  • Flavor Profile and Freshness: We looked for bakeries that prioritize high-quality ingredients and bake fresh daily, ensuring the taste is just as impressive as the visual presentation.
  •
  • Design and Artistry: We evaluated the skill level involved in decorating, from smooth buttercream finishes to complex fondant sculptures that can bring a customer's specific vision to life.
  •
  • Customer Service and Reliability: We considered how easy it is to communicate with the bakery, their responsiveness to inquiries, and their track record for having orders ready on time.
  •
  • Menu Variety: We checked for a diverse selection of flavors and dietary options, ensuring there is a match for every palate, including gluten-free or specific allergy-friendly choices.
  •
  • Value for Money: We assessed whether the pricing felt justified by the portion sizes, quality of ingredients, and the overall experience provided by the shop.

San Antonio loves a celebration, and frankly, no party is complete without a stunning centerpiece that tastes as good as it looks.

I’ve spent years exploring the city’s sugar scene, sampling everything from towering wedding tiers to simple cupcakes.

Planning a massive quinceañera requires different logistics than grabbing a Tuesday pick-me-up, but finding the right bakery matters for both. That’s why I’ve narrowed down the spots that consistently deliver on flavor and design.

Here are the places I trust when I need the absolute best cake shop in San Antonio to make an event memorable.

How much does a cake cost in San Antonio?

Budgeting for sweets in this city depends on your specific vision and the scale of your event. If you are just swinging by for a quick treat, like a cupcake or a mini cake, you are usually looking at spending just a few dollars per item.

However, standard six or eight-inch round cakes for a birthday or family dinner often sit in the mid-range bracket, typically between $45 and $60. Once you start dreaming up custom themes, multi-tiered wedding marvels, or requesting premium ingredients, the price naturally climbs, often starting over $100.

Intricate designs and specialty flavors require significantly more time and skill, so the financial investment reflects that level of artistry.

1. Oh Yeah Cakes

oh-yeah-cakes

Website: https://www.ohyeahcakes.com/
Address: 713 S St Mary’s St
Contact: +1 210-362-4917
Hours: Tue – Sat: 11 AM – 6 PM

Oh Yeah Cakes stands out immediately because of their incredible daily variety. They rotate through 13 flavors every single day, including a “cupcake of the month” that keeps things exciting.

As a family-owned business operating since 2013, they greet you with a warmth that makes the shop feel like a family kitchen. I stopped by recently to try their Brownie Molten Cake, and it completely satisfied my chocolate cravings.

What I really appreciate is their flexibility. They can turn almost any picture or drawing into a custom edible reality.

However, you need to be organized if you want something specific. Their custom orders require a notice period of 4 to 6 weeks, which can be tough if you are a last-minute planner like me.

But for the freshness and that distinct homemade feel, the wait is worth it.

Pros

  • Runs 13 flavors daily
  • Specializes in custom designs
  • Family-owned since 2013
  • Online ordering for delivery

Cons

  • Custom orders need 4-6 weeks notice

They were so moist and yummy!

What a cute little shop with excellent prices! I was pleasantly surprised to see they had gluten free options even in a separate case which makes my mind rest easy as I am allergic. They were so moist and yummy! I would also like to mention, they have 8inch cakes starting at $40 which these days is amazing. I will definitely be back based on taste and also to order my next event cake!

The design, flavor, and texture of everything was incredible

We had Lori at Oh Yeah Cakes make a gluten-free cake, and 10 dozen gluten-free cupcakes for our wedding last weekend. The design, flavor, and texture of everything was incredible. Guests were shocked to hear that it was all gluten-free! We had the carrot cake, maple bacon french toast, tiramisu, blueberry lemon, and strawberry champagne. We are so grateful for Lori and her staff for adding such wonderful treats to our special day!!

2. Cosmic Cakery

Website: http://www.cosmiccakery.com/
Address: 150 W Olmos Dr, San Antonio
Contact: +1 210-387-2305
Hours: Mon – Sat: 10 AM – 2 PM

Cosmic Cakery treats baking as high art. The head cake artist uses the pastry bag like a paintbrush, drawing design inspiration from nature, fine art, and current fashion trends.

Their “Edible Art” philosophy is visible in the minute details of their sculpted cakes. I was particularly impressed by their Red Velvet Cake, which tasted as rich as it looked.

They are incredibly meticulous about quality, cracking eggs one at a time to ensure perfection. You can taste the owner’s focus on detail in their unique “Atomic Pops” and custom toppers.

The only downside is the ordering process. You can’t just click and buy online, but you have to email or call to place an order, which adds a bit of friction if you prefer digital convenience.

Pros

  • Unique “Edible Art” approach
  • Meticulous ingredient prep
  • Owner-created recipes
  • Custom character pops available

Cons

  • Manual order placement

I got my husband’s bday cake from there and it was amazing!

I got my husband’s bday cake from there and it was amazing! I ordered a week ago and told them I will be traveling with the cake and my specific vision and they made it happen. I wanted a galaxy stary cake and it turned out amazing! It tasted even better and it was good in fridge for 5days! 10/10

Everything was a hit.

Cosmic Cakery baked a lovely gender reveal cake for my daughter and son-in-law. They were so helpful when we were choosing a design. The bottom cake was vanilla dyed ombré blue and the top cake was chocolate. Several guests commented on how good the cake was. We also got vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles. Everything was a hit. I will definitely use Cosmic Cakery again!

Hours

  • Mon – Fri: 10 AM – 5 PM
  • Sat: 9 AM – 2 PM

Betty Jane’s Bakeshoppe brings a wonderful sense of history to the table. It is a mother-daughter operation that uses recipes passed down for three generations, and you can taste that heritage in every bite.

They have a strict “real ingredients” policy, using only scratch-made elements like pure vanilla and fresh butter. I tried their Almond Buttercream recently, and it strikes a delicate balance that avoids being overly sugary.

Their experience is vast, having designed thousands of wedding cakes, which speaks to their reliability.

However, their schedule is a bit restrictive. They are closed on both Sundays and Mondays, which can be tricky if you have a weekend event and need a last-minute pickup on the day itself.

Pros

  • 3rd generation family recipes
  • No preservatives used
  • Huge wedding portfolio
  • Free tasting sessions

Cons

  • Closed Sundays and Mondays

Pleased with the overall experience

The cake looked even better than my inspo pic! And everyone raved how good it was! I was very pleased with the overall experience from beginning to end. Will return in the future. Highly recommend!

The cake was delicious

The cake was delicious. Especially the almond with custard. Their buttercream has the perfect level of sweetness. And just look at my cake! Someone at my wedding said it looked like a piece of art and they felt bad eating it. They are easy to work with as well.

4. SusieCakes

Website: https://susiecakes.com/
Address: 7322 Jones Maltsberger Rd #218
Contact: +1 726-822-2253
Hours

  • Mon – Sat: 11 AM – 8 PM;
  • Sun: 11 AM – 7 PM

SusieCakes feels like a tribute to the past, using recipes recorded on handwritten cards from the founder’s two grandmothers.

They bake without preservatives, utilizing “old-fashioned pantry” ingredients like slow-churned butter to create a superior texture.

I picked up a Fresh Blueberry Lemon Cake for a gathering, and the brightness of the fruit flavor was fantastic.

They also have a cool rewards program called “Susie Favors,” which is great if you order frequently.

I also love that they offer a direct feedback line to the founder, proving they value customer satisfaction.

A slight drawback is their geographical limitation regarding their full menu. Their specific local pickup and delivery menus are only available in a few locations, so you can’t easily gift their full range to friends outside these regions.

Pros

  • No preservatives
  • Baked fresh daily on-site
  • Rewards program available
  • National shipping options

Cons

  • Limited state availability

Customer Reviews

The cake tasted great!

I ordered a 6in red velvet for my husband’s birthday, and it was perfect! Pricing is fair, scheduled pickup was so easy, and the staff that helped me was very knowledgeable and kind. Also, cake tasted great! I served 10 people and had leftovers!

Generous portions and well packaged!

Maya was absolutely nothing short of spectacular, she took time to treat my extremely enthusiastic 6 year old like a princess and it really made her day. Cakes and cupcakes are amazing as well! Generous portions and well packaged!

5. Ribbon Cake

Hours: Mon – Sun: 9 AM – 8 PM

Red Ribbon Bakeshop brings premier Filipino flavors to San Antonio.

Real Philippine mangoes define their menu, and their Mango Supreme Cake is perfection if you want something light and fruity. It is a nice change of pace from heavier, buttercream-laden options.

You can also grab savory items like Chicken Empanadas while you are there, allowing you to handle dinner and dessert in a single trip.

The location near SeaWorld is super convenient, and they are open seven days a week.

The only real limitation I can see is their fixed closing time. They shut the doors at 8 PM every day, so you can’t rely on them for late-night dessert emergencies.

Pros

  • Unique Filipino flavors
  • Savory and sweet menu
  • Open 7 days a week
  • Mobile app ordering

Cons

  • Closes at 8 PM daily

Customer Reviews

Friendly staff, good service, clean interior.

I tried their arroz caldo, and I found it to be quite comforting, especially during these cold days. The chicken empanada was also very delicious and light. I also tried both the mango supreme and the tiramisu, and I must say, I enjoyed both desserts. Friendly staff, good service. Clean interior. I wish they had more variety in savory items. Highly recommended!

I’m so glad they finally opened a shop here in San Antonio.

I recently got the chance to visit Red Ribbon even though they’ve been here for several months already. I bought the Ube Overload cake, palabok, and some empanadas. I loved them. I’m so glad they finally opened a shop here in San Antonio.
