Navigating a pet’s senior years requires a veterinary team equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools.

Animal Hospital of San Antonio leverages advanced digital X-rays alongside innovative Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments to drastically improve post-surgical healing.

Their dedicated staff focuses on holistic geriatric and hospice care to ensure older companions remain comfortable during their golden years.

When my golden retriever developed severe osteoarthritis, a friend highly recommended their laser therapy program, and it made a world of difference for his mobility.

Plus, having access to their fully stocked on-site pharmacy makes managing those daily medications incredibly convenient.

I’m just quite iffy that they’re closed on Sundays and run shortened hours on Saturdays despite being a hospital. You’ll need a backup plan for emergencies.

Pros

  • Fully stocked on-site pharmacy
  • Rapid in-house laboratory testing
  • Clean and positive clinic environment
  • Compassionate client education

Cons

  • Limited weekend availability
  • Shortened Saturday operational hours

Their facility utilizes human-grade technology, including a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine and a 16-slice CT scanner.

Customer Reviews

Our Bentley was reaching the end of his journey. After hoping he’d make a comeback, we had to face the hard truth that he wasn’t. The entire staff at Mission were amazing. I wish I had been more focused and noticed names but it was an overwhelming night. It felt as if they held our hands through the entire experience. The sweet kindness they showed us will be something I remember always. Thank you to everyone who helped us that night. We truly appreciate you all.

They were amazing with our Maggie Mae! They got her fixed back up and we were able to take her home in about 2 hours time. If anything happens to any of our 3 Boston Terriers in the future and needs an emergency vet,..you can bet this is where we’ll be going!! Thanks again y’all

Website: https://veterinariansanantoniotx.com/

Address: 10350 Bandera Road

Contact: (210) 796-1027; (210) 794-6904; [email protected]

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM – Midnight; Sat 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Sun 10:00 AM – Midnight

Operating as a hybrid facility, Town & Country Veterinary Hospital stays open until midnight most evenings. With this, they bridge the gap between traditional family vets and highly valued emergency rooms.

I love how they even employ integrative specialists certified in veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments to blend Western medicine with holistic healing.

One time, I had to rush my cat here after she swallowed a toy as we were about to go to bed, and the staff’s calm triage process instantly lowered my panic.

Another great thing here is that they have simplified long-term health tracking. In particular, they consolidate all your pet’s annual shot records and urgent care history into a single database, making necessary data easily accessible.

Just be prepared to pay a higher base consultation fee if you arrive for an unscheduled urgent issue rather than a standard appointment.

Pros

  • Convenient late-night access
  • Broad soft-tissue surgical capabilities
  • Calm and compassionate emergency staff
  • Consolidated long-term medical records

Cons

  • Triage-based lobby wait times
  • Higher base emergency consultation fees

Customer Reviews

These guys saved my cat’s life. I was able to walk in with my boy, he was lethargic due to a pee blockage. They immediately took over and showed me that they truly cared about my pet. They also recommended me to transfer my cat to a 24/7 ER and I did. . They handled the referral for me and I only had to transport my boy later that day. Fast forward the weekend he is back home thriving!! God bless you all.

I brought my 2 Basset Hounds in as emergency patients for a severe allergic reaction. Although the wait was long, it was well worth it because of the care they (and we) experienced from Tatiana and Dr. Cade. What an awesome team of caring, compassionate caregivers. We appreciated it so much that we’re making this our primary pet care clinic. Wish we could give them 10 stars.

4. VCA Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort

Address: 6515 I-10

Contact: Tel: 1-310-571-6500; Toll Free: 1-800-966-1822

Schedule: Available 24/7

Entrusting your furry companion to a boarding facility becomes much easier when an elite medical team is stationed right down the hall.

Available 24/7, VCA Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort beautifully integrates luxury doggie daycare with comprehensive emergency services.

I was impressed to find out that they were founded in 1968. It’s no surprise that their decades of local heritage have access to a nationwide medical network, making them perfect for traveling families.

Their prestigious American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation also proves their voluntary commitment to the strictest safety standards in the industry.

If you regularly schedule dog grooming services or need special therapeutic diets delivered directly to your porch, their comprehensive on-site offerings are fantastic.

Unfortunately, their triage-based system often causes significant lobby wait times for minor ailments if severe trauma cases suddenly arrive.

Pros

  • Strict AAHA safety accreditation
  • No-appointment emergency walk-ins
  • Comprehensive on-site diagnostic suite
  • Convenient home delivery for prescriptions

Cons

  • Unpredictable lobby wait times
  • Corporate medical pricing structure

Customer Reviews

To the wonderful angel staff who cared for my baby, thank you! We had a wonderful experience. We were so terrified when our puppy got sick but the staff reassured us that she would be okay. They were calm, caring and communicated every step of the way. This team truly is incredible and we are so thankful!

I’ve used VCA for emergency feline care, and routine diagnostics for my dog. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Dr. Schwartz is very forthright and compassionate when it comes to explaining the pros and cons of any given plan of care. Crystal at the front desk has been especially kind and helpful on a number of occasions. The hospital will work with you if payment is an issue.

5. Animal Emergency Room

animal-emergency-room

Website: http://www.animaler.net/

Address: 4315 Fredericksburg Road

Contact: (210) 737-7380

Schedule: Open Monday – Friday 6 PM – 7 AM; 24 Hours on Weekends & Holidays

The best thing about Animal Emergency Room is that they serve as a dedicated safety net, with their strict focus on urgent trauma cases. That said, you can’t come here for routine wellness exams.

Showing up without calling ahead is completely acceptable here, which removes a massive hurdle during a terrifying midnight health scare.

Notably, their specialized facility features an ICU alongside high-flow oxygen therapy equipment to immediately stabilize critically injured pets.

Plus, their staff seamlessly transfers stabilized patients and detailed medical records back to your primary doctor for continued healing.

Do note that because they strictly handle high-stakes trauma, their baseline walk-in fees are noticeably steeper than those charged at a standard daytime practice.

Pros

  • Immediate life-threatening triage
  • No appointments necessary
  • Rapid in-house digital diagnostics
  • High-stress emergency expertise

Cons

  • Premium emergency baseline pricing
  • Longer waits for minor urgent issues

I want to give our utmost gratitude to the Animal Emergency Room, especially thanks to Allison (front desk) who saw we were upset as we walked in with our Groot, our pittie. He was extremely ill and we were afraid we were losing him. Then our thanks to Dr Botros and his Tech Elizabeth. Really everyone was excellent and they not only treated him medically but they showered him with love. We cannot thank you all enough. I will always recommend you for Emergencies .
