Stop Wasting Gym Fees: The Best Personal Trainer in San Antonio for Real Gains

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Trainer Qualifications: We looked for certified professionals with verifiable credentials from reputable organizations like NASM or degrees in Kinesiology.

Customization: We prioritized businesses that tailor programs to individual goals rather than handing out generic, cookie-cutter templates.

Facility Atmosphere: We assessed the vibe of the gym to ensure it is welcoming, safe, and conducive to focused training without unnecessary distractions.

Scheduling Flexibility: We checked for convenient hours, including early mornings and weekends, to accommodate busy work-life schedules.

Value for Money: We weighed the cost against the services provided, such as nutritional guidance, app support, or 24/7 access.

Finding the motivation to hit the gym is tough enough without having to figure out what to do once you get there. Beginners often feel lost, while busy professionals struggle to find time.

Having someone in your corner makes all the difference. San Antonio has a massive fitness scene, ranging from high-intensity CrossFit boxes to boutique Pilates studios, but finding a coach who actually listens to your goals rather than just yelling at you can feel overwhelming.

To save you the legwork, I’ve dug into the local scene to find the top spots that offer structure, accountability, and real results.

How much does a Personal Trainer cost in San Antonio?

Investing in your health doesn’t have to drain your savings, but it helps to know what to expect before you commit. Generally, hiring a pro in this city will run you anywhere from $35 to upwards of $90 per hour.

Specialized coaches or high-end facilities often sit at the higher end of that spectrum. However, you can often snag a better deal by purchasing session packages or opting for semi-private training, which brings the per-session price down significantly.

Think of it as skipping a few fancy dinners a month to invest in a body that feels great year-round.

I am very pleased with my results.

I had a great experience with Brianha for the past few months. She has really helped me improve my form, technique & overall muscle mass. I would really recommend this place! The price goes a long way & the body scans they provide are so insightful! Very pleased with my results.

Website: https://www.apexfitnesssa.com/

Address: 16215 University Oak

Contact: +1 210-838-2739

Hours: Open 24 Hours

Apex Fitness SA restricts its private facility to paying clients only. With “Train Anytime” access, you never fight for equipment or feel self-conscious in a crowded room.

Leading the charge is Isaac Salazar, a Marine veteran with a Master’s in Kinesiology, so you know the programming is disciplined and science-based.

Their integration of behavior modification alongside lifting is a game-changer for long-term habits. They look at the whole picture, including supplement recommendations and specific meal guidance.

Training here can feel much more holistic than just counting reps.

The biggest drawback to consider is the location. Since they only have one physical spot on University Oak, it might be a commute if you don’t live in that specific pocket of San Antonio.

Pros

  • Private gym with low occupancy levels
  • 24/7/365 access for members
  • Head coach has a Master’s in Kinesiology
  • Includes behavior modification guidance

Cons

  • Single physical location limits accessibility

It’s a friendly and great gym!

Elijah is my trainer, he has been such a fun and helpful person helping me achieve my fitness goals. He’s very dedicated and disciplined in what he does. As someone wanting to be a Physical Therapist and in the Kinesiology field in college I have been able to implement and learn a lot of things from him. It’s a friendly and great gym!

Here, standard commercial vibes give way to a “tribe” atmosphere where members actually know your name.

I dropped by to check out their setup, and seeing the rows of Eleiko plates and combo racks really drives home that this is a serious training ground. The owners even have a dog that greets you, instantly making the intimidating equipment feel welcoming.

Members get 24/7 access, so night owls can lift whenever they please. They also let you add your own songs to the gym Spotify playlist.

However, if you aren’t a member yet, access is limited to staffed hours, so you have to plan your first visit carefully.

  • In-house manual therapy clinic (MAT)
  • Community-focused “tribe” atmosphere
  • 24/7 access for members

Cons

  • Staffing hours limit non-member access

Everyone (staff and patrons) were friendly and helpful in the gym.

Nice private small business powerlifting gym! They have excellent customer service, replied immediately to my message request and willing to provide a very reasonable week pass as I was in the area for a work conference. Everyone (staff and patrons) were friendly and helpful in the gym. Clean, decent equipment, and best of all the owners have a dog that is sometimes there and warms up to pets! Never over crowded!

Address: 9200 Broadway #130

Contact: +1 210-627-7713

Hours:

  • Mon: 8 AM – 8 PM
  • Tue & Thu: 7 AM – 8:30 PM
  • Wed & Fri: 8 AM – 8:30 PM
  • Sat: 7:30 AM – 12 PM

Group energy meets personal attention here in Total Body Training. You get the buzz of a class while working on a plan built just for you.

Instead of everyone doing the same burpees, you work on a 6-week strength cycle tailored to your specific fitness level.

What I like most is how they offer an exclusive in-house app on studio-provided tablets to access their specific workout plans, track progress, and view instructions during class.

When I tried a session, using the tablet to track my specific weights and reps kept me focused, yet I still felt the motivating buzz of the group around me. It removes the guesswork completely since the app tells you exactly what to do next.

They also have a “foundations program” where beginners learn proper form before lifting heavier weights.

The main downside is that the studio is closed on Sundays. If that is your primary day for long workouts, this schedule might be a dealbreaker.

Pros

  • Individualized plans in a group setting
  • In-house app tracks weights and progress
  • 6-week progressive strength cycles
  • Foundations program for beginners

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays

Total Body Training is the best gym I’ve been too.

Total Body Training is the best gym I’ve been too. Jean is a wonderful trainer who has helped me meet my body goals. I love the gym atmosphere. The group classes makes me want to work harder. I like that our workout plan changes every 5 weeks so I get to learn new workouts and techniques. Jean makes working out fun by having themes such as 90s hip hop, rnb, reggae and etc. I recommend him to everybody in the San Antonio area.

You’re in good hands at Total Body Fitness

You’re in good hands at Total Body Fitness. Jean Carlos will customize work outs around the goals you are working towards. This studio takes away the anxieties of planning work outs at the gym and Jean Carlos helps to hold you accountable by texting you reminders to come to class. I really enjoy the strength training I’ve done here.

Physical training sits alongside mental health counseling and nutrition here in Fit Therapy to address the whole person. This three-pillar system addresses the whole person rather than just the physical symptoms, which is rare to find.

Run by a husband-and-wife team with degrees in Exercise Physiology and Counseling, they are uniquely equipped to handle emotional barriers like stress eating.

This deep dive into the root causes of health issues ensures that your lifestyle changes actually stick. They create meal plans using real food, avoiding the trap of fad diets and processed substitutes.

A limitation to keep in mind is that they are geographically limited to San Antonio. They are a physical destination, so you have to be local to fully benefit from their integrated model.

Pros

  • Combines fitness, nutrition, and counseling
  • Owned by licensed clinical professionals
  • Focuses on root causes of health issues
  • Custom meal plans with real food

Cons

  • Services limited to San Antonio locations

Trainers are knowledgeable and professional.

I have loved working with Patricia. She is so knowledgeable and professional. I decided to use a personal trainer because of some health complications (like bad elbows and knees) that made “one size fits all” type exercise routines not doable for me. She always finds a way to work the muscles I need to work without causing pain or injury. The gym is also small and intimate, so not a lot of distractions or random people running around, which is nice.
