Finding the perfect outfit for your next big event doesn’t have to be stressful when you know exactly where to look.
If you’re searching for a reliable costume shop, San Antonio has plenty of fantastic options to explore for Halloween parties or theater productions.
I explored local favorites and hidden gems across the city to help you narrow down the top destinations for your dress-up needs.

1. Starline Costumes

Website: https://starlinecostumes.com
Address: 1286 Bandera Road, 78228
Contact: (210) 435-3535 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Serious theater groups and historical reenactors often struggle to find authentic pieces locally without dealing with massive shipping delays.
Luckily, Starline Costumes maintains an incredible, extensive inventory of theatrical-quality rentals and retail outfits in-store.
They specialize in diverse historical eras, professional-grade makeup lines like Ben Nye, and specialized wigs for year-round styling.
Walking through their aisles honestly feels like stepping back in time. I recently spent an hour just admiring their beautifully detailed Victorian garments.
However, if you’re simply heading to a local birthday party venue, their heavy emphasis on professional theatrical rentals might be a bit overwhelming for your casual dress-up needs.

Rental Option Available
I had a great experience here! Emmitt was super friendly and helpful. Even after some costumes didn’t work out, he kept looking for options and even shared ideas for building my own costume. They offer both rentals and costumes for purchase with tons of options. If you’re looking for something higher quality, the rentals are perfect. Definitely recommend checking them out. 5 stars!

Go-To Place for Costumes
Starline Costumes has been the place to go for costumes for years. They have just about every kid of costume you can think of. Not only do they have costumes to buy, but they also have costumes to rent. They helped me get a Batman costume together to fulfill the wish of a child fighting cancer. Thank you again Starline. You really helped make the day special!

2. Cherry’s Costumes Galore

Website: https://cherryscostumesgalore.com
Address: 9200 Broadway St, 78217
Contact: (210) 685-5337 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday – Friday, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Saturday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Finding garments that fit your unique body perfectly is sometimes a major challenge when dealing with standard off-the-rack sizing.
Cherry’s Costumes Galore tackles this by delivering a fantastic combination of custom-made and ready-to-wear apparel.
They also have convenient in-house alterations alongside highly personalized styling assistance to help you build complete looks from scratch.
Their dedicated team has decades of invaluable experience in theatrical styling, ensuring you get a fully cohesive look suited for both private events and professional stage productions.
One downside to keep in mind is their limited weekend store hours, which might make Saturday shopping extremely difficult for very busy working professionals in the city.
Customer Reviews:
Great Online Gallery
Stumbled across Cherry’s Costumes and wanted to see what options they had online. To say the online gallery did not disappoint would be an understatement! Cherry is a star! You can tell how much she loved what she does! Some of the show stopper photos are her as the cookie monster and a goldfish! Strongly suggest looking through the options.

Lord of the Rings Success
What a good experience. Cherry is a wonderful lady to do business with. She had to run around the shop to piece together a last minute Gandalf the gray costume for my Son. We came in hoping and left as lord of the rings characters. I will be coming back to this store.

3. Atlantis Discovered

Website: https://www.atlantis-discovered.com
Address: 7068 Bandera Road, 78238
Contact: (210) 523-7900
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM | Sunday, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Dedicated cosplayers searching for niche aesthetics often come up completely empty-handed at standard supply shops around the city.
Atlantis Discovered caters to that need. They focus heavily on alternative apparel and accessories, specifically catering to steampunk and gothic aesthetics. They have a unique selection of corsets, jewelry, and hard-to-find subculture clothing.
I recently spoke with a local steampunk enthusiast who told me this shop is their absolute go-to destination for completing highly intricate weekend festival outfits.
However, because their inventory targets specific subcultures, it severely limits your overall options. If you simply need mainstream superhero character outfits for typical annual school holiday events, you won’t find those here.

Shop Full of Treasures
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Always find such treasures, and amazing items!! Anytime we go to a Renaissance Fair or a costume party we always find the perfect items! And the owner is so sweet and nice and will help you find things that match with your theme. DEFINITELY recommend for any dress up occasion! The masks, contacts and wings where found at the shop and one of the coolest funds was the staff, handmade with a real antler on top to tie everything together. (I also got the shirt here but dyed it blue)

Love This Place
I went into this shop not knowing what to expect but found a beautiful piece for my wedding. A tiara matching my dress. I love this place and I’m so sad to see it go because I just found it but I will definitely come back again before the end of the year a few times. Thank you for your wonderful customer service.

4. Party City

Website: https://stores.partycity.com/us/tx/sanantonio/party-store-pc199.html
Address: 5127 NW Loop 410, 78229
Contact: (210) 523-8700
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
When in a rush to find an outfit, frantic last-minute shoppers usually prioritize pure convenience and speed over elaborate tailoring.
Party City understands that need, supplying mass-market, ready-to-wear holiday outfits and seasonal accessories designed for standard sizing. You can walk in and immediately purchase packaged items corresponding to specific seasonal events.
This massive store features standard sizing options for adults and children, complete with matching props designed to coordinate seamlessly with your look.
However, their heavy reliance on mass-produced inventory means a distinct lack of individualized tailoring. This can be a major drawback if you’re attending an upscale event and need professional-grade fabric options.

Hidden Gem
I love this store so much because there’s so many “hidden gems” to make any party so much more fun. They have a lot of helium balloons, candy, party decorations, party games, costumes, and small prices.

5. Amols’ Party and Fiesta Store

Website: https://www.amols.com
Address: 227 Fredericksburg Rd, 78201
Contact: (210) 227-1457 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday – Thursday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM | Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
San Antonio locals truly understand the immense cultural importance of local community events and vibrant celebrations like Fiesta throughout the year.
Amols’ Party and Fiesta Store does too, specializing in festive, culturally themed wearables and localized party supplies. They frequently sell large quantities of colorful novelty hats and accessories to big groups.
They carry a beautifully distinct selection of localized apparel, including culturally specific items such as serapes and traditional dresses for your next gathering.
But the store’s massive inventory heavily favors event-specific accessories rather than full-body immersive character suits. You should definitely look elsewhere if you need a specialized superhero disguise.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of Everything
Really nice place, I found exactly what I was looking for. I had been to some popular party/costume stores and I could not find a kings crown. Well this place has alot of everything. So I highly recommend it. It’s neat, clean and very organized. The people, owners I’m presuming, were very friendly and helpful.

Cute Items
We found what we were looking for and more. There was a lady there that knew all of the skew #’s for the merchandise by memory. We were impressed. We didn’t get her name but I’m sure the owners know who we mean. There was so many cute things and Heritage items that were reasonably priced. The variety was awesome. This is my desk buddy.
