Get Your Sugar Fix at the 5 Best Dessert Shops in San Antonio

dessert-shops-in-san-antonio
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality and Freshness: I look for bakers who use good ingredients to get moist textures and balanced flavor. After all, stale or overly artificial sweets never make the cut.

Variety and Creativity: I also want a menu with a wide mix of classic favorites and exciting seasonal items. Because of that, unique flavor combos earn extra points for keeping repeat visits fun.

Presentation and Service: I also paid attention to friendly staff and careful packaging. A treat feels more special when delicate pastries are boxed up well for the trip home.

Pricing and Value: I weighed portion sizes against the price tag. The best spots keep things fair, so you get premium quality without paying a fortune.

Let’s face it, a craving for a decadent sugar fix can hit at any moment. Lucky for us, San Antonio is packed with talented bakers turning out gooey cookies and delicate pastries.

Tracking down a reliable dessert shop in San Antonio matters, since a craving or a weekend treat run can strike when you least expect it. So I spent real time hunting down the most satisfying sweets around town.

These spots cover everything from massive stuffed cookies to authentic international treats.

If you love the custom cake shops in San Antonio, you’ll feel right at home with these sweet spots too. Anyway, let’s dig into where to go when your day needs a little extra sweetness.

How much does a dessert shop cost in San Antonio?

At a dessert shop in San Antonio, sweet treats generally run from about $2.50 for a single pastry to around $75.00 for a whole artisan cake.

Item TypePrice Range
Individual Pastries$2.50 – $8.60
Cookies (Single)$2.00 – $4.00
Specialty Tarts & Slices$5.00 – $10.00
Whole Artisan Cakes$41.00 – $75.00
Large Cookie/Brownie Boxes$8.00 – $33.00

1. URBAN – Dessert Dealers

urban-dessert-dealers

Address: 19178 Blanco Road, #106

Contact: 210 251 2925

Hours: Daily, 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM

Craving something over-the-top usually points me toward URBAN – Dessert Dealers. The shop is known for bold sweets like large-format cookies and wildly creative chocolate builds.

Better still, you can order these treats online for fast pickup or local delivery. The dense menu leans into rich flavors that easily satisfy a big sugar craving.

I really like the variety of craft chocolates lined up at the counter. If you’re after classic tiered pastries, though, a dedicated cake shop is the better call.

One thing to keep in mind is that the kitchen handles major allergens like nuts and dairy on-site. Because of that, cross-contamination is a real risk for anyone with severe food allergies. So it’s worth asking a few questions first if allergies are a concern for you.

Pros

  • Wide variety of decadent cakes
  • Specialty craft chocolates
  • Quick online ordering system
  • Highly customizable creations

Cons

  • Not ideal for severe allergies due to high cross-contamination risk

Amazing dessert place

An amazing dessert place in a hidden spot of San Antonio! As soon as I saw that it had a reusable container as a cup, I just had to check it out! I had the Caramel Special along with the Strawberry Milkshake and both were absolutely delicious 🙌🏽

Ube cake and banana pudding

We were greeted immediately when entering. This dessert spot is mostly a kiosk ordering place except when you have a refillable container. The vibe is very urban but the most important part are the desserts! I got the ube cake and my wife got the banana pudding ball and my daughter got the coffee smoothie in the special refillable container. Everything was super tasty! All were well done!

2. ChurroStar

churrostar

Website: churrostar.com

Address: 13802 Embassy Row

Contact: 210 259 5510

Hours: Daily, 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Nothing hits the spot quite like warm cinnamon sugar crunching between your teeth. ChurroStar serves authentic, handmade dough pastries built on recipes passed down from third-generation makers.

When I stopped by their mobile cart last month, the fresh, piping-hot dough tasted wonderfully nostalgic. The team sticks to traditional methods rooted deeply in family history.

You can also grab specialized mini boxes that work perfectly for sharing with a group. Plus, they handle event catering and offer rich dipping sauces like Nutella or condensed milk.

The downside is that the menu concentrates almost entirely on fried dough treats. So if you want a wider pastry spread, the choices here run thin. You’ll need to look elsewhere for fruit tarts or delicate sponge cakes.

Pros

  • Authentic third-generation recipes
  • Specialized mini boxes
  • Fun event catering options
  • Multiple rich dipping sauces

Cons

  • Very limited pastry variety

Customer Reviews:

Simple yet delicious dessert

Churros here are always fresh, warm, crispy, and flavorful.  I’ve tried some of the other churros such as the churro relleno and drizzled churros, but always come back to the traditional churros.  There’s usually a few minute wait when you order, but it’s because they make them as they’re ordered.  It’s a simple, yet very delicious dessert that they get right every time.

Authentic churros

This place was really good! All the churros were so fresh and delicious. These photos are after eating because they were so good. There is some wait but it was really fast considering how much food we ordered. The service was friendly and I recommend this to anyone who wants authentic churros!

3. Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko

premium-matcha-cafe-maiko

Website: matchacafe-maiko.com

Address: 7115 Blanco Rd Ste 112

Contact: 210 267 1020

Hours: Daily, 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Finding true international flavors can feel like a tall order in Texas. Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko focuses on authentic Japanese green tea treats and soft serve, using ingredients sourced straight from Japan.

Because of that focus, the traditional flavor comes through clean and high quality across the menu. Their cold lineup includes specialty beverages alongside deeply earthy frozen treats.

Having multiple store locations also makes grabbing these green tea items really convenient. If you’re hunting for sugary, brightly colored gummies, though, a local candy store is the better bet.

One limitation is that there are no matcha cakes or baked pastries here at all. The menu sticks strictly to frozen desserts and chilled drinks. So you’ll need to skip this spot whenever a warm baked good is what you’re after.

Pros

  • Direct-sourced Japanese ingredients
  • Authentic green tea flavors
  • Specialty crafted iced beverages
  • Multiple convenient store locations

Cons

  • Strictly frozen dessert menu
  • No baked pastries available

Customer Reviews:

Great matcha selection and consistent quality

I’ve been to Matcha Cafe Maiko several times and always have a great experience. They offer a great variety of matcha dessert options and specialty drinks. Everything I’ve tried has been yummy and well made. It’s become one of my go-to spots whenever I’m in the area. The staff are friendly, and the quality is always consistent. I just hope they consider expanding and opening another location on the far NW side of San Antonio — it would be a welcome addition!

Truly Asian experience

This is a place that keeps it simple and clean with a great dessert menu. Plus some unusual cording choices and different drinks. A truly Asian experience. It has a cool little camera booth. A neat and different experience for the whole family.

4. Lily’s Cookies

Website: lilyscookies.com

Address: 2716 McCullough Ave

Contact: 210 832 0886 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM | Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Walking into a locally rooted bakery always brings a comforting sense of community. Lily’s Cookies specializes in hand-decorated, custom homestyle bakes that celebrate local culture and big occasions.

I actually ordered a batch of their San Antonio-themed cookies for a party recently, and the frosting details were stunning.

Beyond cookies, they turn out rich brownies and soft cupcakes too. You can even request giant sizes and cookie cakes for those extra-special weekend events.

On top of that, anyone avoiding gluten will be glad to find solid gluten-free options.

The catch is that getting your hands on these treats takes some careful schedule planning. They keep very limited weekend hours and stay closed on Sundays, so it’s smart to lock in party orders well before the weekend starts.

Pros

  • Custom hand-decorated designs
  • Extensive homestyle baked variety
  • Dietary-friendly gluten-free options
  • Large celebratory cookie cakes

Cons

  • Closed entirely on Sundays
  • Limited weekend store hours

5. Justin’s Ice Cream Co

justin-s-ice-cream-co

Website: justinsicecream.com

Address: 245 E Commerce Street (Riverwalk Level)

Contact: 210 222 2707 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM | Friday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM

Strolling along the water is the perfect excuse to hunt down a cooling treat. Justin’s Ice Cream Co runs as a local parlor focused mainly on frozen dairy and refreshing sorbet.

As a destination for locally made sweets, it delivers a genuinely traditional parlor experience. They offer a huge variety of flavors to cool you down on a hot afternoon.

The focus stays tightly on frozen specialties rather than baked goods or hot drinks. Grabbing a quick cone here adds a fun layer of nostalgia to a busy walking tour.

One catch is that the shop is tucked away on the Riverwalk level, so it’s easy to walk right past. Because of that, first-timers often stumble onto it by chance rather than planning ahead.

Still, that riverside surprise is half the charm once you find it.

Pros

  • Traditional ice cream parlor vibe
  • Wide variety of frozen flavors
  • Refreshing dairy and sorbet options
  • Locally produced sweet treats

Cons

  • Tucked-away Riverwalk-level spot

Customer Reviews:

Best dessert of the trip

The employees are kind and generous with portions. Best ice cream and gelato. The blue marshmallow was the best! I also had cookies and cream. I would come here again if I visit San Antonio. Best Dessert of the trip!

Hits the spot

I had a single scoop of mint chip and my husband had a single of the brownie. It was very creamy and the chocolate bits were good quality. It hit the spot and we happened upon it at the perfect time with no wait. I’d definitely go back. We enjoyed our ice cream cones while walking the Riverwalk.
