Bexar Memorial Funeral Home & Cremations offers a thoughtful approach to traditional funeral planning, guiding families through paperwork and legal documents.
They emphasize customized ceremonies that reflect the loved one’s personality.
I appreciate the flexibility to hold a viewing or funeral service either before or after cremation—clearly, the family’s wishes come first.
Their Pre‑Plan options are practical and thoughtful, giving families peace of mind while avoiding emotional and financial stress later.
On top of that, their digital support is strong. They offer features like obituary pages, photo galleries, and live-streaming services.
The facility features a dedicated chapel suitable for both intimate and larger gatherings. It feels calm, respectful, and welcoming, which makes a difference during difficult moments.
Pricing is transparent, with basic professional services starting around $3,195. While I appreciated the upfront approach, it’s worth noting that certain add-ons—such as graveside services—can cost more.
Showed professionalism during one of the most difficult times of my life
“I want to sincerely thank Bexar Memorial for the care, compassion, and professionalism they showed during one of the most difficult times of my life. From the very beginning, their communication never stopped; every question was answered, and not once were my concerns left unaddressed. They took care of my father’s body with dignity, prepared the casket, and managed the transport from Texas to North Carolina. They also created the funeral programs and coordinated everything seamlessly with the funeral home in North Carolina. When my father arrived, everything was perfect and handled with such respect. What stood out most was how they made me feel. Every emotion I had was acknowledged and respected, and somehow, they made me feel understood. Even in moments when I felt completely alone, Bexar Memorial was there, providing comfort and reassurance. Their professionalism, compassion, and support brought peace in a time of deep loss, and for that, I will always be grateful. I wholeheartedly recommend Bexar Memorial to any family seeking dignified, reliable, and compassionate care for their loved one.”

2. Sunset North Funeral Home

Address: 910 N Loop 1604 E, 78232
Contact Details: +1 210-594-1143
Sunset North Funeral Home offers a flexible mix of traditional funerals and cremation options, including celebrations of life and veterans’ services.
Beyond the range of services, they’re welcoming to all backgrounds and focus on creating personalized tributes rather than generic ceremonies.
Their staff guides families through complex paperwork and logistics, such as insurance claims and Social Security benefits.
Beyond administrative support, their cremation process is managed by certified CANA-licensed operators with an “exclusive custody” promise. You can feel confident that your loved one remains in trusted hands.
Facility-wise, Sunset North really stands out. It has modern, welcoming spaces, including a living-room–style foyer and a chapel seating 200 guests.
Families have exclusive use of the facility during their service, which many competitors don’t offer. Just note that most extra services like caskets, urns, and memorials require a specific quote and can add up, so it’s worth confirming all costs in advance.
Staff kindly and diligently guided me through this difficult time
“Sunset and the people there were wonderful to work with after my mother’s passing. Mom had pre purchased a dignity plan for funeral arrangements. The staff there kindly and diligently guided me through this difficult time. While we didn’t utilize the facility for mom’s memorial service, they delivered all programs and her urn to our church. They took care of all of the details and treated me with such compassion. I highly recommend a Dignity Memorial plan with Sunset North Funeral Home. I am grateful for their professionalism and for the smooth experience.”

Professional, responsive, and compassionate
“My husband departed suddenly and without warning at home. While in shock from his death, I had to select a funeral home. I selected Sunset North and NEVER regretted my decision throughout the process. At every stage to include when my husband departed his home for the final time, he was treated with respect and honor. When Sunset North found out he was a retired member, he left our home draped under the American flag. I was surprised and thankful, he was treated with the honor and respect he deserved. While making the arrangements, Frank, Liana and their staff were professional, thorough, responsive and compassionate. They also made all of the Ft Sam arrangements. The costs were very detailed and clear. My daughters and I were very pleased with Sunset North services and we provide them our HIGHEST recommendation.”

3. D W Brooks Funeral Home

Address: 2950 E Houston St, 78202
Contact Details: +1 210-223-2045
D W Brooks Funeral Home provides a full spectrum of funeral services tailored to different needs. Their traditional funeral services offer full-service burials with personalized ceremonies, typically priced between $3,000 and $5,000.
The staff also assists with transportation, including transfers of remains and family travel via hearse or limousine. One family mentioned how seamless it felt to have all logistics coordinated, which made an emotionally difficult day much easier to manage.
What stood out to me was their hands-on guidance throughout the entire planning process. They don’t just organize ceremonies, but they walk families through every step, helping with paperwork and other logistics.
They also provide support with memorial touches, such as obituary creation, printed programs, and customized urns.
Unlike some competitors, D W Brooks does not publish a detailed General Price List online. Families must call or visit in person to request the complete pricing, which can be inconvenient when you’re trying to budget or compare options from home.
Handled everything with grace, professionalism, and compassion
“I can’t thank D. W. Brooks Funeral Home enough for the incredible job they did organizing my mother’s funeral service. From start to finish, they handled everything with such grace, professionalism, and compassion. The presentation was beautiful and truly honored my mother in a way that brought comfort to our entire family. 4. Neptune Society

Address: 8910 Bandera Rd, Suite 301, 78250
Contact Details: +1 210-880-1800
Neptune Society is a cremation specialist, ideal for families seeking affordable, straightforward end-of-life care without the complexities of traditional funerals.
Their direct cremation runs around $1,000–$1,500 locally—simple, respectful, and free of hidden fees or pressure.
For those who want something a step above the bare minimum, Neptune offers cremation with an urn, coming in around $1,200 to $2,000. If you’d like to include a memorial service or a remembrance gathering, expect costs around $1,500.
Pre-arrangement consultations are another plus. At roughly $100 to $300, they offer peace of mind and a way to lock in today’s prices. Several clients I spoke with said planning ahead was refreshingly simple, with less pressure and clearer choices.
Neptune’s team handles the necessary paperwork—from death certificates to cremation permits—and goes beyond, helping coordinate burial or the scattering of remains.
On the flip side, they don’t provide traditional burial or embalming. If you need these services, you’ll have to coordinate with another provider.
Our expectations were exceeded beyond measure
“Everything went very well. Maria, Marleen, and Elizabeth were outstanding. From purchasing our plans to having to use them unexpectedly only 6 months later, I was rest assured in the whole process that my wife’s wishes would be fulfilled. At her Celebration of Life, our expectations were exceeded beyond measure shown through the beautiful memorial that was uniquly crafted to exemplify my wife’s personality.”

Very sympathetic to our situation and thoroughly explained the processes
“As a military veteran I had been receiving advertisements about Neptune Society and their services for many years. Having been blessed with good health, my own mortality was not an immediate concern. As me and my spouse grew older our longevity became more into focus and we then decided to look into what Neptune Society had to offer as far as funeral/burial matters were concerned. When my wife was unexpectedly and suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer, we knew right away who we needed to contact and plan for her imminent passing. Neptune Society responded immediately to our inquiries and sent a representative to our home to discuss what plans, options, and costs were available to us. The representative was very sympathetic to our situation and thoroughly explained the processes involved in taking care of my wife on the event of her passing. When my wife did eventually pass at home under hospice care, Neptune Society was notified and immediately sent their representatives to retrieve my wife’s remains. My family members were present and very appreciative of the courtesy, empathy, and professionalism Neptune Society displayed in handling and removing our loved one’s remains. They kept us updated and informed during the process of cremation and eventual return of my wife’s funeral urn. Neptune Society alleviated all of our concerns that would be expected at such a time of great loss. I also have a contract with Neptune Society for my own arrangements which I established when making arrangements for my wife. I am grateful for the services they provide and recommend them for anyone facing end of life concerns.”

5. Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Address: 1701 Austin Hwy, 78218
Contact Details: +1 210-695-0943
Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home offers both burial and cremation services with a range of options that immediately stood out.
Their cremation services are especially adaptable. The basics, like permits and certificates, are covered. You can also add a visitation, a memorial, or even a celebration of life as needed.
I was struck by the variety of on-site burial options, from niches and mausoleums to cremation gardens, which makes planning feel more cohesive.
They also take a lot off your plate behind the scenes, handling death certificates, permits, insurance claims, and travel arrangements for out-of-town family. Having access to a 24/7 Compassion Helpline adds an extra layer of peace of mind.
Personal touches are handled thoughtfully, with memory books and tribute videos that don’t feel cookie-cutter. And if you spend any time on the grounds, you’ll notice how calm and expansive the 75-acre memorial park feels.
However, if your priority is a very minimal or budget-focused option, it’s worth comparing prices with providers that specialize in no-frills services.

Johnny, Jennifer, Denise, and many other staff members were kind and efficient. They ensured that our family had a stress free and well organized experience. They made the whole experience better
“I met Denise, Amanda, Gloria, Bianca, & Alex because my father passed away.
They were all very good at providing the emotional support & assistance my family needed to help my mother cremate my father & provide the service we wanted. The new chapel area they have is beautiful. It’s so full of light & colors so it does not give you the church or religious experience which is what my dad would have wanted. It was a beautiful memorial & celebration of life for my father. Everyone we met took care of our needs.I hated losing my father but they made the whole experience better. The food was great to, especially the children salad sandwich & potato salad. I would recommend the chapel area to provide the right kind of experience you want for your loved one. Thank you to Denise, Amanda, Gloria, Alex & Bianca for providing everything we needed to take care of the best dad in the world! ❤️😢”
