The Best Bakeries in San Antonio: Our Top Picks for Delicious Pastries

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Artisanal Quality and Technique: I prioritized businesses that focus heavily on handmade processes and traditional baking methods.

Scratch-made items using premium ingredients consistently ranked much higher than mass-produced alternatives.

Menu Variety and Versatility: Exploring locations that serve savory morning meals alongside their sweet selections was a major focus for this guide.

A versatile menu ensures customers can enjoy a complete culinary experience in a single visit.

Cultural Authenticity: Celebrating the rich heritage of San Antonio means looking for authentic global techniques and regional culinary staples.

Bakeries honoring traditional Mexican pan dulce or classic European pastry methods received special attention during my search.

Service Limitations and Availability: It’s crucial to understand where a shop might fall short, such as having rigid ordering rules or strict cutoff times.

Identifying these minor hurdles helps you plan your upcoming pastry runs without any unexpected disappointments.

San Antonio’s culinary scene is a vibrant tapestry of flavors. But finding a delicious slice of heaven requires knowing exactly where to look.

When craving fresh sourdough or a decadent dessert, hunting down the best bakery in San Antonio is an adventure your taste buds will certainly thank you for.

I spent the last few weeks exploring neighborhoods to uncover the true artisanal gems hidden throughout the city, finding remarkable local kitchens that will easily satisfy your cravings.

How much do pastries cost in bakeries in San Antonio?

Expect to spend anywhere from $5 for simple breads to $40 or more for scratch-made whole cakes when shopping for daily sourdough loaves or intricate custom desserts.

1. La Panadería Bakery Café

la-panader-a-bakery-cafe

Website: http://www.lapanaderia.com/

Address: 301 E Houston St

Contact: (210) 592-6264

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The magic of La Panadería Bakery Café begins with its special philosophy of merging traditional Mexican baking with techniques from France and Italy.

They use a patient forty-eight-hour fermentation process to create beautifully textured bread. I recently tried their signature Tequila Almond Croissant, and the flaky layers made my entire morning brighter.

But because the team crafts everything in small batches, the most popular items often sell out before the afternoon. You can still grab a hearty, handmade sandwich or a savory lunch platter if you miss the morning rush, though.

Keep in mind that their seasonal menu items are temporary. These special treats vanish quickly once the season ends, so it’s best to visit early to see everything they have to offer.

Pros

  • Traditional 48-hour fermentation baking
  • Multiple accessible San Antonio locations
  • Full breakfast and lunch menus
  • Innovative seasonal pastry updates

Cons

  • Limited daily batches sell out quickly
  • Seasonal menu items are temporary

Worth the hype and and the stand in line
Worth the hype and and the stand in line. Freshly baked great taste and great service. We are walked past them in the evening and saw the bakers hard at work… breakfast toast am proved their hard work of love! The line was long but it moved quickly. Takeout and eat in is the same line so don’t be worried you get your food really quick. They have large variety of hot drinks and cold stuff too. A lot of pastries you can try. We loved every thing we ate

Would definitely go back
Loved the freshly baked conchas. Ham and cheese croissant was flaky and delicious too.

Went there before 9am, there was quite a long queue but the line moved quickly. Staff were busy yet maintained pleasant attitudes.

Coffee was decent, Carajillo yummy.

There were many items on the menu we wanted to try. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.

2. Bakery Lorraine at the Pearl

Website: http://bakerylorraine.com/

Address: 306 Pearl Pkwy Ste 110

Contact: (210) 862-5582

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Kitchen closes at 6:00 PM)

Mastering traditional French techniques is difficult, but Bakery Lorraine executes them flawlessly every day. They use premium local eggs and European butter to create custom macaron towers and savory dishes like Quiche Lorraine.

The vibrant and crisp seasonal macarons instantly catch your eye when you walk into their beautiful Pearl District location. This spot is a dream for anyone who loves cake shops and is planning a lavish wedding or an upscale event.

However, you should know that their custom ordering system is quite rigid. They require a mandatory seventy-two-hour notice for all special orders.

They also have a strict forty-eight-hour cancellation policy that offers very little flexibility. This means it might be hard to get a refund or make changes if you have a last-minute dessert emergency.

Pros

  • Handcrafted using premium European butter
  • Beautiful historic Pearl District location
  • Reliable online custom ordering system
  • Extensive savory French dining options

Cons

  • Mandatory 72-hour notice for custom orders
  • Extremely strict cancellation and refund policy

Customer Reviews:

Bakery Lorraine never disappoints
Bakery Lorraine never disappoints. I’ve visited several different locations and their pastries are always fresh and delicious. Such a cute bakery with friendly staff. Macaroons are always a treat here and so many flavors to choose from.

Everything was made fresh
The atmosphere was amazing, but not as amazing as the food! Everything was made fresh and brought to our table. Was a little disappointed they were out of croissants, but the matcha and macaroons made up for it. Will have to come again to try the croissants!

3. Baklovah Bakery & Sweets

baklovah-bakery-sweets

Website: https://baklovah.com/

Address: 9329 Wurzbach Rd #104

Contact: (210) 982-3231

Hours:

  • Friday – Saturday: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Sunday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM

If you have a serious sweet tooth, the authentic Mediterranean treats at Baklovah Bakery and Sweets will completely captivate your senses. They specialize in expertly crafted warm kunafeh and authentic baklava.

During my visit last week, I paired a rich pistachio baklava with a strong cup of traditional Turkish coffee. The robust flavors perfectly complemented the honey-soaked pastry while I admired their massive gelato counter.

You should know that the menu is heavily skewed toward desserts and custom catering platters. Because of this focus, you’ll need to look elsewhere for a savory lunch sandwich.

Also, keep in mind that specialty made-to-order items usually require a longer wait time. This shop is a wonderful destination for anyone who loves high-quality sweets, but it’s best to plan your visit when you’re not in a rush for a full meal.

Pros

  • Extensive variety of authentic baklava
  • Traditional Turkish coffee and tea pairings
  • Complete gelato and pastry bar
  • Wholesale and large event catering

Cons

  • Entirely dessert-focused with no savory lunch options
  • Longer wait times for made-to-order specialties

Customer Reviews:

I’ll definitely be back!
First time here, February 2026. We drove all the way from Somerset, TX. Ordered a bunch of the “viral” fruit desserts. Ate a couple of desserts while there, they were very cold, the inside fruit filling was pretty firm and one was still frozen inside. The rest we ate at home, to share with the family. By that time the mousse filling had time to thaw out and they tasted better and were creamier.

We also picked up some Dubai Chocolate Bars and Baklovah, those were all amazing. I’ll definitely be back!

There was so much to choose from
Stumbled on this place cause i was on the search for fresh cannolis but definitely will be back to try more of the different pastries. There was so much to choose from but every item will be tasty for sure.i got majority pistachio flavors and they were delicious!

4. Panifico Bake Shop

panifico-bake-shop

Website: https://www.panifico.com/

Address: 602 NW 24th St

Contact: (210) 434-9290

Hours:

  • Tuesday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday – Saturday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Honoring true artisan roots, Panifico Bake Shop uses generations-old recipes to deliver a wonderful culinary experience. They proudly call this unique style “Pan Magnifico” because of its high quality.

This shop is a local gem for anyone who appreciates authentic baking and professional pastry expertise. When you walk through the doors, you’ll find a colorful and sweet-smelling wonderland. The scratch-made treats alone are worth the trip.

The Traditional Mexican pan dulce here pairs well with modern pastries, making them perfect for specialized corporate boxes.

But since they operate out of a single location on the West Side, grabbing your favorite sweet breads can be a bit inconvenient for some residents.

You should also know that their massive event catering orders require advanced planning. You can’t simply walk in and buy a large platter for a party.

Pros

  • Authentic scratch-baking using traditional recipes
  • Expertly crafted by a trained pastry chef
  • Rich mix of cultural and modern pastries
  • Nationally recognized culinary quality

Cons

  • Only one physical location available
  • Large assorted catering boxes require advanced planning

Customer Reviews:

Everything I selected was so delicious
Stopped in today for the first time and was not disappointed. The selection of pan dulce was excellent! They feature so many original varieties. Everything I selected was so delicious. The self serve method of picking out your pastries makes for a relaxed and unrushed experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Love this bake shop
Love this bake shop. Especially love their Easter donuts. Fun. Tasty. Friendly. Have excellent covid safety practices requiring everyone entering to santize their hands first, before being given a tray to take your own pastries. Masks required, of course. Nice place.

5. La Boulangerie

la-boulangerie

Website: http://www.laboulangeriesa.com/

Address: 207 Broadway

Contact: (210) 639-3165

Hours:

  • Wednesday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Finding a true European patisserie experience in the downtown core is easy at La Boulangerie. This neighborhood shop is a famous hub for holiday traditions, known for preparing authentic French holiday cakes.

The bakers prioritize an intimate process and often invite customers to talk directly with the makers behind the counter. You can even find specialty imports that rival high-end candy stores

However, getting a warm croissant for an after-work snack is difficult because they close early at 3:00 PM every day.

On top of that, the adjoining restaurant space is often reserved for private events. This means it can be hard to find a place to sit and enjoy a full dinner.

Despite these limits, it remains a wonderful spot for anyone who values local craftsmanship and authentic European flavors in a friendly setting.

Pros

  • Authentic French roots and European techniques
  • Convenient early morning downtown access
  • Exclusive private event space availability
  • Excellent access to seasonal specialty imports

Cons

  • Early daily closure prevents afternoon shopping
  • Restaurant space restricted to private events only

Customer Reviews:

Hands down the best French bakery
Hands down the best French bakery I’ve been to in San Antonio. The croissant with egg and ham omelette—prepared in true traditional French style—was absolutely outstanding. The croissant itself was perfectly buttery, delicately flaky, and full of flavor. Truly delicious 🤤. I’m definitely coming back! And you know it’s the real deal when they even carry the infamous Orangina 🤩.

My lunch and pastry were SO amazing
My lunch and pastry were SO amazing that I snarfed them down before taking a picture. I ordered a baguette sandwich of fig, Brie and arugula which was so rich, fresh and delicious. My travel mate ordered the same thing but as a crepe. I also ordered a palmier – it was the best palmier I’ve had in the US! Highly recommend stopping here!!
