Flavor and Texture: We evaluated the crunch of the batter and the flakiness of the fish to ensure every bite hits the right notes. A truly excellent dish requires a delicate balance of seasoning and fresh ingredients.

Portion Sizes: Hungry diners expect substantial meals that satisfy large appetites without breaking the bank. We looked for establishments that serve generous amounts of both protein and hearty side items.

Dining Atmosphere: The environment plays a huge role in enjoying a relaxing meal, whether you are dining with kids or meeting friends. We prioritized locations that offer welcoming spaces and engaging visual elements.

Value for Money: We weighed the quality and quantity of the food against the menu price to determine the overall economic value. Establishments needed to provide a memorable culinary experience that justifies their specific price points.

Website: https://fishcitygrill.com/

Address: 1907 Nacogdoches Rd

Contact: (210) 267-1724

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Fish City Grill strictly avoids formal dining rules, opting instead to cook fresh, scratch-made coastal comfort food in a highly relaxed environment.

Tucking into a plate of beer-battered cod at this welcoming neighborhood spot instantly satisfies those deep-fried cravings!

Their menu is constantly updated with daily chalkboard specials that highlight unique catches and bold flavor profiles.

During my recent visit, the staff’s genuine kindness truly reflected their internal “No Schmucks” policy, making me feel like a regular on day one.

I even tested their “Love ‘Em or Buy ‘Em” guarantee on the signature Oyster Nachos, and they absolutely delivered on taste.

While the food hits the mark, diners should note that swapping out standard sides for a house salad or soup incurs an additional surcharge. Keep that in mind when customizing your meal, though the crispy fish alone is well worth the trip.

Pros

  • Authentic beer-battered cod preparation
  • Dedicated focus on Southern hospitality
  • Scratch-made and fresh daily recipes
  • Highly customizable pick-and-choose combos

Cons

  • Extra charges for side item substitutions
  • Environment may be too casual for some

Customer Reviews

the fish and chips hit the spot

It was our first time dining in and Eric made us feel so invited and taken care of! He recommended the sampler appetizer and brought us the welcome wagon which was a taste of all four soups they offer. I cannot say enough how delicious all the food was and the service was timely and kind! The music selection was calm and nostalgic, while the atmosphere was well lit but not overwhelming. The blackened trout was delicious and the fish and chips hit the spot. 10/10 will return again, thank you Eric!

try the fish and chips!

It was our first visit after reading about Fish City Grille’s excellent fish and chips and the reviews were right! The fish and chips were fresh and tasty! The team here clearly cares and they must have a management team that cares. The food came fast, hot, and fresh. The drinks stayed topped off, and the restaurant is comfortable and welcoming, just like the entire staff. Well done and try the fish and chips!

Wherever you go you can find an Irish Pub applies to finding this wonderful Irish Pub in San Antonio, Texas. Guinness on tap, delicious Fish and chips and then finished off with a tasty bread pudding for dessert. Great atmosphere with attentive service. Highly recommend!

This place was fantastic. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the steak sandwich. I ate all THREE pieces of fish and nearly all the fries. Staff members were excellent and very personable. We will definitely be coming back.

Customer Reviews

We traveled from Dallas and found this spot close to our daughter’s home. I had the portobello mushroom hoagie and it was AMAZING. My husband had the fish and chips and it was definitely a BIG MAN portion. We also brought our dog and ate outside. The service was outstanding, the owners were super friendly and we will be back to try other menu items.🐾

What an amazing gem! Made a reservation for 8 and the table was ready upon arrival. Service was impeccable…fast and very thorough.  Their fish and chips was DELICIOUS with an amazing tarter sauce. Their fried mushrooms were a hit and the drinks are on point, highly recommend visiting!

Customer Reviews

Chose this for lunch on Christmas Eve and very glad we did. Sat inside in the cool as this weather is ridiculously hot for December! Our server Christian was a gem, very friendly, knowledgeable and a good sense of humor. My fried shrimp was the best I’ve had in a long time and the sauces were good. My husband had fish and chips with fresh pollock filets which made him very happy! Highly recommend for good food and fun!

We ate lunch on Sunday and then ate dinner on Tuesday. (We liked it so much on Sunday that we decided to eat there again on Tuesday.) On Sunday we dined outside and on Tuesday we dined inside. On both days, I got Shrimper’s Heaven and hubby got Fish and Chips. Our son had Jambalaya and Shrimp Gumbo. Friendly staff, great food, and really good service.

Customer Reviews

We had fish & chips, the tour of Britain sampler, calamari as an appetizer and a couple of drinks. All was very good, but the shepherd’s pie was a bit heavy on cumin (I think that’s what it was), so I wasn’t crazy about that. Drinks and service also very good.

The calamari appetizer was good. Kids enjoyed playing the provided connect 4 while having their lunch – chicken tenders and grilled cheese sandwich. The tour of Britain was a good meal – fish and chips were a delight. The pork schnitzel was delicious.

Our server, Teddy, provided great service. Thank you.
