The 5 Best Vets in San Antonio for Expert, Compassionate Pet Care Services

vets-in-san-antonio
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Range of Services: We examined the breadth of treatments each clinic offers to ensure they can handle multiple life stages and species. Facilities providing both routine checkups and complex surgeries received higher priority.

Emergency Availability: Medical crises require immediate attention, so we evaluated operating hours and after-hours accessibility. Clinics offering extended evening schedules or 24/7 urgent care scored very well.

Facility and Tech: High-quality diagnostics rely on modern equipment, prompting us to look closely at on-site laboratories and imaging tools. We favored hospitals that reduce the need for outside specialist referrals.

Affordability: Balancing premium medicine with a realistic budget is crucial for most families. We analyzed service pricing and the availability of accessible wellness packages to accommodate different financial situations.

Welcoming an animal into your home brings real joy, but keeping them healthy takes the right support. Finding the best vet in San Antonio is an important step for any pet parent who wants long-term wellness for their companion.

You might already have a dog trainer to manage puppy behavior or a groomer for regular upkeep, but your pet’s health should always come first. That’s where a caring veterinarian makes all the difference

A caring veterinarian provides the foundation for that well-being. They offer guidance, preventive care, and treatment when it’s needed most.

To help you find the right care, we’ve put together a list of trusted local clinics so you can relax knowing your companion is in good hands and stays happy and healthy.

I’m incredibly happy
So grateful that we found this place. The entire team is so friendly— from the front desk staff to the vet tech to the vet— I’m just truly floored with the attention and care I received. They answered every one of my questions, talked me through a care plan for my cat and were so assuring. I’m incredibly happy to have established ourselves here and look forward for them to meet the rest of my fur babies.

Their compassion meant everything
A friend recommended St. Francis to us, and I’m so thankful we went. We recently had to take our baby there for end-of-life care, and the entire staff was incredibly compassionate. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff, technicians, and doctor all showed such genuine kindness and understanding. They gave us the time and space we needed with our fur baby and treated him with so much love and dignity. In one of the hardest moments for our family, their compassion meant everything. Thank you to everyone we came in contact with.

My overall experience was a truly admirable one
My boy Canelo was cut by an intruder in my backyard. He needed stitches so I brought him to Blue Cross Pet Hospital. He got treated wonderfully and surprisingly quickly. Angelina and Vivian were very friendly and helpful. Matt went above and beyond to make my overall experience a truly admirable one. I recommend Blue Cross Pet Hospital to anyone and everyone.

Dr. Soighet was fantastic! She examined both my cats Twinkie and Romeo. She was very knowledgeable and made us all feel very comfortable. She answered all my questions and listened to what I had to say. The facility is always very clean and tidy. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I will continue to bring my fur babies here! I highly recommend this vet office!

The entire staff at Mission were amazing
Our Bentley was reaching the end of his journey. After hoping he’d make a comeback, we had to face the hard truth that he wasn’t. The entire staff at Mission were amazing. I wish I had been more focused and noticed names but it was an overwhelming night. It felt as if they held our hands through the entire experience. The sweet kindness they showed us will be something I remember always. Thank you to everyone who helped us that night. We truly appreciate you all.

They were amazing with our Maggie Mae!

Customer Reviews

I love this vet!
I love this vet! Great location, and have always been kind and accommodating. Like any doctor offices, I wish they had more extended hours (evenings, weekends) but I understand that’s harder to staff. The front desk has always been helpful in answering my (sometimes many) questions. My dog has had routine care and dental extractions here and everything went great. I have recommended this place to friends and I appreciate Dr. Halberg’s expertise at all my visits!

My pup felt very safe
I brought my dog in for the first time to this clinic. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. My pup felt very safe. We are looking forward to having our dog grow up knowing they will be in good care.

5. Town & Country Veterinary Hospital

Website: https://veterinariansanantoniotx.com/

Address: 10350 Bandera Rd

Contact: Phone: (210) 796-1027 | Email: [email protected]

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – Midnight
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM – Midnight

Locating a reliable middle ground between a standard wellness check and an expensive emergency room visit is challenging. Town & Country Veterinary Hospital solves this with a brilliant hybrid care model.

They encourage a walk-in-friendly culture for preventative visits and sudden urgent needs alike. This flexibility is a massive relief for busy professionals who cannot predict when a pet might suddenly fall ill.

Their extended hours also provide added convenience, as they stay open until midnight on most days. This offers a more affordable option compared to full emergency hospitals.

Alongside standard treatments, their veterinarians offer integrative medical options such as acupuncture and chiropractic care for holistic pain management.

Due to their walk-in model, routine wellness appointments might occasionally face longer triage wait times if several critical cases arrive simultaneously.

Plus, they also close earlier on Saturdays, so it helps to plan in advance.

Pros

  • Late-night availability until midnight
  • High-end laser therapy and dental services
  • Highly experienced critical care staff
  • Proactive foundation in preventative screenings

Cons

  • Shorter operating hours on Saturdays
  • Potential triage wait times for routine visits

These guys saved my cat’s life
These guys saved my cat’s life. I was able to walk in with my boy, he was lethargic due to a pee blockage. They immediately took over and showed me that they truly cared about my pet. They also recommended me to transfer my cat to a 24/7 ER and I did. . They handled the referral for me and I only had to transport my boy later that day. Fast forward the weekend he is back home thriving!! God bless you all.

I brought my 2 Basset Hounds in as emergency patients for a severe allergic reaction. Although the wait was long, it was well worth it because of the care they (and we) experienced from Tatiana and Dr. Cade. What an awesome team of caring, compassionate caregivers. We appreciated it so much that we’re making this our primary pet care clinic. Wish we could give them 10 stars.
