We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Comprehensive Care Options: I examined the continuum of care each community provides to its residents. A smooth transition between independent living, assisted living, and memory care is crucial for long-term peace of mind.

Lifestyle and Amenities: My evaluation prioritized communities that offer engaging social calendars and robust wellness programs. It is important that residents have access to high-quality dining, fitness classes, and recreational spaces.

Financial Transparency: I gave high marks to facilities that clearly outline their monthly fees and the services included. Families need straightforward pricing models without hidden costs to make informed budgetary decisions.

Safety and Maintenance: A major factor was how well each campus handles emergency response and daily upkeep. I favored places that bundle housekeeping, transportation, and round-the-clock support to create a truly hassle-free environment.

Moving into a senior living community is a big step for any family. You need a place that offers dignity and comfort while keeping a fun lifestyle. Active seniors and caring family members both know that finding the right fit is very important.

Hours: Available 24/7

Villa de San Antonio is a great choice if you want a senior living community that feels like a real home. Because the facility is operated by a family-run company, it prioritizes personal values over corporate goals.

They make things easy to understand by providing a brochure that clearly lists every cost. If faith is important to you, the on-site chapel offers daily Catholic Masses and weekly services for other denominations.

The staff is also highly trained to provide each resident with the specific help they need.

Just keep in mind that this is a private-pay community. They don’t accept financial assistance from Medicare or Medicaid, so you should plan your budget accordingly.

For many families, the personal touch and family-oriented management make this community a top-tier assisted living option in the area.

Pros

  • Seamless care transitions
  • Flexible all-day dining
  • Real-time family engagement app
  • Active social and wellness facilities

Cons

  • No Medicare or Medicaid accepted
  • Lacks on-site skilled nursing

They are living the good life here!
This community for seniors is like none other I have visited. It is constantly full of life. People are having fun every time I come by. The folks who live here enjoy the activities and are warm and welcoming. They are living the good life here! Everyone raves about the food. What a wonderful environment to spend your golden years.

Even the food is excellent! I would have no concerns or doubts about moving my own family here. Keep up the great work TEAM!

2. The Waterford on Huebner

Hours: Available 24/7

If you’re looking for a highly active, pet-friendly environment, The Waterford on Huebner is a fantastic option.

When a close friend of mine moved here last year, I immediately noticed the warm presence of the live-in community dogs. These pets roam the campus, providing companionship to everyone.

The community also places a strong emphasis on cognitive wellness, offering a specialized brain fitness program. This helps keep residents mentally sharp alongside their standard classes.

Another major perk is the proximity to the San Antonio Medical Center, which provides quick access to top hospitals. Your monthly rent even includes three full meals and snacks every day.

Keep in mind that this campus is dedicated entirely to independent living. This means they do not provide on-site medical assistance, so residents must coordinate with outside home health care services if needed.

Pros

  • Maintenance-free living
  • Built-in safety features
  • Complimentary local transportation
  • Diverse social calendar

Cons

  • No direct medical care
  • Lacks higher care tiers

Customer Reviews:

It’s been smooth sailing
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Waterford this weekend!! My aunt has been living here for a few months and they’ve made great updates in a short time! It was great when we moved her in, and since then it’s been smooth sailing. Highly recommend!

The staff is amazing and very tentative
The Waterford on Huebner is a great place to spend time at. The staff is amazing and very tentative to the residents needs. The activity director has a very structured event calendar for everyday and every month. Great job to the Waterford on Huebner team.

3. Forest Oak Landing

Address: 8700 Post Oak Ln

Contact: (210) 829-7357

Hours: Available 24/7

Seniors who want to maintain a strong sense of purpose will feel right at home at Forest Oak Landing. They have an award-winning lifestyle program that relies on Montessori-inspired methods to support memory and resident inclusion.

Instead of standard tests, they use a specialized tool from the Center for Applied Research in Dementia to find each person’s unique strengths.

They also bring specialists, such as physicians and audiologists, directly to campus. This makes it much easier to manage your health without needing extra trips to outside offices.

Residents can even take on social roles here, like working the front desk, to stay active in the community.

The main drawback is the lack of a dedicated memory care wing. Because of this, residents with advanced cognitive decline may eventually need to move to a different facility.

Pros

  • Excellent care continuity
  • Advanced therapeutic support
  • Round-the-clock professional assistance
  • Resort-style amenities

Cons

  • No dedicated memory care
  • Higher entry pricing

Address: 2702 Cembalo Blvd

Contact: (210) 405-9385

Hours: Available 24/7

Adante Independent Living offers a beautiful and luxurious environment for retirees. During a tour of the property, the vacation-style atmosphere really stands out.

Residents can enjoy an outdoor swimming pool, a theater, and a private clubhouse right on the campus. The living spaces are actually spacious cottages with private garages, so you get the comfort of a traditional home.

Every cottage includes a full kitchen, but you can also visit the main dining hall for chef-prepared meals. There are plenty of fun social areas to explore, including a craft room and a full salon.

One important thing to notice is that the cottages are detached from the central hub. This means you have to walk outdoors to reach the dining areas.

While this provides great privacy, it can be a bit difficult when it is raining outside.

Pros

  • Expansive cottage floor plans
  • Hassle-free weekly maintenance
  • All-inclusive utilities
  • Integrated wellness programs

Cons

  • Limited intensive health support
  • Outdoor travel required for amenities

Customer Reviews:

Best place anyone would ever want
We moved to the Adante cottages seven years ago and have loved it here. We have wonderful neighbors who are very active and helpful. The staff is excellent, caring, and attempts to meet our needs and provide the best of entertainment and activities. The staff works within their limitations to make our lives fulfilling and interesting. We are free to initiate activities if a need is there. Best place anyone would every want.

We are so happy here
My dad moved in after my mom passed away. He has great food, plenty of men and women to talk to, and a lovely apartment with a balcony view of San Antonio. He has dinner with new friends, enjoys the music and company at “Thirsty Thursdays”, and uses the gym and on-site PT. We are so happy here.

5. Discovery Village Dominion

Website: https://discoveryvillagedominion.seniorlivingnearme.com/

Address: 6870 Heuermann Rd

Contact: (210) 840-8000 | (210) 436-1669 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Moving into senior living can be stressful, but Discovery Village Dominion offers great peace of mind. They offer a rare 90-day satisfaction guarantee, meaning you get a full refund of your community fee if you are not happy.

Veterans receive extra support here because the leadership team helps them secure benefits and significant rent savings. If you need specialized help, their memory care program is nationally recognized for its research-based methods.

The daily lifestyle here is also very convenient because a dedicated concierge handles your reservations and dry cleaning.

While they offer excellent assisted living and memory care, they do not provide full skilled nursing on-site. This means that if a resident needs constant medical supervision, they would eventually have to move to an advanced care facility.

Still, Discovery Village is a very supportive and welcoming community.

Pros

  • Aging in place capability
  • High-end resort amenities
  • Free scheduled transportation
  • Comprehensive housekeeping services

Cons

  • No on-site skilled nursing
  • Requires relocation for clinical care
