1. San Antonio Recovery Center

Website: https://www.sanantoniorecoverycenter.com/

Address: 5806 Culebra Rd

Contact: Phone: (210) 361-5711 |  Fax: (210) 432-3704

Hours: Available 24/7

For those seeking a longer healing process, San Antonio Recovery Center stands out because of its 90-day care model. This approach provides a much stronger foundation for sobriety than the standard 30-day stay.

I recently spoke with someone who sent their son here, and they loved how the smooth transition from detox to residential care kept him on track. The center offers separate programs for men and women to address their unique emotional needs.

They also include family therapy to help heal relationships that have been hurt by addiction.

However, their strict adherence to the 12-step philosophy might not suit people seeking a secular path.

Also, the Culebra location only offers outpatient services. This means that patients needing full residential care will have to move to one of their other locations.

Pros

  • Comprehensive care continuum
  • Customized whole-person plans
  • Integrated family therapy
  • Community-based support options

Cons

  • Strict 12-step philosophy
  • Location-specific service limits

2. New Choices Treatment Centers

Address: 3050 Eisenhauer Rd

Contact: (210) 693-1929 | [email protected]

Hours: Available 24/7

New Choices Treatment Centers offers a different approach by focusing on a person’s existing strengths. Instead of asking clients to admit they are powerless, this facility uses an empowerment model to build confidence.

The center features a soothing design with courtyard apartments to help everyone heal in a natural environment. They provide specialized and affirming care for veterans and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Their team also offers creative therapies, such as gardening and art, to support the recovery process. This is a great choice for those who prefer the SMART Recovery method over traditional spiritual programs.

However, because the facility only has 40 beds, there is often a waitlist during busy times.

You should also know that some recreational activities are held off-site. This might be a bit inconvenient for those who prefer to stay on the main campus at all times.

Pros

  • High sobriety maintenance rate
  • Inclusive specialized programs
  • Extensive holistic therapies
  • Expert multidisciplinary team

Cons

  • Limited residential capacity
  • Off-site amenity dependence

I had a great stay here
I had a great stay here at New choices. We had such a good community that really helped me with my stay and helped in my journey of sobriety. Staff was very helpful and were very easy to talk to when I needed anything! My therapist Matt was amazing. RC’s Sylvia, Stephanie, John, Joe, and Destiny really were always there helping us out with anything and everything!

Discharge staff Parker also made the transition so smooth!

Would recommend!

Website: https://www.infiniterecovery.com/

Address: 3463 Magic Dr, Suite T14

Contact: (844) 407-4003

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM

The primary focus at Infinite Recovery is healing multiple aspects of life through a total wellness model that targets eight different areas.

Since the center is run by people in recovery themselves, the leadership offers a very empathetic service grounded in first-hand experience.

I once helped a client through their admissions process, and having constant access to the outreach team was very helpful during a stressful time. They even provide free transportation from San Antonio to their residential facility.

The center uses a special type of therapy to help residents resolve trauma faster than traditional methods. Their family workshops are also excellent for rebuilding relationships, such as in marriage counseling sessions.

One downside is that the San Antonio location is only an outreach center. This means patients must travel outside the city to stay at the residential treatment facility.

Pros

  • Comprehensive continuum of care
  • Diverse physical and creative therapies
  • Intensive family dynamics workshops
  • Immediate outreach access

Cons

  • Requires travel for residential care
  • Strict high-accountability environment

Customer Reviews:

I always felt safe and in a positive environment
I’m coming up on a year of sobriety and I have much to be grateful for, and a large part of that gratitude goes to Infinite. At each stage of treatment, I always felt safe and in a positive environment. The staff were all incredible, most of which I still hold friendships with. I learned many different coping skills as well as a deep understanding of the 12 program. Infinite helped me transition back into the real world. I now have a job, my family, friends, a house, and I couldn’t have done it without help from Infinite Recovery.

The best choice
If you are looking for drug rehab close to San Antonio area the Infinite Recovery is hands down the best choice. The staff truly care, and are passionate about recovery. The program is intensive but so is addiction, and it is completely life changing. The also offer the full continuum of care including starting with detox all the way through outpatient rehab and sober living so you can feel confident in your sobriety journey. 5+ stars hands down.

4. Alamo Behavioral Health | Drug & Alcohol Rehab

Website: https://alamobh.com/

Address: 8915 New World Dr

Contact: (210) 880-0108 | [email protected]

Hours: Available 24/7

Tackling both addiction and mental health requires a special approach, and Alamo Behavioral Health delivers this through integrated dual-diagnosis care.

For one, they provide a safe medical detox right in San Antonio with targeted nutritional support. This helps individuals stabilize with constant monitoring before transitioning to their customized residential plans.

Secondly, patients also benefit from a smooth transition between different stages of care without the stress of switching environments.

Just like how reliable home health care provides stability, their focus on relapse prevention gives people practical tools for everyday life. They even offer a unique program for couples who want to get sober together.

However, entering the outpatient phase requires a stable and drug-free place to live. This can be a major hurdle for anyone who does not have access to supportive housing during their recovery journey.

Pros

  • Medically supervised stabilization
  • Highly personalized care plans
  • Extended residential stay options
  • Strong relapse prevention focus

Cons

  • Strict outpatient entry requirements
  • Rigid clinical treatment model

5. Blue Heron Recovery

blue-heron-recovery

Website: https://blueheronrecovery.com/

Address: 2015 NE Interstate 410 Loop

Contact: (888) 403-6608 | [email protected]

Hours: Available 24/7

Balancing a career while seeking treatment is entirely possible with Blue Heron Recovery. Here, they offer an evening Intensive Outpatient Program that allows you to keep your job or stay in school while getting the support you need.

The facility also uses a fellowship model to help build long-term social connections and prevent feelings of isolation. Their programs even combine medical methods with holistic practices such as yoga and specialized trauma therapies.

They also have separate groups for men and women to handle their specific life challenges.

Because this is an outpatient program, it requires a very high level of personal commitment since you are not staying in a locked facility. As a result, there’s limited supervision during the day.

This model may not be the best fit for those currently in a high-risk crisis who need constant monitoring.

Pros

  • Seamless care team transitions
  • Advanced trauma-focused therapies
  • In-depth family therapy involvement
  • Highly individualized treatment plans

Cons

  • Requires high personal accountability
  • Limited supervision for severe cases

Customer Reviews:

Beautiful and serene piece of property
Blue Heron is on a beautiful and serene piece of property, it’s a great option for anyone who is struggling with mental health or substance use. The staff genuinely care about each and every client. I’ve personally seen the CEO, Christina, sit down with clients to talk them about what’s going on. Heather does a great job of helping clients walk through steps of getting admitted and makes you feel a part of immediately. All around the staff there is the best!

It’s an amazing recovery society
I have been attending recovery sessions at Blue Heron for a while now, it’s an amazing recovery society and I highly recommend checking this place out if you need help or just want to gain knowledge about recovery. I know we all have different situations in our lives, and Blue Heron recognizes and help with coping skills to suit all your needs. Great place in San Antonio for the help you need.
