Clear the clutter with the 5 best storage spaces in San Antonio

best-storage-space-san-antonio
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Security: I looked for cameras, gated access, and clear policies that help protect stored belongings.

Accessibility: I checked gate hours and layout, since easy loading can save a lot of stress on move-in day.

Climate Control: I prioritized facilities that help protect furniture, electronics, and other items from Texas heat.

Lease Flexibility: I favored simple month-to-month options and move-in support that fit changing plans.

Running out of room at home can make every box feel like one too many.

Maybe you’re between apartments, clearing space before a renovation, or trying to keep business inventory out of your garage. A good storage unit gives you breathing room without making access complicated.

When I searched for the best storage space in San Antonio for this guide, I focused on security and easy access. I also looked at contract flexibility and move-in help that actually makes the day less stressful.

Also, for bigger moves, truck rentals can make hauling furniture into a unit easier. If you need something that stays in your driveway while you pack, storage containers may be worth comparing, too.

How much does storage space cost in San Antonio?

Storage space in San Antonio usually costs $20 to more than $200 per month, depending mostly on unit size and climate control.

Unit SizeDimensionsAverage Monthly Price
Small5′ x 5′ to 5′ x 10′$20 – $50
Medium10′ x 10′ to 10′ x 15′$50 – $100
Large10′ x 20′ to 10′ x 30′$100 – $200+

1. Extra Space Storage

extra-space-storage

Website: extraspace.com

Address: 3602 Wurzbach Rd

Contact: New customers: (877) 353-7022 | Current customers: (210) 851-8105

Hours: Access: Daily 6:00 AM-10:00 PM | Office: Mon, Wed-Fri 9:30 AM-6:00 PM; Sat 9:00 AM-5:30 PM

Climate control is the big reason Extra Space Storage works well for people storing furniture or electronics they don’t want sitting in the Texas heat.

The Wurzbach Road layout also makes move-in easier because some units have drive-up access, so you can unload heavy items without dragging everything through long hallways.

I also like that the month-to-month setup keeps things flexible when your move-out date is uncertain.

If you’re moving a full room of furniture, a rental truck can make the loading day feel much easier.

The catch is the lock requirement. You may need to buy their specific cylinder lock for the unit, even if you already own a sturdy padlock.

Pros

  • Climate-controlled units available
  • Drive-up access for easier loading
  • Month-to-month leasing
  • Extended daily access hours

Cons

  • Mandatory cylinder lock required

Great Service! Lyle helped me get my app corrected and assisted me with the code. He also walked all the way to my unit and helped me get into my storage space. Thanks Lyle! 🙂 I really appreciate you taking the time and for being so patient with me.

2. Store Space Self Storage

store-space-self-storage

Website: storespace.com

Address: 1301 E Commerce St

Contact: 210-361-0400

Hours: Access: Daily 6:00 AM-10:00 PM | Office: Daily 9:00 AM-5:30 PM

Renting quickly is where Store Space Self Storage feels especially useful. Their Speed-e-Rent system lets you reserve a unit online, sign the rental agreement, and move in without spending extra time at the counter.

That can be a real relief when you’re trying to clear space before a move or renovation.

The facility also sells boxes and tape in the office, which helps when packing supplies run short.

Month-to-month rentals keep the commitment manageable if you only need a unit for a temporary situation.

The main downside is access time. Gate entry ends at 10:00 PM, so this isn’t the best fit if you regularly need late-night access after work.

Pros

  • Fully digital rental process
  • Climate-controlled spaces available
  • Packing supplies sold on-site
  • Month-to-month contracts

Cons

  • No 24-hour gate access

Very helpful and friendly

Sammi was very helpful and friendly. She didn’t treat me as though I was stupid when I couldn’t find my unit. Instead she just smiled and showed me where I needed to be. Thank you.

3. Public Storage

public-storage

Website: publicstorage.com

Address: 1425 Austin Highway

Contact: 210-782-8439 | 833-814-3592

Hours: Daily 6:00 AM-9:00 PM

Vehicle storage is the biggest advantage at Public Storage, especially if you need room for a car, trailer, or small boat between trips.

The online rental system also keeps the move-in process simple because you can reserve space before driving over with your belongings.

I like that the property layout gives larger vehicles enough room to maneuver, which matters when you’re already stressed about loading day. Their month-to-month leases also work well for short-term projects, especially when a fixed lease would feel too risky.

The catch is the insurance requirement. You need an active storage insurance policy before move-in, so there’s one more step to handle before you can settle in.

Pros

  • Vehicle storage available
  • Contactless online rentals
  • Drive-up access options
  • Flexible month-to-month leases

Cons

  • Mandatory storage insurance

4. Ideal Storage – San Antonio

ideal-storage-san-antonio

Website: idealstorage.com

Address: 16242 San Pedro Avenue

Contact: (210) 494-1292

Hours: Office by appointment: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; Sat 10:00 AM-4:00 PM | Gate: Daily 6:00 AM-9:00 PM

Free moving-truck access is what makes Ideal Storage – San Antonio stand out for anyone trying to avoid extra rental costs. New tenants can use a 15-foot truck with a ramp and dolly, which can make a furniture-heavy move feel less exhausting.

The facility also includes StorageDefender smart monitoring, so you can receive activity alerts tied to your unit. I also like that routine pest control is part of the property upkeep, especially for long-term storage, where you’re not checking your items every week.

The main catch is the administrative fee. You should expect an upfront charge during digital checkout that is separate from the monthly rental price shown online.

Pros

  • Free moving truck for new tenants
  • Smart activity alerts available
  • Routine pest control measures
  • Free lock included with rental

Cons

  • Mandatory administrative fee

Customer Review:

Solid Reliability

You can’t beat the onsite no fluff or frills in person management and local ownership. As for storage so far they have kept me happy for multiple years and multiple units. They are always maintained never neglected the property grounds. Very little to go wrong with high security system without the hassles of modern day technology locks but real solid lock systems. No need for WiFi junk or digital cell phone to access. Solid Reliability. Raw photo not edited clean facility

5. SmartStop Self Storage

smartstop-self-storage

Website: smartstopselfstorage.com

Address: 8239 Broadway St

Contact: (210) 439-5977

Hours: Mon-Fri 9:30 AM-6:00 PM | Sat 9:00 AM-4:00 PM | Sun 10:00 AM-2:00 PM

Solar-powered storage gives SmartStop Self Storage a different edge if you like companies with more environmentally mindful operations.

The Broadway Street facility also offers climate-controlled spaces and exterior drive-up units, so it can work for both household overflow and small business inventory.

I like that they sell packing supplies on-site because it saves a separate errand when you realize you’re short on boxes.

If you need something that can sit at your home while you load, a portable container may be worth comparing before choosing a fixed unit.

The catch is sizing. Their listed unit dimensions are estimates, so you should inspect the space before assuming bulky furniture will fit.

Pros

  • Solar-powered facility
  • Climate-controlled units available
  • Drive-up spaces for easy loading
  • On-site packing supplies

Cons

  • Unit sizes are estimated so inspection is needed for bulky items
