See Clearly: The 5 Best Optical Shops in San Antonio

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Range of Products and Services: I looked for shops that pair full eye exams with a wide range of glasses and specialty eyewear. Handling both testing and frame fitting in one spot saves you real time.

Professional Expertise: I also weighed the qualifications and hands-on experience of each optometrist. Clinics with knowledgeable pros who can manage tricky vision issues scored higher with me.

Location and Accessibility: I also checked how close each shop sits to key neighborhoods and how easy booking is. Good vision care should fit into a busy workweek without much fuss.

Pricing and Value: I paid attention to clear pricing for exams and lenses too. Shops that lay out costs upfront and offer options for different budgets earned more points.

Customer Experience and Reviews: I leaned on steady customer feedback about friendly staff and a welcoming vibe. A warm setting makes picking new eyewear feel a lot less intimidating.

Taking care of your vision should not feel like a stressful errand, especially when all you need is a new pair of glasses or an updated prescription.

Blurry vision and worn-out lenses can quickly become everyday frustrations, which is why choosing the right optical shop matters. A good provider offers thorough eye exams, quality eyewear, and expert guidance.

If your needs go beyond new frames, many people also visit one of San Antonio’s top eye clinics for more specialized care.

To help narrow the options, I looked into the most trusted optical shops in San Antonio. Here are the best places to update your eyewear and keep your vision clear.

1. San Antonio Eyeworks

san-antonio-eyeworks-logo

Website: saeyeworks.com

Address: 4553 N Loop 1604 W, Suite 1225

Contact: 210 251 2372

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM | Tuesday, Thursday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Walking into San Antonio Eyeworks, you quickly notice their focus on full vision care. They pair advanced diagnostic tech with a lovely lineup of independent designer frames.

I recently stopped by to browse their curated inventory, and the staff was encouraging as they walked me through the lens options.

They also handle specialized needs, with dry eye treatments and a strong myopia (nearsightedness) management program for kids.

The trade-off is that their lean toward premium frame lines pushes the retail price higher. That’s why it helps to set your budget before you fall for a designer pair.

Still, it’s great that they can co-manage laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and cataract surgeries. That makes them a reliable health partner well beyond the frames.

Pros

  • Specialized dry eye treatments
  • Myopia management for children
  • Curated independent frame selection
  • Co-management for LASIK surgeries

Cons

  • Higher price point for retail products

Flawless experience

The experience from start to finish was flawless! I’ve been to other optometrists before and nothing compares to the technology they have. They didn’t have to dilate my pupil with the typical orange dye. They have machines to scan and look at the back of your eye as well as a handheld scanner that measures the pressure within seconds! I was so shocked at how fast and easy the process was and the overall experience was very personable which I truly appreciate and look for when it comes to customer experience. My optician was Cristi and she was great!

Highly recommend

Loved my experience here. From the moment I walked in I felt like a person vs just a number. If you want a more personalized experience highly recommend. Plus state of the art technology- no air puff which was a bonus. The doctor spent her time with me and was extremely informative- telling me things I have never been told in my 20+ years of going to the eye doctor. Kristi was amazing!!

2. Stanton Optical

Website: stantonoptical.com

Address: 25 NE Loop 410 Suite #130

Contact: 210 955 0529

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Fast turnaround on prescription lenses matters, and Stanton Optical delivers with same-day service and a handy on-site lab.

This location runs as a quick, walk-in retail spot, so you can drop in for an eye exam without booking weeks ahead. You’ll also appreciate the huge inventory of over 3,000 frames paired with budget-friendly two-pair pricing.

The main drawback is that the rapid production model often limits choices for complex, customized lens prescriptions. As a result, anyone with a tricky vision need may want to weigh their options carefully.

But if you have a straightforward update and need glasses before a trip, their efficient process is hard to beat. It’s a practical pick when speed and price matter more than a deep custom-lens menu.

Pros

  • On-site eyeglass manufacturing lab
  • Walk-in eye exams accepted
  • Value-focused two-pair pricing
  • Inventory of over 3,000 frames

Cons

  • Limited options for highly specialized lenses

Great service

Shoutout to Stanton Optical for making my visit so easy! From the eye exam to picking out my glasses, everything was quick and professional. The team was patient, answered all my questions, and helped me choose frames that actually fit my style. The deals they offer are a big plus too. I’ll definitely be coming back!

3. LensCrafters

Website: lenscrafters.com

Address: 7400 San Pedro Ave Ste 486

Contact: 210 340 5251

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM | Friday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM | Sunday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

For folks who prefer an established chain, LensCrafters blends full exam capabilities with a broad selection of names like Ray-Ban and Oakley.

They use digital eye exam technology for precise measurements, so your new sunglasses or daily frames fit comfortably.

People after convenient, all-in-one care often value that ease, much like the city’s health screening clinics in San Antonio make wellness simpler.Β

The catch is the mall setting, which means longer waits and heavier foot traffic during busy weekend hours. For that reason, a weekday visit can make the whole trip smoother.

On the plus side, they accept a wide range of major vision insurance plans, which helps offset the cost of their premium frame inventory. It’s a dependable choice if brand selection and insurance matter most.

Pros

  • Digital eye examination technology
  • Stocks popular designer brands
  • Accepts major vision insurance
  • Custom prescription sunglasses available

Cons

  • Longer wait times during peak hours

Website: sanantonioglasses.com

Address: 6915 S Zarzamora St #107

Contact: 210 446 0637 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM

Community-focused care goes a long way, and Optica 20 20 San Antonio delivers it well. The shop runs as an independent, bilingual vision center serving English and Spanish speakers alike.

A family member of mine recently visited for an adjustment and felt fully supported by the staff, who gave complete consultations in Spanish.

The team runs an in-house lab to turn around budget-friendly frame packages fast, and they handle repairs right in the clinic.

The downside is that, as a smaller shop, the frame inventory is more limited than the giant walls of options at national chains.

Even so, their warm, budget-minded approach makes the visit worthwhile for anyone who values personal attention.

Pros

  • Bilingual English and Spanish services
  • In-house finishing lab
  • Budget-friendly frame packages
  • Direct repairs handled in-clinic

Cons

  • Limited physical inventory of frames

Highly recommend

5. The Eyeglass Shop

the-eyeglass-shop-logo

Website: opticalsanantonio.com

Address: 2526 Nacogdoches Road

Contact: 210 828 1321

Hours: Monday to Tuesday, Thursday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Want to elevate your daily look? The Eyeglass Shop makes it easy by leaning into luxury eyewear collections and personalized frame styling consultations.

They cater to a style-conscious crowd with exclusive brands like Cartier and Lindberg, so you leave with a genuinely striking accessory.

The staff uses precise digital measuring tools for an accurate lens fit, and they specialize in complex progressive lenses built from high-index materials.

The catch is that their focus on premium frames narrows the options for anyone after entry-level choices.

So budget-minded shoppers may find the price of admission a little steep here. But if you want a tailored styling appointment and don’t mind paying for top-tier craftsmanship, this spot offers a calm, refined experience.

Pros

  • Carries exclusive luxury brands
  • Personalized styling appointments
  • Digital measuring tools for fitting
  • Specializes in complex progressive lenses

Cons

  • Restricts options for budget-conscious buyers

Highly recommend using their services

I highly recommend using their services.  I encountered a little problem with the lens prescription as delivered but they were very helpful in resolving the problem. I also appreciate the great service by the optician, Ariel, who took care of me.  She looked into all options to provide me with everything I needed to make decisions and she did it with a great attitude.
