Sweet Tooth Heaven is at These 5 Best Chocolate Shops in San Antonio

chocolate-shops-in-san-antonio
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality and Freshness: I looked for shops using good cocoa and making their sweets in small batches. After all, that handmade touch is what gives each bite its rich, real flavor.

Variety and Options: I also checked whether each shop offered enough variety to match different cravings. Because of that, places with dark chocolate or hot cocoa blends earned extra points.

Ambiance and Experience: I also paid attention to how each store felt to walk into. A warm space with samples out makes finding new treats a lot more fun.

Pricing and Value: I weighed the cost of single items against the bigger gift sets. Fair pricing matters, since it's the clearest sign you're getting real worth for your money.

If you’re hunting for the best chocolate in San Antonio, your taste buds are in for a treat. The local artisan scene is full of rich, velvety sweets that melt right on the tongue.

I love wandering the small bakeries and boutique chocolatiers around town, mostly because there’s always a new flavor waiting to surprise me.

This pick of shops leans into handcrafted truffles and decadent fudge, and it sits alongside other sweet stops too.

So if you’re already eyeing custom cake shops or the local candy stores, you’ll feel right at home here. Anyway, grab a coffee, and let’s dig in.

How much does chocolate cost in San Antonio?

In San Antonio, the best chocolate can cost anywhere from about $1.50 for a single treat to over $100 for a premium gift set.

Artisan Chocolate Bar$5.00 – $15.00
Small Gift Box (4–9 pcs)$10.00 – $35.00

Address: 1203 N Loop 1604 W #117

Contact: 210 490 5333 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Thursday to Saturday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Walking in here feels like a treat if you have a sweet tooth. Alamo City Chocolate Factory makes fresh confections with plenty of playful options, from custom novelty molds to polished gift sets.

What makes the shop fun is how visual everything feels. The chocolate boots and detailed Texas boxes give the displays a local touch, so they work well when you need something more memorable than a basic box of candy.

On my last visit, I grabbed the signature sea salt caramels to try that sweet-and-savory mix. The flavor came through clearly, and the texture stayed smooth without feeling too heavy.

It also helps that they back purchases with a satisfaction guarantee.

The trade-off is that the big lineup of solid novelty shapes pulls attention away from true bean-to-bar tasting. In other words, the shop leans more toward fun designs than rare cocoa profiles.

Pros

  • Complete satisfaction guarantee for confections
  • Custom-molded designs like cowboy boots
  • Wide variety of specialized truffle flavors
  • Handcrafted locally to ensure freshness

Cons

  • Focus is heavily on solid novelty shapes

Best place to get chocolate

Alamo City Chocolate Factory is the best place to get your chocolate especially the dark chocolate (which is my favorite) every year my husband gets me chocolate from here for my birthday, valentine, and just sometimes just because. This time was for my birthday. He got me the chocolate strawberries 🍓 and the box of assorted. The owners are so nice. You can tell they have passion and love for this place. Keep being awesome! Thank you for always making my special occasions special

Amazing chocolate

This place does not disappoint! I attended a tour today, met the owners, and learned a lot about chocolate and how their product is produced. The owners are knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely nice folks. The chocolate is amazing! My preference is dark chocolate and theirs is absolutely delicious. Definitely check this place out for gifts, special occasions, or just as a reward for yourself.

2. Chocolatl

chocolatl

Website: chefalessb.com

Address: 18720 Stone Oak Pkwy Ste 105

Contact: 210 802 7430 | [email protected]

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Chocolatl makes artisan sweets feel more approachable by turning dessert-making into a hands-on class. Instead of just buying something pretty from a case, you get to see how much skill goes into each step.

Pastry chef Alessia Benavides leads the sessions, so the lessons feel guided without being intimidating. I always appreciate a place that lets you actually work with the ingredients, and here, you’re not just watching from the side.

The classes are interactive, with guests learning how to make treats like soft pretzels or warm baked donuts.

Another nice touch is their homeschool programming, which brings real food education into the school day.

The downside is that the focus on scheduled classes leaves less ready-made stock for walk-in shoppers. So if you’re hoping to grab a quick box of glossy bonbons, it’s better to plan ahead.

Pros

  • Interactive culinary and baking sessions
  • Instruction for artisanal baked goods
  • Dedicated daytime homeschool programs
  • Serves as a family-friendly community space

Cons

  • Primary focus heavily leans on workshops

Best chocolates in San Antonio

The BEST chocolates in San Antonio!! The service is exceptional. I was warmly welcomed. I wish I remembered the lady’s name, she was patient and explained how they make their chocolates. The Healthy dark chocolate is sumptuous. I highly recommend it. Their chocolates, aside from being delicious, are beautiful.

It’s not easy to find new and interesting flavors made well, but this shop has done both, and each truffle/bon bon we bought was a masterpiece!!! I seriously love chocolate and next time I am in San Antonio I will be stopping here again!

3. Casa Chocolates

Website: casachocolates.com

Address: 555 W Bitters Rd, Ste 127

Contact: 210 570 2225

Hours: Thursday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Casa Chocolates is a great pick when you want pure cocoa flavor instead of overly sweet candy. That focus makes sense because the team makes small-batch, bean-to-bar chocolate and keeps close control over the process from start to finish.

I recently tried their Mexican hot chocolate bar, and the warm spices danced right across my palate. The rich single-origin notes from Peru and Uganda give each bite a nuanced, layered taste.

On top of that, they pitch in on community efforts, like charity fiesta medal sales that give back locally.

One limitation is that the focus on classic chocolate bars means fewer truffles or soft fudge on hand. So if you want a wide spread of chewy sweets, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Still, for a clean, satisfying snap, there’s plenty here to love.

Pros

  • Authentic bean-to-bar craft chocolate maker
  • Unique Mexican hot chocolate specialty blend
  • Premium single-origin cocoa from Peru and Uganda
  • Active contributions to community initiatives

Cons

  • Limited availability of varied confections

Chocolate heaven found!

Walked into Casa Chocolate and immediately got smacked in the face (in the best way) with the smell of fresh, dreamy chocolate. This isn’t your average candy shop—these folks make their chocolate from scratch, starting with actual cacao beans. The owner gave us the sweetest little crash course on how it’s all made, then let us taste it… and wow. Smooth, rich, and totally addictive. We’re already plotting our next visit. 10/10 recommend if you love chocolate and want to feel a little fancy while snacking!

Absolutely amazing

This place is absolutely amazing. Not only do they have the best chocolate I’ve ever tasted but the owners are so friendly and patient with their explanations of how they make the chocolate bars. They took their time and explained how the process works and how even the slightest variations can alter the taste completely, such as roasting the cocoa beans a minute shorter or longer. Incredible experience. I highly recommend for any chocolate lovers. We will be back!

4. Délice Chocolatier & Patisserie

d-lice-chocolatier-patisserie

Website: delicechocolatier.com

Address: 946 N Loop 1604 W, Canyon Creek Suite #145

Contact: 210 545 2200

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Stepping into a shop that smells like buttery dough and roasting cocoa is hard to beat. That warm first impression fits Délice Chocolatier & Patisserie, where fine chocolates sit beside European-style pastries in a family-run space.

Because the menu covers both chocolate and baked treats, it works well for different kinds of sweet cravings.

I’m especially drawn to their custom chocolate arrangements, since they can turn a dessert table into something more polished for weddings or larger events. The French-style pastries add that same refined touch without making the shop feel stiff.

The staff’s warmth helps too, and the option for curbside or in-store pickup keeps orders easy.

The downside is the weekend schedule. Since they close on Sunday, busy professionals may need to plan ahead before grabbing a last-minute dessert box.

Pros

  • Comprehensive selection of baked goods
  • Customized chocolate arrangements for events
  • Specialized French-style delicacies and macarons
  • Dedicated curbside and in-store service options

Cons

  • Store operations close on Sunday

Holiday s’mores

I absolutely love délice for birthday cakes! The design is always beautiful, and the flavors are even more magical. I tried one of their holiday s’mores today, and it was incredible! Not only was the chocolate the delicious chocolate you can expect from délice, but the marshmallow was a heavenly pillow that was truly a delight. The cookie was crisp and buttery, perfectly rounding out the decadent experience.

Dubai chocolate bar

I just found this gem, and I’m so glad I did. Their chocolates are fantastic. They also make the viral Dubai chocolate bar, so I was able to try it for the first time. I could definitely eat one every day. If you’re in the mood for chocolate, go here!! They also sell pastries. I’m hoping to try those the next time I go in.

5. Kilwins Ice Cream – Chocolate – Fudge

kilwins-ice-cream-chocolate-fudge

Website: kilwins.com

Address: 109 Alamo Plaza

Contact: 210 507 2100

Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM | Friday to Saturday, 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM

Nostalgia hits the second you step into this bright sweets parlor. That old-fashioned feeling fits Kilwins, where traditional chocolates and caramel treats are made from heritage recipes in a classic candy-shop setting.

The smell of melting sugar adds to the experience right away. I find it mesmerizing to stand at the counter and watch the team build caramel apples or cut thick fudge slabs by hand.

That handmade touch makes the visit feel more personal, even before you choose a box to take home.

The proprietary heritage blend gives the treats a comforting flavor, while seasonal picks like the Dubai chocolate collection keep the menu from feeling too predictable.

One limitation is that the national franchise model means the core recipes are standardized. So if you want hyper-local flavors from an independent maker, this may not be the best match.

Pros

  • Traditional Mackinac Island fudge and caramels
  • In-store preparation allows visual observation
  • Proprietary heritage chocolate blend
  • Distinct seasonal and specialty offerings

Cons

  • Lacks hyper-local or independently crafted flavors

Customer Reviews:

Dubai-style chocolate

Highly recommend the chocolate ice cream! They’re big, rich, flavorful, and surprisingly didn’t melt much even by the time I finished them. The Dubai-style chocolate is also a must-try, aromatic nuts, perfectly crispy! A reason to love chocolate with pistachio. Loved it!
