Address: 2106 NW Military Hwy, Suite A

Contact: (210) 802-7931

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 3:30 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

San Antonio Ballet School uses the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum to provide a safe and professional experience for students. A Master Teacher guides the technical training to ensure quality across all levels.

I love that the studio is very inclusive. They offer great open classes for adults and financial aid to make ballet more accessible to local families.

When I brought my niece for a trial lesson, I noticed right away that they value character building as much as dance.

But while the teaching is excellent, the performance company is only open to those who pass an audition. The main program may also feel too traditional and limited if you’re looking for modern competition dance instruction.

Pros

  • Holistic student development approach
  • Need-based financial assistance programs
  • Diverse professional stage opportunities
  • Flexible open division for adults

Cons

  • Mandatory audition for the performance wing
  • Narrow classical ballet curriculum

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM (September – May)
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (September – May)
  • Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (June – August)

Dance Center of San Antonio ranks in the top 5% of American ballet institutions. It’s an official partner for Nikolay and is recognized on international stages like the Vaganova Prix.

The world-class instruction is led by a decorated director who offers an academic program that helps students balance school with studio hours.

This place is a powerhouse for serious athletes. They have exceptional sprung floors to keep dancers safe and guarantee a good dancing experience. They even offer a tuition-free program for boys.

Since the flagship programs are very selective, however, you can’t simply sign up without passing a formal audition.

This high-intensity environment is also geared toward professional careers, so the atmosphere might feel too demanding if you’re just looking for low-pressure dance classes

Pros

  • Award-winning faculty instruction
  • State-of-the-art sprung flooring
  • Integrated academic support program
  • Tuition-free training for boys

Cons

  • Highly selective audition process

Customer Reviews:

We are so happy we found this place
Our daughter has been in dance a while and really wanted to focus on Ballet. Without a doubt, DCSA is proving to be a premier ballet training center. We “didn’t know what we didn’t know” until we found this place. Mrs. Bessler is truly “leaps and bounds” above the other schools we’ve trained at. There are sport and hobbie dance centers, then there are Professional Ballet Training centers like DCSA. We are so happy we found this place. Don’t take our word for it, check out their rankings within the US and placements of dancers into Professional companies worldwide.

Very supportive community
I’m a student at DCSA and I had taken classes in many studios before I came to this studio , but this one is definitely the best! It teaches discipline and the correct technique. I’ve improved so much taking classes here. My teacher, Mrs. Vanessa Bessler is a great person who cares a lot about the students and helps us improve. I am very grateful for how much she has helped me. She also encourages everyone to be friendly with each other, and it makes this studio a very supportive community.

3. The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas

Website: http://balletconservatory.org/

Address: 5200 Broadway

Contact: (210) 820-3400 | [email protected]

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to professional dance education. The expert faculty consists of former professional dancers who focus on proper physical alignment.

They offer a unique dual-track experience for their students, allowing them to audition for the official company wing to help bridge the gap into the professional world.

And we love that they frequently use live piano music in class to enhance the experience.

While the personalized attention in small classes is wonderful, the studio does have a strict attendance policy. If a student misses a class, they have to complete a make-up session quickly.

Families are also required to follow a rigid dress code that requires specific brands for leotards and shoes.

If you still proceed to enroll here, remember to budget for mandatory production fees for major theater shows on top of regular tuition.

Pros

  • Expert former professional faculty
  • Small class sizes for individualized attention
  • Authentic theater performance standards
  • Live piano accompaniment in class

Cons

  • Rigid attendance and make-up policies
  • Strict brand-specific dress code
  • Mandatory theater production fees

I love the ballet conservatory of South Texas!
I love the ballet conservatory of South Texas! Their teachers and their performances are second to none in the San Antonio area! Would recommend to anyone interested in having any of their children learn ballet!

Encouraging, and supportive
My daughter loves every minute of her time at The Ballet Conservatory. She has experienced dramatic growth in ballet technique, as well as character development and the building of strong relationships with her peers & the staff. The Ballet Conservatory is encouraging, supportive and focused on the whole dancer. I am thankful this is the kind environment where she spends most of her time away from home and school.

4. Ballet Arts School

Address: 2103 Lockhill Selma Rd

Contact: (210) 344-9428 | [email protected]

Hours:

  • Monday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Tuesday: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM | 4:00 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Thursday: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM | 4:00 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Friday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 3:30 PM– 9:30 PM
  • Saturday: 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Ballet Arts School has established a five-decade local legacy, meaning it has successfully trained generations of dancers in our community. In fact, it serves as the direct training ground for the Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre.

They focus on a purely classical and non-competitive approach. One parent I spoke with praised the expert faculty for using their traditional curriculum to build self-discipline and emotional growth in children.

However, their focus on classical mastery comes with very strict rules. There are specific physical and age requirements for students who want to start pointe work.

Plus, all students have to wear traditional black leotards and pink tights with no room for personal style.

Dancers aged eight and older also have to commit to at least two weekly sessions. This requirement might be difficult to manage if your family has a very busy extracurricular schedule.

Pros

  • Comprehensive classes for all life stages
  • Dedicated ballet program for boys
  • Holistic emotional and physical development
  • Authentic non-competitive performance events

Cons

  • Strict age prerequisites for pointe work
  • Rigid traditional dress code requirements
  • Mandatory minimum weekly class frequency

Customer Reviews:

I had such a wonderful experience
I absolutely adore Ms. Judy’s Wednesday night adult ballet class! I had such a wonderful experience. Her attention to detail and love for teaching truly shine through. She had a lot of patience and insight for me being a beginner, and I felt so comfortable here. I learned so much in just my first class with her and I can’t wait to continue coming back!

I enjoy taking the adult beginner ballet class
I enjoy taking the adult beginner ballet class with Ms. Judith. The stretching and core exercises make such a difference in how I feel physically and mentally. Each class, she builds upon basic skills and we’re constantly learning new ballet moves. My twin three year old’s are in the Saturday morning class. Ms. Judith is so patient and very experienced in working with children. They look forward to ballet class every Saturday. I highly recommend Ballet Arts School.

Hours:

  • Tuesday: 5:45 – 9:00 PM
  • Wednesday – Friday: 5:45 – 8:30 PM
  • Saturday: 9:45 AM – 4:30 PM

SMASH Dance Fitness operates on a wonderful model called Dance for a Cause. They partner with local non-profits to raise awareness through their various programs.

It’s a fantastic and welcoming place for those who want to stay active while giving back to the community.

If you enjoy creative hobbies like taking pottery classes, you’ll likely appreciate the broad selection of beginner courses here.

The studio combines high-energy fitness with traditional performance arts, which creates a dynamic environment for both adults and children.

While they offer a great foundation for little ones, the ballet track is limited to a combined class for ages 3 to 7. Older children and adults who want advanced classical training will quickly outgrow this specific curriculum.

The overall atmosphere is also heavily geared toward social ballroom and fitness instead of a professional conservatory.

Pros

  • Excellent foundation building for kids
  • Broad variety of discipline styles
  • Strong charitable community impact
  • Frequent new student discount incentives

Cons

  • Limited advanced progression for ballet
  • Lacks traditional conservatory technicalities

Customer Reviews:

They are so patient with the kids
My daughter has been in the tiny ballet program for the last year. She loves it and they are so patient with the kids and make it about having fun, which is what I was looking for in a class for her.
