1. Takumi Japanese Restaurant & Bar

Website: https://takumisanantonio.com/
Address: 10907 Culebra Road Ste 101
Contact: 210-255-1839
Hours: Mon – Thu 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Fri – Sat 11:00 AM – 10:30 PM; Sun 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
For anyone craving an endless supply of buttery, fresh seafood, this spot shines as a premier All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) destination that refuses to compromise on quality.
Instead of letting plates sit out on a buffet line, their chefs prepare every single order individually, ensuring each bite arrives perfectly chilled or sizzling hot.
I recently grabbed a table here during a busy weekday lunch and was thoroughly impressed by how they elevated classic dishes with inventive, modern Asian fusion flavors.
As the first integrated sushi and full-service bar in the Alamo Ranch business district, the space effortlessly handles casual family dinners and upbeat social gatherings.
But while the massive menu variety and extravagant live entertainment create a fun atmosphere, the location’s popularity brings a noticeable downside.
Navigating the heavy business district congestion during peak lunch hours often leads to frustratingly long wait times for a table.

My husband and I had dinner at Takumi for the first time yesterday evening. It was an outstanding experience from start to finish! I really wanted to highlight the service from our waiter Adrian. He was kind, attentive, and personalized our experience in a way that left a lasting impression. The sushi rolls we ordered were delicious, and the miso soup was a standout for me. The restaurant was clean, beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was really nicely curated. We will absolutely be returning soon and are so excited that this restaurant is nearby!

2. SUKO Japanese Cuisine

Website: http://sukosatx.com/
Address: 17134 Bulverde Rd Suite 106
Contact: 210-257-6535; [email protected]
Hours: Mon – Fri 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM; Sat 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM; Sun 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM
SUKO Japanese Cuisine imports premium ingredients directly from Japan’s famous Toyosu Market, so you know the quality of food here is unmatched.
They even elevate their sashimi and nigiri through a specialized dry-aging technique that deepens the rich umami notes and creates a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Diners seeking a comprehensive culinary journey can indulge in their highly curated, 17-course omakase experience that masterfully combines traditional tastes with contemporary techniques.
But accessing this level of dining does come with strict financial commitments. The restaurant mandates a hefty deposit for reservations, and guests lose the entire amount if they cancel with less than a full day’s notice.
A mandatory service gratuity is also automatically added to all omakase bookings.

Food was presented beautifully and the flavor was nothing short of immaculate ! The staff was over all cordial but our server Johnathan went above and beyond. Kudos to the excellent sushi chefs. Would reccommend these Lukas the Spider roll and Texas wagyu. Fries rice is a must try! They even treated us to special dessert for my parent’s wedding anniversary

Had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Suko’s. The seafood was so fresh, apps were delicious, staff were friendly, drinks were good, and the owner was super nice as well. I recommend the ocean platter if you’re into sashimi. We also got oysters, edamame, wagyu pockets, and stir fried ramen. I can’t wait to be back!

3. Sushihana Japanese Restaurant

Website: https://www.sushihanasan.com/
Address: 1810 NW Military Hwy
Contact: 210-340-7808; [email protected]
Hours: Tue – Sat 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Mon, Sun Closed
With over two decades serving the community, Sushihana Japanese Restaurant perfectly balances preserving traditions with integrating modern Asian fusion techniques.
They specialize in a cutting-edge style that pairs silky nigiri and seasonal catches with innovative hot dishes.
Unlike standard sushi joints, they operate a dual-specialty kitchen that plates up juicy, beautifully seared ribeye alongside their delicate seafood offerings.
This makes it an ideal spot for groups where some diners might prefer hearty meats over raw fish.
You can easily order a fantastic tempura cheesecake to cap off the meal, or grab something sweet from local cake shops later.
But it’s worth noting that despite the excellent made-to-order quality and extensive curated beverage program, scheduling a visit requires some careful planning.
The restaurant operates on a restricted five-day schedule with a split-shift service, closing entirely for three hours between lunch and dinner.

Extremely well-prepared dishes, both delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The fish is fresh and not too fishy. A good place for a date night. Expect a mix of people dressed upscale and families in pajamas. Good cocktail and mocktail menu. This was our second visit and both were good. Reservations recommended.

4. Koi Kawa Japanese Restaurant

Website: http://www.koikawasushi.com/
Address: 4051 Broadway
Contact: 210-805-8111
Hours: Tue – Thu 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Fri 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Sat 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM; Sun 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Mon Closed
As a traditional family-owned establishment, Koi Kawa Japanese Restaurant focuses heavily on providing a warm, personal touch while serving authentic Japanese cuisine.
I stopped by last month for a quiet afternoon meal and loved how the patient, helpful staff guided me through their broad menu, which features vibrant sashimi platters and steaming, fragrant noodle bowls.
Their beautiful location near the Museum Reach provides a lovely backdrop that pairs perfectly with a post-dinner stroll. And enjoying a meal by the water adds a special touch to any dining experience — the perfect spot to arrange a surprise flower delivery for your date.
But while the huge menu variety and regular weekday happy hour deals are fantastic perks, weekend diners need to adjust their schedules. They don’t start serving until noon on Saturdays and Sundays, which forces early lunchers to wait.

5. Yozora Japanese Kissa Restaurant

Website: http://www.yozora.online/
Address: 22211W I-10 Access Rd #1111
Contact: 210-218-3925; [email protected]
Hours: Tue – Thu 4:30 PM – 10:30 PM; Fri – Sat 4:30 PM – 11:30 PM; Sun 12:00 PM – 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM; Mon Closed
Stepping into this unique venue feels completely different from a typical dining room. That’s because Yozora Japanese Kissa Restaurant operates as an innovative izakaya and listening bar hybrid.
Driven by Chef Grey H, the concept merges a trendy, relaxed lounge vibe with a deep appreciation for music, utilizing a rare, custom-built sound system to curate the auditory experience.
The menu matches the elevated atmosphere, featuring rich, beautifully marbled Wagyu sourced directly from Miyazaki, Japan, alongside a diverse selection of contemporary sharing plates.
Embracing the traditional kissa tea room aesthetic, the space guarantees intimate guest comfort and fantastic pairings from their premium beverage program.
But this highly specialized service concept is not for everyone.
Because the environment heavily emphasizes the curated musical soundscape, the atmosphere can be too loud and distracting for patrons who simply want a quiet, traditional dining experience focused entirely on table conversation.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s dinner date here. I highly suggest you check this place out if you’re looking for an upscale, but lowkey dinner. The food was delicious. We both opted in for three course meals, which were both incredible. I enjoyed the teriyaki mochi gnocchi. There is a great beer, sake, and wine selection as well. The service was incredible, we will be back!

Had amazing service with Jaime! Definitely recommend coming here for a nice meal with great service. Atmosphere is great! Only gave atmosphere 4 stars cause it was chilly, but the overall vibe, sound level of the music, and especially the exquisite flavors is an absolute win. The vibes are exactly where I want it to be – loungy and comfy. Come here with friends or for a date night, you’ll have a great time!!!!! 5 STAR!
