Contact: (210) 226-6169

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

San Antonio Eye Center stands out as one of the oldest and largest eye care groups in the area, offering a massive roster of ophthalmologists and optometrists covering nearly every subspecialty.

Because they operate their own dedicated surgery center alongside administrative offices, patients experience a streamlined transition from initial diagnosis to surgical procedures.

This clinic uses the latest technology for laser-assisted cataract and advanced Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) procedures to maintain strict modern standards.

They comfortably handle everything from routine pediatric exams to complex retinal surgeries for diabetic patients.

However, their segmented location logistics can be mildly inconvenient, as patients sometimes have to visit entirely different physical addresses for a medical checkup and new frames on the same day.

Pros

  • Covers routine pediatric exams to complex retinal surgeries
  • Features multiple clinic locations across the city
  • Employs specialized doctors for pediatric conditions
  • Houses in-house optical and contact lens departments

Cons

  • Requires visiting separate addresses for medical checkups and optical purchases
  • Can be geographically confusing for first-time visitors

Website: https://mysaeyes.com/

Address: 2810 North Loop 1604 West, Suite 200, San Antonio, TX 78248

Contact: (210) 822-9800

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

San Antonio Eye Specialists prioritizes direct surgeon access, meaning you get to meet the lead surgeon during your very first consultation instead of just seeing a technician. I accompanied a family member here for a refractive surgery consultation, and the immediate one-on-one time with the primary doctor was incredibly reassuring.

They house a fully accredited on-site surgical center certified by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), allowing clinical exams and procedures to happen in a single regulated environment.

The practice uses advanced diagnostic tools like the Intraocular Lens (IOL) Master 700 to create highly detailed maps of the eye before any treatment.

The main drawback is their limited insurance network, meaning out-of-pocket expenses are likely since they operate completely out of network for several major vision plans.

Pros

  • Provides direct access to the lead surgeon
  • Operates a certified on-site surgical facility
  • Uses high-end precision diagnostic mapping
  • Offers digital check-in kiosks and mobile apps

Cons

  • Operates out of network for major vision plans
  • Requires out-of-pocket payments for elective procedures

Dr. Iskander is an incredible ophthalmologist. During what had been a very difficult week for us, his expertise, kindness, and professionalism truly made a difference.

We also want to give a special shout out to his assistant who came in at the very end of our appointment. Her kindness and friendliness turned our not-so-good week into a much better one. Thank you!

Address: 1200 Brooklyn Ave, Suite 240, San Antonio, TX 78212

Contact: (210) 223-5561

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Serving the community since 1970, Ophthalmology Associates of San Antonio offers over 50 years of institutional history, establishing them as an all-in-one subspecialty hub for complex ocular issues. They actively participate in FDA-monitored clinical trials, which occasionally give patients access to advanced treatments before general market release.

Every physician on their roster is thoroughly trained in a specific subspecialty, ensuring a high level of diagnostic precision.

Their four strategically located facilities across the city feature full-service optical shops for added convenience.

That said, because they house high-demand experts, scheduling can sometimes be an exercise in patience, and getting an appointment with a specific subspecialist often involves a longer wait time compared to booking a standard eye exam.

Pros

  • Houses specialists for all major ophthalmology fields
  • Participates actively in clinical research trials
  • Operates four major facilities across the city
  • Includes complete on-site optical departments

Cons

  • Involves longer wait times for specific subspecialists
  • Presents scheduling difficulties for urgent specialist care

Dr Trevino is efficient, knowledgeable, and is all about attention to detail. Laura checked my eyes & gave me useful info. Front desk: Jabrile & Alajandro made me laugh & had patience with this ancient human. Go early to avoid a wait in the office & leaving the garage.

The staff were very helpful and courteous and the check-in process was quick. Dr. Salazar is wonderful and easy to converse with. He’s a great listener and he speaks in a manner to communicate in understandable terms so the patient comprehends key points for assessing decisions.

Healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. I Care San Antonio focuses specifically on providing complete eye care to underserved individuals, operating with a volunteer-driven clinical team of over 50 vision specialists.

A colleague of mine recently volunteered at this facility, and they were deeply impressed by the full-spectrum medical and surgical care provided to those who cannot afford standard services.

This organization operates as a charitable non-profit, covering patient costs for medications and cataract surgeries through donor contributions.

However, the main hurdle for prospective patients is the strict intake protocol, as individuals must complete a rigorous application process to qualify for their charitable services rather than simply booking a standard appointment.

Pros

  • Delivers premium specialist care to underserved populations
  • Covers surgical and medication costs through donations
  • Assists patients with prescription eyeglass selection
  • Maintains high transparency as a charitable organization

Cons

  • Requires a thorough qualifying application process
  • Closes daily for lunch, which restricts scheduling

A quick prescription check is rarely enough to fully understand your ocular health. Going far beyond the basics, San Antonio Eyeworks evaluates over 25 key aspects of your vision during their comprehensive assessments and produces custom lenses accurate within a fraction of a diopter.

They have a distinct passion for fitting custom scleral lenses for patients with severe corneal irregularities.

They maintain an in-house edger that allows them to craft most single-vision prescriptions on the same day for emergency situations, and they also offer Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) for children as a non-surgical way to potentially halt nearsightedness.
