1. Texas Actors Workshop

Website: http://texasactorsworkshop.com/
Address: 12500 NW Military Drive
Contact: 210.273.9511, [email protected]
Hours: Hours vary depending on class schedule
Transitioning into the world of film requires a very specific on-camera skill set, and Texas Actors Workshop operates specifically to prepare students for indie movies and commercial roles.
I watched a commercial acting session here recently, and the instructor’s direct feedback instantly transformed a student’s delivery.
Students receive plenty of personalized attention because group sizes are strictly capped at just 8 performers per class to ensure everyone gets time in front of the lens.
They also build essential industry habits and maintain strong ties with local talent agencies to help students secure real work.
Just be aware that this boutique setup means classes hit capacity very quickly and offer limited scheduling options. Specifically, Level 1 sessions are primarily held on Tuesday evenings, which can be tough if your child has a packed week.
Still, the targeted training makes it a worthwhile investment for those aiming for the screen.
Both of my children have been attending John’s online youth class for over 6 months now and we have all loved the experience. They get to be creative and learn the ins and outs of acting along with writing etc. John has been a great teacher to to them and me as well as we all came in with zero knowledge of how anything in this industry works. We came into this as just a way for them to be creative and have now been signed to an agency thanks to everything they have learned.

Landing national tours and feature films demands serious dedication, and Nova Arts Acting Studio is known to consistently produce confident, technically strong artists who book real jobs.
With their elite-level program, they offer professional standard development tailored for highly ambitious performers. This curriculum covers everything from musical theatre to dramatic film acting in a highly supportive environment.
Students here dive into practical industry skills like self-tape mastery and intensive audition preparation. They even get hands-on production experience by collaborating on a short movie together.
It’s also notable how the space fosters empathy and diversity to keep actors emotionally grounded during stressful training. Just keep in mind that this intense, career-driven approach might feel too rigorous if you just want a casual hobby.
We’re so glad we found Nova Arts for our daughter. It’s been such a supportive and inspiring place to nurture her love of acting and performing. Abigail is incredibly knowledgeable about helping kids grow in this space in a healthy, thoughtful way, and her team of instructors is talented, encouraging, and truly invested in the kids. The industry insight and connections are an added bonus, but what really stands out is how intentional and supportive the entire experience feels. Highly recommend Nova Arts to any parent with a child interested in acting.

My daughter is new to acting and we are learning this world together. Abigail and her team at Nova are amazing at not only training the actor but parents who support their actors at home.Abigail’s attention to detail, her love for acting and the kids she trains, along with making everyone feel like they are part of the family is something you don’t find often in this competitive world. We cannot wait to do more with Nova and get better!

Finding a good preschool in San Antonio is just the beginning of your child’s journey, but for the next stage of growth, this school is a gem. Irene is the person in charge here, and she is incredibly relevant because she ensures every student feels nurtured while building their confidence. Students explore everything from Shakespeare to improvisational comedy.
When my niece wanted to try acting, we checked out Crystal Sea Drama Co Inc, and I was immediately drawn to how they focus on building foundational confidence in a truly nurturing environment.
They run a two-day schedule on Mondays and Thursdays, making it easier to fit into a busy school week. Finding a good program like this gives kids an early start in handling the next stage of development.
One downside, however, is that their programming strictly serves youth, so adults cannot take classes here. Also, having only two operating days might not work if your child has other clubs on those specific nights.
Crystal Sea is an excellent organization for the San Antonio youth. They offer a wide range of classes from academics and stage painting to theater and improv. All the teachers are top-notch, and Irene Miller is an excellent director. My son has been taking Improv with them for 5 years now, and the skills he’s gained with improv have helped him become an excellent speaker/communicator (and his jokes have improved, too). We love Crystal Sea!

Working in television requires mastering both the artistic craft and the business side. Be Scene Acting delivers training used by actual Hollywood professionals to help you consistently book film and TV roles.
Here, you can expect industry veterans teaching highly effective audition and self-tape preparation. I spoke with a working actor who trained here, and they credited their recent callback entirely to this studio’s intensive techniques.
The instructors, Paul Tinder and Vaughn Taylor, blend Meisner and Method strategies to pull organic, emotional connections out of every student. They also teach the business side, so performers learn how to market themselves.
Classes run all week long, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. Just note that this rigorous, professional-grade curriculum feels intimidating for complete beginners wanting a relaxed introduction.
I cannot recommend Paul and Vaugn highly enough! Their expertise and passion for acting are evident in every class. Both coaches create a supportive and encouraging environment that fosters creativity and confidence. They genuinely care about their students’ success and go above and beyond to ensure we reach our potential.

Fostering a lifelong love of the arts starts by capturing a child’s imagination early. Magik Theatre specializes in bringing beloved children’s books to the stage while making the arts highly accessible.
Finding good art schools in San Antonio helps nurture creativity, and this venue perfectly complements the visual arts with live performance. They even show a huge commitment to inclusivity by offering sensory-friendly and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances.
Additionally, the group even runs traveling tours that bring shows directly to local community centers. They also supply amazing resources for educators, like Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) aligned classroom activity guides.
However, their focus on youth education provides limited training opportunities for adults pursuing commercial acting.
Always a great day at Magik Theatre! The characters are unique in presenting to an audience of ALL ages. Our oldest granddaughter is 26 yrs old & was enthralled with every performance & participated in Summer Camp several years. Thank you , Richard Rosem!
