Top 12 Wine Tasting Spots in San Antonio That’ll Have You Saying “Just One More Glass”

wine-tastings-san-antonio

I think most wine lovers can agree that there’s just something about a good wine tasting that hits differently. Whether you actually know what “tannins” are or just nod along while sipping, it’s all part of the fun.

And let’s be real, wine tasting isn’t just about the wine… It’s the vibe and the setting, and maybe even that one friend who rates every glass like it’s a contest.

As someone who’s done their fair share of “wine weekends” (purely for research, of course), I get how overwhelming it can be to figure out where to go.

So to make it easier and save you from any wine-related regret, I’ve rounded up the best wine tasting spots in San Antonio that are actually worth your time.

1. The Stray Grape Urban Winery

Website: https://www.straygrape.com/

Address: 16630 San Pedro Ave, 78232

Contact Details: +1 210-344-9463

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Tuesday – Closed
  • Wednesday to Friday – 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday – 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Pricing: $$

When I visited The Stray Grape Urban Winery, I was expecting a typical tasting room. But the vibe was more like that of a hangout bar. Their $18 tasting flight includes four pours, and the variety is impressive with dry reds and dessert wines.

The standout for me was learning that their wines have lower sulfites, meaning fewer of those next-day regrets. You can also create your own custom bottle with a personalized label, which makes for a great gift idea.

You can bring your own snacks or cheese board, and there’s plenty of seating.

Pro Tip:
If you’re going with a group, call ahead and ask about their private tasting table or event options. They sometimes offer personalized tastings or small-group experiences that aren’t listed online.

2. Rerooted 210 Urban Winery

Address: 623 Hemisfair Blvd, STE 106, 78205

Contact Details: +1 210-239-9763

Operating Hours:

  • Monday, Thursday to Sunday – 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Tuesday to Wednesday – Closed

Pricing: $$

Rerooted 210 Urban Winery makes you rethink the whole wine experience. The first thing that struck me was their focus on wine on tap, which is not something you see every day. It’s both refreshingly innovative and eco-forward.

Their selection covers reds and rosés. Basically, a little something for everyone. Plus, the wine tasting options are approachable and not intimidating.

The space itself is modern and unfussy, with both indoor and outdoor seating. If you’re hungry, you can bring in food from nearby spots (like tacos, which I tried), since they’re totally cool with outside snacks.

Pro Tip:
Ask about their keg system and rotating wines. They often have limited-edition or experimental batches on tap that you won’t find bottled anywhere else. This is your chance to try rare pours that change regularly.

3. Florvino Flower Winery

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday – 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Friday to Sunday – 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Pricing: $$

Instead of the usual grape wines, FlorVino Flower Winery crafts its wines from Texas wildflowers and blossoms like jasmine and hibiscus. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but the flavors were refreshing.

The tasting room feels cozy and lively, tucked inside the Hotel Gibbs right on Alamo Plaza. I popped in on a weekend and caught some live music, which made the whole experience feel more like a fun night out than just a wine tasting.

One thing I loved was how open they are about the process. The “Flower to Glass” show actually made me appreciate the care and creativity behind these unique wines.

Pro Tip:
Don’t miss their “Flower to Glass” experience. It’s a mini behind-the-scenes tour that really deepens your appreciation for how these floral wines are made.

High Street Wine Co. has a massive wine list, over 500 bottles from more than 20 countries. But it didn’t feel overwhelming, thanks to the staff who were helpful without being pushy. One of them even walked me through a flight like we were old friends.

The space recently doubled in size after a renovation. There’s a sunlit patio and a more private tasting room tucked in the back. The vibe is modern but warm, with lots of reclaimed wood and exposed steel that gives it character.

They also offer small bites like charcuterie and olives—simple but clearly well thought out.

Pro Tip:
Don’t hesitate to ask the staff for recommendations based on your taste preferences. They’re incredibly knowledgeable and might introduce you to hidden gems or unique wines you wouldn’t have picked otherwise.

Copa Wine Bar has been a favorite in San Antonio for over 20 years, offering a refined spot to explore global wines and enjoy good food. What started as a small wine and liquor shop in 2005 has evolved into a welcoming wine bar.

The wine selection is impressively diverse. You’ll find everything from bold reds to crisp whites sourced from across the globe. During my visit, the staff shared stories about the origins of each bottle, so every sip came with a little nugget of wine trivia.

Their food menu is equally worth your attention. I couldn’t resist the flatbread, which paired beautifully with the wine I was tasting.

Pro Tip:
If you attend one of Copa’s tasting nights and find a bottle you love, ask if it’s part of their rotating discounted bottles. Many of the wines featured during tastings are available at a special discounted price for that night only.

6. Vino Grotta

Vino Grotta boasts an impressive selection of 100 wines from around the world, offering dessert wines and even non-alcoholic choices. You can also pair your glass with a variety of gourmet snacks.

I couldn’t resist the creamy red pepper gouda soup paired with their grilled cheese. It wasn’t just comforting, but it felt like the perfect duet to my Merlot. The charcuterie boards are Instagram-worthy and make for an excellent wine companion.

And then there’s the Wine Cave. I had the chance to peek inside during a private event tour, and I was instantly wowed. This tucked-away space is an elegant hideaway tailor-made for intimate celebrations or gatherings.

Pro Tip:
Check out their outdoor patio for a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a nice place to enjoy your wine and snacks, especially in the evening. The environment is quiet and perfect for casual conversations or small gatherings.

Pricing: $$

Little Death is a relaxed wine bar set in a renovated 90-year-old gas station, covered in colorful street art. Inside, the space is filled with bottles from small independent producers, many of them European.

Wines are available by the glass (typically $4–$7) or by the bottle to take home, many at discounted prices. There are also snacks: cheese plates, tapas, and more elevated bites when available.

I tried an orange wine from a tiny German producer and a Loire Valley red made from Cabernet Franc, both detours from my usual picks.

Pro Tip:
Sign up for their email newsletter beforehand. They send news and updates directly to subscribers, which include announcements about special wines or promotions.

8. Dawson’s Creek Winery

Pricing: $$$

Dawson’s Creek Winery was formerly Helotes Creek Winery, until new owners David and Melissa Stallcup took over on New Year’s Eve 2022.

Their collection of over 35 handcrafted wines is impressive. I was blown away by the variety, especially the Verdicchio, a rare Italian white wine they craft. It stood out with its refreshing citrusy notes and that curious almond finish.

Outside, the shaded oak tree seating was my personal favorite. I took my wine flight out there, and it turned into a genuinely peaceful afternoon. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy a tasting or a glass with friends.

Pro Tip:
Ask the staff about their custom wine blending experience. They actually let you create your own personalized wine blend, tailoring it to your taste preferences.

Vintage Wine Bar offers a thoughtful selection of over 150 wines. Their list includes Old World classics and small-production gems, like a well-structured Bordeaux or an adventurous orange wine.

On my visit, I had the chance to join one of their bi-weekly tastings, and the experience was a highlight. The staff went out of their way to tailor recommendations based on my preferences, guiding me to try wines I never would’ve picked myself.

The small European-style kitchen is another standout feature, serving gourmet cheese boards and creative small plates. The food is beautifully prepared and perfectly paired to complement your wine.

Pro Tip:
Ask about their “by-the-glass” list. It’s always changing and often includes rare or limited bottles that aren’t available in most shops.

10. Whisper Path Cellars

Website: https://www.whisperpathcellars.com/

Address: 12123 Jones Maltsberger Rd, 78247

Contact Details: +1 830-460-3825

Pricing: $$

Whisper Path Cellars offers a unique opportunity to experience wines. Unlike many local wineries that source their wine from other regions, Whisper Path handles every step of winemaking, from grape crush to bottling.

I booked their private tasting experience in the barrel room, and it felt refreshingly intimate. One standout was their Texas Tempranillo, an elegant red with balanced tannins and subtle notes of cherry and spice. It definitely stole the show for me.

Another favorite was the Blanc du Bois, a crisp white with hints of tropical fruit and citrus, perfect for sipping on a warm evening. I also couldn’t resist their rosé, which had just the right amount of brightness without being too sweet.

Pro Tip:
Ask about their “winemaker series”.  Whisper Path occasionally produces limited runs that aren’t widely advertised. These one-offs often highlight lesser-known Texas grapes or unique barrel finishes, and they’re only available at the winery.

11. Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards

Just a quick 30-minute drive from San Antonio, Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards offers the perfect balance between laid-back vibes and a serious dedication to quality winemaking.

Their focus on crafting 100% Texas wines with minimal intervention is what makes this place truly special. I had the pleasure of trying their 2021 El Jardin Albariño, which totally lived up to its TEXSOM Platinum Award hype.

If you’re into bubbles, their sparkling rosé is a must-try! Tastings are by reservation only, which I loved.

Pro Tip:
Bring comfortable walking shoes. Saint Tryphon’s charming property offers the chance to stroll through the vines and snap stunning photos of the Texas Hill Country.

Lost Oak Winery has a charming and convenient spot to enjoy award-winning Texas wines. Just minutes away from San Antonio, it’s an easy drive for those looking to slip away from the hustle and bustle into the slower-paced Texas Hill Country.

They focus on wine tastings that highlight their diverse collection, including whites and blends. I was particularly impressed by their Tempranillo, with its bold yet smooth character. It felt like it was made to complement a Texas sunset.

Something unique is the on-site cigar lounge. Even if you’re not into cigars, the space adds an unexpected flair to your time here.
