1. Whataburger

Address: 412 E Commerce St

Contact: (210) 228-0710

Hours: Available 24/7

Nothing hits the spot quite like a made-to-order burger layered exactly to your specifications. Whataburger is an iconic joint that builds its menu around heavily customizable meals using fresh, never-frozen beef that truly fills two hands.

The familiar orange-and-white stripes in their logo practically signal comfort for anyone needing a savory, late-night fix.

Grabbing a patty melt at two in the morning after a long shift is a personal ritual of mine, and the bold flavors here always satisfy. They rotate exciting, limited-time items regularly to keep the menu highly engaging for returning fans.

While the community vibe and continuous operating hours are fantastic, the drive-thru lines occasionally move more slowly than anticipated. I was also frustrated by occasional mix-ups with my specific ingredient requests during peak rushes.

Pros

  • Local San Antonio headquarters
  • 24-hour service availability
  • Wide menu variety, including breakfast
  • Highly customizable orders
  • Strong community engagement

Cons

  • Occasional order accuracy issues
  • Wait times despite advance ordering

Great fast food

I don’t think I will ever give Whataburger less than 5 stars. It’s really a treasure of Texas culture. This one was very slick and smack in the middle of the city. It did seem like they were understaffed so the order line took forever. The food came out fast however. Great fast food. No complaints.

Excellent Job

Holy HOT food! Excellent job yall. 4 fellow OPs here. We visited around midnight, hungry for some Breakfast and boy did yall deliver. My potato egg and cheese “taco” was the hottest and freshest BK I’ve had in a while. Its currently the next day and I am still thinking g about that meal.

2. Culver’s

Website: https://www.culvers.com/restaurants/san-antonio

Address: 5836 DeZavala Rd

Contact: (210) 558-9797

Hours: Monday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 10:30 PM

Sinking your teeth into a perfectly seared, fresh beef butter burger is a uniquely satisfying experience. Culver’s elevates the quick-service landscape by preparing every savory meal strictly to order.

They also source ingredients from family farms, which gives their menu a distinctive, premium edge over standard drive-thrus.

Fans flock to this spot for regional specialties like crispy cheese curds and the highly anticipated rotating daily custard flavors.

They also come for the attentive staff, who consistently delivers a friendly, welcoming dining room atmosphere for families looking to sit down and relax.

Because every single patty hits the grill only after you pay, expect a noticeably longer wait time. Customers also pay a slight premium for these farm-fresh ingredients, which isn’t ideal for those just wanting a cheap meal.

Pros

  • Freshly cooked-to-order meals
  • High customer satisfaction scores
  • Friendly and attentive staff
  • Diverse menu beyond typical burgers
  • Consistent food quality

Cons

  • Slower service
  • Higher prices than standard chains

Best Item On The Menu

This place is always great! Great food! Great service! Great atmosphere.  Family friendly. We always love coming to Culver’s when we’re in San Antonio. We highly recommend this place. The butter burger deluxe is the best item on the menu!! But it’s not the only good thing here. We highly recommend the Cod fish filets, the chicken tenders, and the mushroom Swiss burger. You can’t go wrong with any of those items. And don’t forget their delicious crispy fries.

Crazy Fast And Fresh

Super clean, greeted immediately. Was a big menu with different things to choose from. Pretzel bun on pub burger was delicious but the burger itself was amazing. The cheese curds were good by themselves and better with the sauce. The cranberry salad was really good. Staff were super helpful and crazy fast. Food was fresh.

3. Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers

Website: https://locations.raisingcanes.com/tx/san-antonio/19110-stone-oak-parkway

Address: 19110 Stone Oak Pkwy

Contact: (210) 499-0011

Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 AM; Friday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 AM

Focusing entirely on a single, perfected main dish allows a restaurant to deliver remarkable consistency.

That’s why Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers dedicates its entire operation to hand-battered, cooked-to-order chicken fingers paired with their highly guarded signature dipping sauce.

Dipping that buttery Texas toast into the tangy sauce is an experience I look forward to on busy weeknights. The radically streamlined menu keeps the kitchen moving at an impressively rapid pace for hungry commuters.

However, recent visits suggest the actual size of the chicken tenders has noticeably shrunk, making the combo feel slightly less valuable.

The dining room also gets incredibly loud during the late evening rush, making a dine-in experience slightly frustrating.

Pros

  • Fast and efficient drive-thru
  • Hot, cooked-to-order chicken
  • High consistency across locations
  • Straightforward ordering process

Cons

  • Reduced chicken and fry portions
  • Extremely loud dining room

Fresh And Hot

The fries were hot and crispy, not soggy at all, with great texture and seasoning. The Texas toast was really good — buttery, well toasted, and soft on the inside. The chicken tenders were hot and juicy, with a crispy outside and tender meat inside. The Coke was ice cold and refreshing, which paired perfectly with the meal. Everything came out fresh and hot.

Delicious And Crunchy

Went through the drive through and got the kids chicken fingers for the grandkids.  This chicken is delicious, crunchiness on the outside and juicy on the inside.  Real meat, not glued together meat.  The canes sauce, I really liked it.  Kind of a twist on ketchup and mayo, with a little BBQ sauce flavor mixed in.  The kids ate it up. It was priced well, with a small drink and fries.  The woman who took my order in person at the drive through was super sweet and personable.

4. In-N-Out Burger

Website: https://locations.in-n-out.com/298

Address: 10918 Culebra Rd

Contact: 1-800-786-1000

Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10:30 AM – 1:00 AM; Friday – Saturday, 10:30 AM – 1:30 AM

In-N-Out Burger aggressively protects its reputation by utilizing fresh ingredients and maintaining a rigidly focused, cooked-to-order menu.

Their refusal to freeze beef or use microwaves results in a highly consistent, classic burger profile. This simplicity often yields the most reliable and delicious results in the culinary world.

I love their famous secret menu, adding a fun layer to a fast-food meal. I also appreciated that the company intentionally limits franchise expansion to maintain tight quality control across all existing local fast food spots.

Navigating the drive-thru often requires significant patience, though. This is due to constant overcrowding and substantial wait times during lunch hours.

The fresh-cut fries also frequently draw criticism for arriving slightly stale.

Pros

  • Never-frozen, fresh ingredients
  • Outstanding customer loyalty
  • Affordable, budget-friendly pricing
  • Simple and consistent menu

Cons

  • Constant overcrowding and lines
  • Fries frequently lack freshness

Really Good Food

Anyone up for a burger?! This joint from Cali is always busy ! Their 50s style burger in a box tray yum, I can’t complain. Their  service and food is really good ! The Nice gentleman taking my order was very friendly  –  with his 1950s fashion duds wink! 😉

If you haven’t tried In and Out… believe me you’re In and Out through the drive thru. Fast service!  💨 ( The menu is decent, simple to order.)

Impressively Fast Service

In-N-Out always hits the spot, and their Protein Style burger is my go-to. The lettuce wrap is fresh and crisp, making the burger feel lighter without losing any of that classic flavor. The staff is always friendly, and the service is impressively fast—even when the line looks long, they move it right along. A great place for a quick, tasty bite without the guilt.

5. Burger Boy

Website: https://burgerboy.com/

Address: 2323 N St Mary’s St

Contact: (210) 735-1955

Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10:30 AM – 12:00 AM; Friday – Saturday, 10:30 AM – 1:00 AM

Stepping up to a traditional, retro-style counter brings a comforting wave of nostalgia to the dining experience. Burger Boy delivers a quintessential, no-frills fast food concept anchored by freshly cooked patties and iconic regional treats.

They avoid trendy gimmicks, which allows them to preserve an unchanged, highly efficient menu that locals absolutely adore.

The must-order here is their signature crinkle-cut fries, which pair beautifully with their straightforward, old-fashioned sandwiches. They easily cater to late-night crowds seeking budget-friendly combo meals without the corporate chain atmosphere.

Despite the charming vintage vibe, the relatively thin beef patties sometimes suffer from a noticeable lack of seasoning. There’s also an unbalanced bun-to-patty ratio, which results in a very dry and disappointing bite.

Pros

  • Nostalgic, classic burger experience
  • Highly affordable value meals
  • Extended late-night operating hours
  • Fresh, made-to-order patties
  • Strong local accessibility

Cons

  • Under-seasoned and dry beef
  • Unbalanced bun-to-patty ratio

Juicy Burger

In my opinion one of the top burger spots in San angioino. Luckily they’re a chain so the results elsewhere should be just as consistent. In terms of value and quality you cannot beat this. The burger was juicy. Fries were crispy and fluffy on the inside. The shake was thick and not too sweet. Could not have asked for a better burger. Will always comeback and grab burger boy before I leave town.

Always Fresh And Hot

Burger Boy on St. Mary’s Street in San Antonio is the only Burger Boy I recommend. The food is always fresh and hot, delicious and cooked well. Good service and Great food. I recommend this place to everyone. You won’t be disappointed.
