Landon Ridge Alamo Ranch Assisted Living & Memory Care

Website: https://www.alamoranchassistedliving.com/

Address: 11349 Alamo Ranch Pkwy

Contact: (210) 796-1574

Hours: Available 24/7

Landon Ridge Alamo Ranch stands out for pairing memory support with amenities that keep daily life engaging. The Sagora Pathways program, spacious apartment layouts, and private kitchenettes make the community feel more livable than purely clinical.

What I found especially helpful was the range of hobby spaces, including a full movie theater and an on-site greenhouse. That kind of setup can make a real difference for seniors who still want a fuller routine instead of spending most of the day in their rooms.

That said, the biggest drawback is the size of the campus. Because the ranch-style layout spreads things out, residents with limited mobility may find the longer walks to common areas tiring.

For active seniors, though, the chef-prepared meals, strong wellness focus, and pet-friendly environment add a lot of appeal.

Pros

  • Round-the-clock security and assistance
  • Chef-prepared no-cook lifestyle
  • Total maintenance-free housekeeping
  • Strong focus on health and wellness
  • Pet-friendly communal spaces

Cons

  • Fixed scheduled transportation
  • Extensive campus requires longer walks

Lots of fun activities on the schedule

On my recent visit to Landon Ridge to spend time with my mom, the staff was excellent and there were lots of fun activities on the schedule including a performance by a talented Elvis impersonator. The addition of Chef Christian in the dining room has brought huge improvements … great food, excellent service, and an upbeat atmosphere. Keep up the great work!

High quality of service and attentiveness

My 81 yr old mother just moved in this weekend and we couldn’t be more impressed with the high quality of service and attentiveness to her move in. They made her move such a success and followup multiple times throughout the process. She hasn’t attended one of the multitude of entertainment and social events yet, but there is plenty to keep her busy and engaged. Highly recommend you check them out. Shout out to Jacob Cantu – he is a great asset to Landon Ridge.

5. The Waterford at Westover Hills

the-waterford-at-westover-hills

Website: https://www.sonidaseniorliving.com/community/the-waterford-at-westover/

Address: 4315 Rogers Rd

Contact: (726) 223-2368

Hours: Available 24/7

The Waterford at Westover Hills is a good fit for families who don’t want to pay for services they may not use right away. Its flexible, a la carte approach to elder care services means you can tailor support instead of jumping straight into a heavier package.

I was also glad to see how close it is to the medical district. That makes it easier to coordinate specialist visits or a routine health screening without turning every appointment into a long outing.

The one real challenge is budgeting over time. Because support is added in tiers, costs can shift as needs change, and the community relies on scheduled shuttles for transportation.

Even with that, the safety-minded apartment design, social dining, and 24/7 caregiving make it a strong choice for seniors who want help without giving up independence.

Pros

  • 24/7 professional caregiver support
  • Full household freedom and laundry
  • Social restaurant-style dining
  • Coordinated medical appointments
  • All-inclusive base utility package

Cons

  • Tiered pricing complicates budgeting
  • Relies on scheduled community shuttles

Wonderful staff and welcoming residents

Great place. Beautiful location. Wonderful staff. Welcoming residents. There are so many excellent items about this place. If I had to narrow it down to one, it would be the staff and care that they have for people living there.

Well taken care of there

I know that my father, who is a resident at the Waterford at Westover Hills, is well taken care of there. The medical staff are very attentive to his care. He doesn’t need much assistance but they pay attention to any issues that might be of concern. I am grateful for all the staff. They treat my father with dignity and respect. They are friendly, compassionate and caring. I can’t thank them enough for all they do.
